My Favorite Knife Ever (Winners Announced!)

Time’s up!

The winners of the Wusthof 7″ Santoku knives are:

#1 Sara Fehling
#90 Sarah N
#394 Pam
#1378 Kevin
#2219 Rebecca

Congrats you guys! I’m so excited for you. That was a fun giveaway — how often does the first comment win?? Plus we have a “Kevin” winner. How fun. I’ve sent y’all an email!

Hi guys, I’ve got a fun Tuesday giveaway to share today. This Wusthof 7″ Santoku is my favorite knife ever. It literally changed my cooking life. Before I got this knife I avoided recipes that required a lot of cutting, especially cutting chicken. Talk about limiting my options. But what a difference a good knife makes! I feel so much more confident to try new recipes with this thing, because it makes cutting so quick and effortless. Prepping for recipes is a breeze.

I love this knife and I want you guys to have it too. I’ve got five (5) of them to give away today, courtesy of Wusthof.

Wusthof 7″ Santoku Knife Giveaway

Five (5) Kevin & Amanda readers will win a Wusthof 7″ Santoku knife, courtesy of Wusthof.

To be entered to win, just answer the following question in the comments section of this post: What one thing do you chop the most?

Contest ends Sunday at 8 pm CST. One entry per person, please. Winners will be chosen by Random.org and notified by email.

Check out Wusthof on Facebook.

Good luck!!

Onions. I use onions in most of the savory foods that I cook, so we’re forever chopping onions.

2
Dolly August 16, 2011 at 8:02 am

Celery. I use this in soups, potato salad, and of course my Thanksgiving and Christmas Dressing.

3
Lidy Caldera August 16, 2011 at 2:07 am

4
Tori August 16, 2011 at 2:11 am

Onions here! Lots of recipes call for onions, green peppers, and celery as the base veggies, so I chop a lot of those. :)

10
Katrina August 16, 2011 at 2:43 am

Omg I’ve been saving for the past month for this specific knife! I find myself cutting onions, garlic–any aromatics, really–the most often. The better the knife, the faster the onion’s cut…. no tears :)

11
rani August 16, 2011 at 2:46 am

12
Steffi August 16, 2011 at 2:49 am

13
Judy Jones August 16, 2011 at 2:49 am

Hard to choose just one thing but I guess that would have to be VEGETABLES!! You see, that way I can include peppers, onions, etc and not have to pick just one :)

23
Mari August 16, 2011 at 2:58 am

Gah. Believe it or not – chicken! ;D
Although I do my fair share of garlic, herbs and onions as well. I’ve bought (or dh bought for me) at least a dozen knives in the last 5 years or so. Everything from supposedly superior steel to those ceramic jobs.
Ish.
I *wish* they would all stay SHARP. Like, new out of the package sharp. Wouldn’t that be a perfect world? :)

I had a very, very good knife many, many moons ago. It’s edge is a little worn and it’s not as straight edge as it use to be. Every time I cut onions, i find myself doing double the work even when i sharpen the edge. Cutting rooted vegetables is just as hard/difficult. So receiving this knife as a gift will alleviate this difficult task. thank you,

81
Cary August 16, 2011 at 5:35 am

I love your blog and sometimes I want to be Amanda for the week..

Susan August 16, 2011 at 6:37 am

Tomatoes – can’t live without them.

162
dawn August 16, 2011 at 6:37 am

Onions! Love the looks of the knife btw.

163
Angela August 16, 2011 at 6:38 am

I seem to chop quite a bit of onions. I love sticking them in everything!

164
Trudy Shaw August 16, 2011 at 6:38 am

I’m right there with the garlic and onions!!!! Good knives really DO make a difference. Thanks for the chance to win :)

165
jessicookie August 16, 2011 at 6:38 am

Onions, probably? My husband has a weird textural opposition to large chunks of vegetables, so any onions/peppers/tomatoes that go into a recipe have to be diced very, very small!

166
The Mrs @ Success Along the Weigh August 16, 2011 at 6:38 am

We chop fruits and veggies the most and LOTS of ‘em since they help us with the weight loss. The hubby bought this great knife but mine is a cruddy one that came with a set. This looks awesome!

167
Trisha August 16, 2011 at 6:39 am

Onions, plain and simple. I’ve gotten better about the crying part when I cut them. :-)

168
Misti August 16, 2011 at 6:40 am

The number one thing would be veggies. Awesome give-away!

169
Anna A August 16, 2011 at 6:40 am

My family loves onions! I use it in many of the dishes I make.

170
Laura August 16, 2011 at 6:41 am

Zucchini and asparagus! Followed by onions and green peppers!

171
Regina Collins August 16, 2011 at 6:42 am

The thing I chop the most is veggies for stew or just plain onions for anything.
I don’t normally like chopping. My knives are never sharp enough and it takes forever. Wish there was a better or faster way.

Thanks
Have a blessed day

172
Deb August 16, 2011 at 6:42 am

Onions:)

173
Stephanie Holdaway August 16, 2011 at 6:43 am

Chicken and veggies!

174
Kristin August 16, 2011 at 6:43 am

My husband and I are trying to go more vegetarian, so we’ve been chopping vegetables like it’s our job! A knife like this would sure make the chopping easier!

175
Karen G. August 16, 2011 at 6:43 am

Oh man – I am constantly chopping ONION!!! I would so love to win this knife – I know that a great knife really makes all the difference in prepping your dishes! Thank you so much for th opportunity!

176
Karen August 16, 2011 at 6:44 am

It’s a toss up between onions and garlic.

177
Carrie Joy August 16, 2011 at 6:44 am

Home-grown tomatoes (this month)–for salsa and a killer bruschetta–and tomatoes need an amazing knife.

178
Heather V August 16, 2011 at 6:44 am

Onions and raw vegetables, hands down the most chopped.

179
LST August 16, 2011 at 6:44 am

I cook for my family of five and love it! I chop lots of veggies, but especially onions and bell peppers. :)

180
Rhonda Ross August 16, 2011 at 6:44 am

The thing I chop most often has got to be onions.

181
Cretia August 16, 2011 at 6:45 am

Potatoes and onions

182
Jae August 16, 2011 at 6:45 am

I chop onions the most but lately I have been spending time chopping all the fresh vegetables summer provides to make delicious salads for lunch.

183
jamiecasiano August 16, 2011 at 6:45 am

In the summer it’s strawbery and cilantro and in the winter onions and garlic.

184
Cheryl Birkey August 16, 2011 at 6:45 am
185
Kim August 16, 2011 at 6:46 am

I definitely cut up a lot of apples for my children but I think this knife would come in handy with those recipes involving endless cutting. I always dread cutting up veggies for salads but I don’t think I would with this knife.

186
Analisa August 16, 2011 at 6:46 am

Onion, onion, onions! I bought a little chopper and tried using my food processor but it just isn’t the same as chopping them myself with a knife. A great knife is heavenly!

187
Haley August 16, 2011 at 6:47 am

I must put onions in everything… because it seems like I am always chopping onions!

188
Jan August 16, 2011 at 6:48 am

I chop veggies and fruits (watermelon, cantelope) the most. I need a good knife for slippery items like onions, chicken, etc. Thank you and have a good day!

189
Lori August 16, 2011 at 6:48 am

Vegetables in general are the foods I chop the most. Onions tops the list!

190
Ashleigh August 16, 2011 at 6:48 am

Veggies. I am always using an onion or garlic. I love “pretending” I can cut like a real chef!

191
Linda August 16, 2011 at 6:48 am

Onions, garlic, jalapeño, tomatoes, cilantro, then slice a lime in half and squeeze over all, add salt and pepper…..Salsa! Chopping makes me smile! Thanks for the chance to make it go faster with a great knife

192
Mary Anne August 16, 2011 at 6:48 am

Onions!

193
Elizabeth August 16, 2011 at 6:49 am

Onions & garlic! Just like most of you! Would love a new knife and maybe get rid of some of the tears.

194
Debbie August 16, 2011 at 6:50 am

Now this is a serious knife! I would say the thing I chop most is vegetables/herbs.
I wish I had invested in a great set of knives instead of struggling with whatever I happen to have. Thanks for the give-away opportunity, Amanda.

195
Karen U. August 16, 2011 at 6:50 am

Veggies! Tomatoes from the garden right now. Thanks!!

196

197
Merideth August 16, 2011 at 6:50 am

Tomatoes! My son eats 2 tomato sandwiches everyday!

198
Joanne August 16, 2011 at 6:51 am

I chop onions, parsley and cilantro most often.

199
Cindy White August 16, 2011 at 6:51 am

I love chopping anything and everything! It’s almost like therapy….puts me in the zone :) But if I had to choose one item I love to chop, it would have to be peppers!

200
JoAnne August 16, 2011 at 6:51 am

I have a set of these knives but not this one. I chop vegetables the most. I love salads. Maybe I’d cut more chicken if I had one..right now my husband has that job!

201
a August 16, 2011 at 6:52 am

I would have to say tomatoes…….and a little basil. Yum!

202
Emily Wilkinson August 16, 2011 at 6:52 am

203

204

Onions, followed closely by peppers, chicken, tomotoes, basil, parsley, etc. Thanks for the giveaway!

Ha! I just wrote a review of the Wusthof Classic knives, they are ridiculously amazing! I swear I heard Angels sing when I opened the box they were in last Christmas! I don’t have this one however and I’m fairly certain I need to for chopping all the apples, carrots (for the dogs!) onions, potatoes (for the Hubby!) basil, mushrooms, garlic (for me!) :)

210

211
Robin August 16, 2011 at 6:57 am

Veggies and chicken

212

256
Laura H. August 16, 2011 at 7:11 am

257

Veggies!

261
Christine August 16, 2011 at 7:13 am

Another onion chopper here! Diced, sliced, onions go in just about everything. If I’m making a recipe that calls for half an onion, a small onion, I just get the big sweet vidalia or purple onions and freeze the rest for later.

That is a gorgeous knife!

262
Rita Fuja August 16, 2011 at 7:13 am

What a great giveaway! I definitely chop onions and garlic the most…they go in everything!

264
Liz Moore August 16, 2011 at 7:14 am

I’d love to chop somebody’s head off sometimes when I’m cutting up and prepping all the ingredients for a recipe and they come in to the kitchen and say “when is dinner?” All kidding aside, even with all kinds of chopping gadgets, I would reach for my Wusthof 7″ Santoku everytime (if I had one). Thanks!

265
Lynn August 16, 2011 at 7:15 am

Onions!! I can’t get enough of them.. red onions in particular. I love strong bold flavors and this seems to be the one thing that I chop the MOST! Love your blog!

266

301
Wini August 16, 2011 at 7:29 am

Onions!

303
Teri August 16, 2011 at 7:29 am

310
Suzy August 16, 2011 at 7:32 am

I think chopping the crust off sandwiches has to top the list, though onions and apples are a close second…

311
Julie Oliver August 16, 2011 at 7:33 am

Onions and potatoes

312
bonnie August 16, 2011 at 7:33 am

It’s a toss up (or a chop up) between onions and potatoes for me … that’s my Irish heritage showing … with veggies and garlic following closely behind.

313
stephanie August 16, 2011 at 7:34 am

Pepper-red, yellow, and orange.

314
Kay August 16, 2011 at 7:34 am

Onions Onions and more Onions. I use onions in just about everything I cook; and I rather chop them by hand then use any type of chopper. :)

315
Angie August 16, 2011 at 7:34 am

Hmmm, it’s a toss up between onions and red peppers – onions at dinner, red peppers at lunch. Love Wusthof!

316
Alison August 16, 2011 at 7:34 am

The one thing I chop the most is apples! We love apples in our house. We pick them I chop them up into thin slices, then we eat them! So delicious!!

317
Amanda Mac August 16, 2011 at 7:34 am

Add me to the onion brigade. :) Although, now that I think about it, I am cutting up limes at least twice a day. . .

318
Becky August 16, 2011 at 7:35 am

I cut up chicken all the time, but I don’t have any good knives to make it easy. I hope I win! I also love to make fresh salsa and I don’t have a food processor, so I chop everything by hand.

319
Taren August 16, 2011 at 7:36 am

What don’t I chop? I’m a mom of 4 under 7 years old. So I chopped everything from apples to onions, meats, veggies & fruits!

Probably onions and garlic!

321
Kendall August 16, 2011 at 7:36 am

I’m sure I’m not alone here…ONIONS! It seems like most of my fav recipes have onions in them! Every time I’m chopping onions, I think of the scene in Julie&Julia when Julia Child is practicing her knife skills by chopping a mountain of onions.

Laurie August 16, 2011 at 10:25 am

I DON’T chop much, because I don’t have a good knife. But I’m trying to help my young family eat healthy foods, so if I had a knife like this one, I would chop vegetables and keep them in the fridge for after-school snacking!

844
Karen K August 16, 2011 at 10:26 am

Onions, Onions, Onions! and more Onions!

845

Onions and chicken!

853
Marilee Vickers August 16, 2011 at 10:29 am

I think the item that I chop the most would have to be onions. Cutting chicken is the worst, I agree. Thank you for offering this knife as a giveaway…

854
Sasha August 16, 2011 at 10:30 am

Boy that’s a tough one…I would say tomatoes.

855
Amy C August 16, 2011 at 10:30 am

856

858
Jenni August 16, 2011 at 10:31 am

ONIONS AND GARLIC! And then….bacon. I LOVE WUSTHOF knives! Love them! Thanks for the opportunity to win. And I also LOVE your blog!

859
Miranda August 16, 2011 at 10:31 am

Tomatoes! Just the clean, quiet slice through the thin skin. Perfect.

860
Laura August 16, 2011 at 10:31 am

I was JUST checking that knife out yesterday! I have one Wusthof knife but not this one… I think I got the wrong one because it’s difficult to chop soft skinned foods, like tomatoes, with.

Bell peppers and onions are chopped the most in my kitchen. Closely followed by fresh herbs and garlic.

861
Jessica August 16, 2011 at 10:32 am

870
JennStar August 16, 2011 at 10:36 am

Onions!! I use them in almost everything and I always put in more than the recipe calls for! (oh, and I’m known to smash and chop lots of garlic, too!)

871
Desi August 16, 2011 at 10:36 am

It feels like I’m always cutting on tomatoes, especially this time of the year. I just canned 14 quarts of tomato juice and 15 quarts of whole tomatoes. It is so hard to find a knife that does a good job on tomatoes.

872
Meri August 16, 2011 at 10:37 am

Do fingers count?

873
Meri August 16, 2011 at 10:37 am

I am always cutting veggies up. Especially onions, broccoli and garlic. During the summer, it seems like I cut up a ton of fruit, the kids eat it as soon as it is cut, so it is a never-ending process. I’m sure it would go lots faster with a “real” knife.

I chop a lot of veggies – especially onions. I usually buy a few big onions, chop them all up, put 1/2 cup portions into baggies and throw them in the freezer. Then they’re ready whenever I need them and are super easy to throw in when I’m cooking meat for tacos, etc. :)

Veggies – I feel like I am perpetually chopping veggies. ESPECIALLY my three staples – garlic, onion, and bell peppers. I have one chef knife from the crappy block of knives my husband owned before I met him that works mildly well with prep work. Sometimes.

I also slice a lot of meat – like steak or chicken for quesadillas. Would LOVE a proper knife! Thanks Amanda!

1009
Kindra August 16, 2011 at 11:48 am

Chicken – we have lots of chicken in our house and with 3 little kids it’s easier to dice it up before cooking it! A nice knife would really make that easier!

Onions! They add so much to most dishes and my husband LOVES them – along with one of my cats. So strange! Anyway, Einstein (my cat…not my husband) would love it if I’d chop more onions with a new knife! ;)

Onions….even though I hate that they make me cry. (Or it could be that my oldest just moved out to go to college…..) I’ll just say it’s the onions!
