The Sweet Tooth Fairy Bakery

Cupcake Review at Sweet Tooth Fairy Bakery

Maria and I met through our blogs almost three years ago at the BlogHer Food blogging conference. We instantly hit it off (perhaps it’s our shared love of all things sweet!) and have kept in touch ever since. We talk almost every day now whether it’s about blogging, husbands, life, or cookies. :) Ever since we first met, Maria has been convincing me that my next bakery tour needs to be in Salt Lake City. Filled with award-winning bakeries, world-renowned chocolate, and some of America’s top pastry chefs, I knew I had to put Salt Lake City at the top of my list. I have been dying to make it happen! Maria knows her sweets and I knew she could take me to all the best places. :)

After my parents and Kevin went home from our ski trip to Deer Valley, I was so excited to be able to stay an extra week with my friend and let the sweet adventure begin.

We went to a new bakery every day, and this post is the first of several chronicling our sugar exploits. Now might be the time to break out the stretchy pants. You’ve been warned. ;)

Cupcake Review at Sweet Tooth Fairy Bakery

Our first stop was The Sweet Tooth Fairy gourmet bake shop. Featured on Rachael Ray, winner of Food Network’s “Cupcake Wars”, and acclaimed for her famous “Cakebites,” we got to sit down with sweet owner and self-taught baker Megan Brown in one of the cutest bakeries I have ever visited.

Cupcake Review at Sweet Tooth Fairy Bakery

How fabulous does this cupcake case look?? :)

Cupcake Review at Sweet Tooth Fairy Bakery

Megan dreams up fun cupcakes in flavor combinations she loves and makes them happen! Talk about a dream job. :)

Cupcake Review at Sweet Tooth Fairy Bakery

The Sweet Tooth Fairy is more than cupcakes. She’s also got decadent brownies, bars, assorted sweets, her famous cakebites, and soft, chewy cookies topped with frosting. Loved these cute “cupcake” cookies!

Perfectly sweet frosted hearts for Valentine’s Day.

Cupcake Review at Sweet Tooth Fairy Bakery

How fun would it be to open up a box and find these cupcakes inside?? :)

Cupcake Review at Sweet Tooth Fairy Bakery

All the flavors sounded so delicious and unique. There was no way we could choose just one! :)

One of my favorites was the Strawberry Shortcake cupcake (bottom right). The frosting is flavored with real strawberries and it tastes like a strawberry milkshake! Yum! Also loved the Double Fudge cupcake (top right).

The Junior Mint cupcake (top left) was a special of the month. The frosting tasted just like the middle of a Junior Mint and was dipped in a hard chocolate shell like a dipped cone. Then it was all topped with a little Junior Mint on top. I LOVED the texture of the sweet, soft frosting paired with the crunch of a chocolate shell! All cupcakes need to be made like that. :) Another favorite was the toasted coconut cupcake (bottom left).

Look how massive their cookies are! They take two hands to hold them. :) Love that they are topped with frosting. :) This pink frosting on the cupcake is the strawberry frosting from the Strawberry Shortcake cupcake, and the white is an almond-flavored buttercream like on the vanilla frosted cupcakes.

Cupcake Review at Sweet Tooth Fairy Bakery

They are so soft and chewy on the inside!

The Sweet Tooth Fairy also has the revolutionary “Cupshake” — a cupcake blended with a milkshake! You can pick any cupcake and they will mix it with ice cream to create a perfect cupshake. This decadent combo is a Chocolate Hazelnut Nutella cupcake blended with vanilla ice cream. Mamma mia!

I have now had My cupshake brings all the boys to the yard stuck in my head for over a week.

You’re welcome.

Cupcake Review at Sweet Tooth Fairy Bakery

But my absolute favorite thing at Sweet Tooth Fairy was their Cakebites! It’s no wonder that’s what they’re famous for! :)

Cupcake Review at Sweet Tooth Fairy Bakery

This Salted Caramel Cakebite was absolutely life-changing. Salty, chocolaty, caramely. Perfection. I could eat a whole box of these.

…which is totally what I recommend you do. ;)

Did you know you can order Sweet Tooth Fairy Cakebites online? Megan ships her cakebites daily anywhere in the continental United States. You can pick whatever flavors your heart desires. :) View flavors online here.

I’ve had many cupcakes in my day, but my two favorites (I love them equally) was passionfruit (with a passionfruit custard center) that I found in San Francisco and one of the cupcakes Megan made on Cupcake Wars, I think it was sweet potato pie? It was incredible, especially made into a cupshake. I think it should be a daily offering!

7

I am not a chocolate fan, so vanilla is the best. Plain vanilla with vanilla frost. Sometimes the classics are just so goooooood. Would love to try vanilla with a dash of pumpkin.

31
Edward March 5, 2013 at 5:32 am

My wife make cupcakes all of the time out of blueberry muffins. She takes a few frozen blueberries and adds it to vanilla frosting and it turns out being a blueberry muffin cupcake

129
mason March 5, 2013 at 7:41 am

Ummmm, I love a good hazelnut/chocolate combo, but I’d love to try a lime/mango tropical theme combo someday soon . . .

130
Sarah A March 5, 2013 at 7:41 am

I love the looks of that salted caramel cakebite! I also think that chocolate raspberry would be a great combination.

131
Suzanne Martinson March 5, 2013 at 7:42 am

Truthfully, I would love to try all of them! And the cake bites sound and look incredible! My question is if there is a German Chocolate cupcake? It was my favorite cake when I was a child and have yet to find the exact tasting frosting that I remember.

132
Kelley S. March 5, 2013 at 7:46 am

I was done when you said salted caramel, but the strawberry shortcake is sounding delicious too!

133
Lori March 5, 2013 at 7:46 am

Wow everything looks soooo yummy there!

I have to say double fudge is my favorite…the more chocolate the better!!

134
Karen Lynch March 5, 2013 at 7:46 am

I kind of change flavors based on mood and seasons, really looking forward to spring so a light citrusy flavor such as lemon with a light lemon buttercream frosting sounds divine.

Thanks for the giveaway.

135
Meg March 5, 2013 at 7:47 am

YUM. I would love to see an Almond/Chocolate/Coconut. My favorite is anything chocolate + PB!

136
cassie March 5, 2013 at 7:47 am

The Nutella one sounds pretty yummy. Would like to see one with Biscoff since that’s my current weakness.

137
Jeanne K March 5, 2013 at 7:48 am

Variety is the ‘spice of life’ so I would enjoy a sampling. A combination for cakebites I think would go well together is pineapple/ white or dark choc sprinkled with fine coconut, macadamia, or salted pistachio.

138
Teri Dingler March 5, 2013 at 7:48 am

Wow! I would love to visit this place! And would love the Salted Caramel, Lemon and Peanut Butter! That would encompass all that makes me do the happy dance!

139
Jennifer March 5, 2013 at 7:49 am

I think I would love the peanut butter and the grasshopper ones! They all look yummy though! I would love to see some strawberry ones!

140

144

Hm, favorite combo: carrot cake/cream cheese icing.
Combo I’d like to see: everything I can think of it has probably already been done LOL. Anything cherry flavored!

145
Jennifer Fredericks March 5, 2013 at 7:53 am

Oh, must I choose? I’m torn between the toasted coconut and the strawberry cupcakes! One of each, please.

148
Melissa B March 5, 2013 at 7:57 am

Chocolate/peanutbutter! Who could beat that combination. Chocolate mint would be great also! Chocolate/redwine?

155
Sasha March 5, 2013 at 8:01 am

Grasshopper sounds divine!

156
Cynthia March 5, 2013 at 8:02 am

My favorite is still a vanilla cupcake with vanilla buttercream filling and frosting. A cool cupcake would be a butterfingers cupcake with peanut butter frosting and a butterfinger filling.

157
MaryBeth March 5, 2013 at 8:04 am

I love a rich chocolate cupcake with smooth chocolate buttercream frosting. I’d love a cupcake with a decandent ‘middle’ like the filling that’s in a boston cream pie. If someone will bake it, I’ll eat it :-)

158
Cathy March 5, 2013 at 8:05 am

Chocolate and peanut butter!

159
Roxana Vera March 5, 2013 at 8:06 am

160
Brandy March 5, 2013 at 8:06 am

Everything looks so yummy! I’d love to have the caramel cakebite or the red velvet. A lemon flavored cake mixed with cream cheese frosting dipped in white chocolate would make an awesome cakebite!

161
karen March 5, 2013 at 8:06 am

Oh wow wonderful bakery! My favorite cupcake is anything chocolate. Or anything vanilla. Or, just anything! lol.

162

166
JenLarson March 5, 2013 at 8:10 am

Something in lemon/lime to celebrate Spring!

173
Susann A March 5, 2013 at 8:12 am

Jr. Mint has got to be the most ingenious combo ever. I would love to see a classic German Springerle cookie made into a cupcake. Not necessarily the beautiful depiction on top, but the flavor! My grandmother would shine down from heaven.

174
kristin rasmussen March 5, 2013 at 8:14 am

201
Maria March 5, 2013 at 8:30 am

315
Vivian Chen March 5, 2013 at 9:52 am

Oh goodness Amanda,
I would love to tell you to stop posting these amazing delicious looking dishes but then I’d miss them too much hahaha it doesn’t help that the Chocolate Hazelnut Nutella cupcake blended with vanilla ice cream looks to die for.

As for myself, I love red velvet with cream cheese frosting or anything with a deep rich chocolate cupcake (peanut butter frosting perhaps?) but I would love to see a ferrero roche inspired cupcake since that is my favorite all time candy.

316
Karen March 5, 2013 at 10:24 am

323
Jennifer March 5, 2013 at 9:56 am

In general I love fruity desserts, apple is my favorite. But my kids & hubby are chocoholics and they are slowly but surely winning me over to their side. Turns out oreo cupcakes are pretty amazing!

324
Shari B. March 5, 2013 at 9:56 am

A favorite Cuban dessert is Guava with cream cheese. I think that would make an interesting cupcake.

325
Michelle Harden March 5, 2013 at 9:58 am

So glad you were able to come to S.L. That’s my city, and I’m so glad you enjoyed yourself while you were here! I read somewhere AGES ago about a Pistachio Cardamom Cupcake and have always wondered what THAT might taste like. As I rule, I try not to choose between cupcakes, since they are one of my favoritest things ever, but I do tend to veer in the direction of a coconutty, pina colada cupcake most often, with a cherry on top of course!

326
Wild Child March 5, 2013 at 10:01 am

For my sweet tooth craving the double fudge sounds delicious!!!

My favorite cupcake combo is chocolate and peanut butter…actually, that’s my favorite combo for pretty much anything haha ;) I don’t really know what combo I’d like to see, since I think pretty much everything that sounds good has already been created. Maybe something involving chocolate, peanut butter, and bananas? Those three are always good together.

332
Cami March 5, 2013 at 10:06 am

335
Sandy March 5, 2013 at 10:09 am

I noticed someone else confessed to never having a gourmet bakeshop cupcake… I got my gourmet cupcakes from my mother. :-) My very favorite cupcake is a spice cupcake with raisins and just a light sweep of buttercream frosting that has just a hint of lemon juice in it. Oh, my, what a great memory! If I could have a custom flavor I would ask for really moist carrot cake with raisins and walnuts topped with buttercream frosting and sprinkled with crushed walnuts. Guess I really do favor spice cakes and raisins!

336
Amber March 5, 2013 at 10:12 am

Pretty, pretty, pretty! I LOVE a chocolate and peanut butter combo, or chocolate and caramel! But, I will try it all….bring it on! :-)

337

As for a new flavor….how about a take off of the hard shell chocolate but adding marshmallow inside and drizzle with caramel – OH MY!

Thank you for this blog post – now I know where I want to visit when I go to SLC!

But…I also love cherries… so though I’ve never seen one before, I’d love to try a chocolate covered cherry cupcake. Maybe made with cherry cake mix with bits of marchino cherries cut up in it paired with frosting with a few Cello brand chocolate covered cherries chopped up in the frosting? See? I can be creative – purist or not! ha! – Karen

My favorite cupcake is your chocolate chip cookie dough one. AMAZING!

I’m sure it exists out there already… but how fun would a candy cupcake be? Cut up a bunch of candy bars, include cookie crumbles, m&ms, etc and mix into a yummy vanilla batter. Then an over the top chocolate frosting :) Would be a perfect way to use up halloween candy this next year.

458
Cellabella March 5, 2013 at 12:09 pm

haleys. March 5, 2013 at 12:26 pm

My favorite type of cupcake is a jumbo cupcake and it has to be moist as possible!! I love a dense and moist cupcake that can completely overtake my senses and fill my heart with joy. . . my ultimate flavor combination would probably be a German chocolate cupcake (extra dense German!) complimented by a toffee or even a toffee and caramel bits frosting with a sweet and silky taste, just enough flavor to support the ultra dense and coconut hints of the cupcake! Hope it sounds ultra decadent and tasty!!

474
Emily March 5, 2013 at 12:27 pm
