Butter Lane Cupcakes

Butter Lane Cupcakes NYC

Happy New Year!! I hope you guys had a wonderful holiday. Kev and I’ve got one more quiet day at home together before he has to go back to work tomorrow. It has been a truly wonderful Christmas, I absolutely love this time of year.

Butter Lane Cupcakes NYC

I took these photos last month when Kev and I were in New York for my birthday. We stopped by Butter Lane Cupcakes in the East Village. I don’t know about you guys, but the diet starts today!! But for now, we can just look, right? :)

Butter Lane Cupcakes NYC

Oh my, here are a few of the beauties we sampled. Heaven help me.

I absolutely LOVED this about Butter Lane: You can create your own cupcake! Choose from three different cupcake bases and a plethora of frostings and pair them up any way you like. They’ll build you a custom cupcake right on the spot.

They have tons of delicious frostings from which to choose. So hard to pick! I am really wishing we had gotten a cinnamon honey one right now!

For my custom cupcake, I had to go with the vanilla cupcake with french vanilla buttercream. Loved, of course.

I couldn’t resist these two. Here we have a chocolate cupcake with maple pecan frosting and a vanilla cupcake with chocolate and caramel sea salt frosting. So good. I loved all of their decadent combos.

How fun is this cupcake?? This is a chocolate cupcake with a vanilla bean caramel corn frosting. Such a perfect union.

So soft and chocolaty.

And finally, here’s our banana cupcake with peanut butter frosting and a mini marshmallow garnish.

I die. I am seriously in the mood for one of these bad boys right now.

By the way, what did you get for Christmas?? I always love hearing about presents! :) Talk soon, sweet friends!

Plan Your Perfect Weekend in Albuquerque

Okay, this is the last of the Albuquerque posts, promise! :) Kev and I had such a wonderful, relaxing weekend here though, that I wanted to share this last post highlighting just a few more of our favorite things we did in case you’ve been inspired to check out this fabulous little town, too. These are some definite must-sees if you’re ever anywhere near the area.

Of course the very first thing we did was ride the Sandia Peak Tram! Remember the Sandia mountains that turn bright pink at sunset? You can take the world’s longest tramway up to the top of the peak for a fantastic view of the mountains and city below.

Here’s a glimpse of our view on the tram, the mountains were gorgeous all covered in the December snow.

We made it to the top! It was completely COVERED in snow!

Oh my gosh, can you believe this view??

There was a little ski area at the top that opens when the mountain gets enough snow, I would have LOVED to take a couple of runs here! I don’t think Kev could’ve stopped me if I’d been dressed for it. :)

Okay, let’s talk food. If you are looking for some seriously delicious New Mexican style pizza, you’ve got to check out Golden Crown Panaderia. This is how New Mexico does pizza. Not only does this little bakery have fabulous, thick, chewy pizza loaded with toppings, but they give every customer who walks in the door a biscochito, the official state cookie of New Mexico. How can you not love that?? :) Choose from delicious crusts like blue corn, green chile, or whole wheat peasant. Whatever you decide, be sure to get green chiles on your pizza! Yum!

On Saturday morning I was thrilled to get the chance to met up with my friend and fellow blogger Katie from Good Life Eats and her sweet family! We had brunch at the Flying Star Cafe, and my gosh you guys — this brunch was amazing! I had the Fabulous French Toast, and I am so sorry to say I snarfed it down before snapping a picture. But I loved every single bite, it definitely ranks up there with some of my favorite french toast. They had a fabulous looking bakery case as well, so you know we had to check that out after breakfast. Pictured here is the Rio Grande Mud Pie with a supremely fudgy browie layer topped with buttery caramel and whipped cream. I have to say, that fudgy brownie layer was pretty life changing, I’ve never had anything so gooey and chocolaty. Make it your mission to try this fantastic pie as soon as possible.

After brunch Katie and I had to check out the Albuquerque cupcake scene! Everywhere had such cute cupcakes all decked out for Christmas. These cuties are from Cake Fetish.

On our last day in Albuquerque we made our way to the Petroglyph National Monument and hiked the short Mesa Point Trail at Boca Negra Canyon. The trail was quite interesting and filled with complex images carved by early Pueblo and Spanish settlers in the area. We enjoyed this short little hike and pointing out all the petroglyphs.

At the top of the trail was another beautiful view of the city and the Sandia Mountains. This would have made for a gorgeous spot to watch the sun set as well, I am definitely coming back here next time!

The St. James Tea Room

The St James Tea Room | Albuquerque, New Mexico

Hands down, The St James Tea Room was the absolute highlight of our trip to Albuquerque. Oh my gosh, I cannot tell you how utterly fabulous this place was. I positively loved every single thing about it. We came here for a traditional English afternoon tea experience — how fun is that? — complete with tea sandwiches, scones, and strawberry shortcakes. What we got was a luxurious, secluded, 2-hour escape from the world, with an unforgettable meal and a life-changing tea I will never forget.

Here is the entrance when we first walked in. The tea room was beautifully decked out in English country decor, but I loved how the entrance had a little New Mexican flare as well.

I had no idea what to expect of our tea, but I was really excited to find out. I had just finished reading a couple of light murder mystery novels set in 1860s London where the main characters sat down for tea every afternoon. Some of the descriptions in the book had my mouth watering! I was delighted to see several of the wonderful things I’d read about on our menu. Our tea made it all come to life.

The tea room was all dressed up for Christmas. I loved this tree decorated with top hats! It perfectly set the mood.

The St James Tea Room | Albuquerque, New Mexico

Can you believe this was our room for tea?? You could’ve knocked me over with a feather, I was so giddy at this room. All small parties at the St. James Tea Room get their own private nook for their 2-hour afternoon tea experience. Look at these plush couches!

They even had a little welcome note along with our sugar and cream.

The wonderfully gracious manager of the tea room, Daniel — who is the sweet owner’s son and who was also an exchange student at Oxford University –  knew we were coming. He had checked out Kevin & Amanda before we got there, saw our NYC Macarons post, and recommended a tea especially for us. It was called Picasso Soiree,  a medium bodied black tea with traces of — are you ready for this? — french vanilla, caramel, creme brulee, chocolate, and vanilla. Daniel just became my new best friend. This tea was so right up my alley, it couldn’t have been more perfect had it been created specifically for me. It was absolutely perfect. I still can’t get over how delicious it was. What I wouldn’t do to get my hands on another cup of this tea, I am still dreaming about it!

The St James Tea Room | Albuquerque, New Mexico

Our little nook had its own curtains to draw for quiet privacy, but oh how my eyes widened when I saw our tiered tray of sweets and savories peeking through!

The St James Tea Room | Albuquerque, New Mexico

Check out this cute tray! Now I will admit, when I first saw it, I thought “No way is this going to be enough food. I’m starving!” But let me assure you, we left completely stuffed and satisfied.

Here was our menu for the afternoon.

The bottom tray was our savories. Up front is Clara’s Traditional Tea Sandwich of
Orange, Turkey, and Cucumber with Chevre. Oh my gosh, I loved every single bite. The delicious puff to the right of the sandwich was a luscious bite of beef wellington. Such a treat.

The St James Tea Room | Albuquerque, New Mexico

And oh my gosh! Will you look at this teeny tiny truffled potato?? This has got to be the cutest, tiniest potato I have ever seen! How did they get it so small?? I loved it.

The St James Tea Room | Albuquerque, New Mexico

The middle tray was filled with delicious breads. Here we have the St. James Traditional Cream Scone, clotted cream, and stollen in the background. This scone was — how do I say this? — undeniably, unequivocally, absolutely, positively, one hundred percent… Life. Changing. I’m from the south. I’ve had a lot of good biscuits in my day. This scone was Life. Changing. How can a biscuit be this good?? I would get in my car right now and drive all day and all night and probably all day again just for one more of these heavenly, melt-in-your-mouth, Life Changing scones.

Okay, that’s all I’m going to say about the scone.

Except that I had one bite of the scone and promptly forgot all about taking pictures for the rest of our tea. Can you believe it? Not even the sweets!

The St James Tea Room | Albuquerque, New Mexico

When we finished our tea, I had to check out the adorable gift shop we passed on the way in.

They had so many cute little tea sets, including one with cupcakes!

This room had gorgeous jewelry, some of the most unique I’ve ever seen. It was very hard not to spend my entire life savings here.

The St James Tea Room | Albuquerque, New Mexico

We left the St. James Tea Room utterly and supremely relaxed and rejuvenated, as well as completely stuffed with one of the most delicious and memorable meals of our lives.

If you are ever anywhere near the area, you absolutely must make a reservation for afternoon tea here. You will love it!
