Planning a trip to Madrid Spain? Toledo and Segovia are the best day trips from Madrid. Both are only about 30 minutes away by high-speed train. You can take these day trips from Madrid on your own, no need for a tour!
If you want to get out of the city for a day or two, I highly recommend Toledo or Segovia. Or both!
First let me show you Segovia!
Segovia
Castle of Segovia
Pictured above is the castle of Segovia. It was one of the many inspirations for Cinderella’s Castle at Walt Disney World.
Roman aqueducts in Segovia
Segovia is famous for having one of the best-preserved elevated Roman aqueducts.
It is breathtaking to see in person.

Toledo
Another one of the best day trips from Madrid is Toledo.
For both of our Toledo and Segovia day trips from Madrid, we took the 9 AM train, and came back on an afternoon train, like around 4 PM, so we were back in Madrid for dinner. That gave us plenty of time to explore both cites.
Mirador del Valle — Best View in Toledo
Take a cab to the Mirador del Valle for this overlook of Toledo!
When you arrive at the train station, you can easily walk to the old city of Toledo.
Here is the gate you will enter.
Alcázar de Toledo
This was a beautiful archway near the Alcázar de Toledo.
Love wandering the streets of Toledo on our day trip from Madrid!

Hi
Thank you for post your travel experience to toledo and. Segovia.
May I know, is it difficult to reach Segovia by train?
Do we have to buy entrace ticket in advance like Alcazar?
Thank you :)
Could you imagine living in a place like this? Waking up to sites like that- so much history! I am loving the gate photo too!
Wow~ must be amazing to see in person, but your photo’s are still wetting my travel appetite. Some day!!! I took Latin in high school and college and always thought I see the Roman Aqueducts, but it was not meant to be, at least for now.
