Over the years, my father crafted a “super-secret” smoked-brisket recipe — that was a star of many family BBQs. Shortly before He passed, I followed his preparation through the one day and a half recipe and recorded the ingredients, marinade, rub, and cooking techniques. What an experience and memory.
I have the smoked-brisket recipe notes hidden in a drawer as I couldn’t face them, as they reminded me of the last time I spent with my father.

The first thing I would cook on the new smoker? My Father’s smoked-brisket and trimmings for all my family. . . along with presenting each one with a copy of the “super-secret” recipe.

  13. Caitlin Atkins

I’d smoke babyback ribs rubbed with spices, and then on the shelf below would be a skillet of spiced pinto beans, which would catch all of the drippings from the ribs!!
