Organize Overflowing Bathroom Beauty Products with Crown Molding Shelves

Hi guys! I am so excited to share my new shelves with you today! This is just a quick peak at a few things we’ve been doing around the house. :) If you follow me on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook you got a sneak peak of these shelves on Friday. :) I love them! I have always wanted to store and organize my perfumes and lotions in a way so I could easily see what I have and also so they’d be right at my fingertips. I was originally thinking something like this vintage spice rack organizer or especially this awesome hidden pull-out storage. At our old house, I had something similar to the pull-out storage, although not nearly as nice!! :) It was a very skinny wire laundry cart tucked between the tub and the counter. You can sort of see the space I’m talking about in this photo, although there was more space than there appears to be in the photo. :)

So anyway, when I started figuring out exactly what I wanted in the new house, I noticed this empty space behind the linen closet door.

It’s perfect for shallow shelves! And you can’t see it when you first walk in the bathroom, so it’s sort of hidden so the small room doesn’t look too cluttered. :)

I used these 14″ black shelves from Walmart. They were perfect! I found them in the picture frame section, down on the very bottom shelf. They were kind of hard to find unless you know exactly where to look. :) They also have them in a 24″ size. They were around $7 a shelf. If you’re looking for more sizes and colors, I’ve also seem similar shelves like these at Target, Pottery Barn, and Hobby Lobby. They even have them at Home Depot and Lowes, although they were too long for what I needed. I think the shortest ones I could find at those places were 23″.

Some of you asked what all I keep on these shelves, so here is a close-up of each shelf. :)

  • Love all of these Beauty Rush scents from Victoria’s Secret. Cupquake, Candy Baby, Juiced Berry and Appletini. Swoon.
  • The Bodycology Vanilla Cupcake one is from Ulta, although I think I’ve seen them somewhere else common too.. Maybe Walmart or Target?
  • The chocolate strawberry one is from CVS *years* ago. They used to have such fun bath and body products in their own brand. I wish they still had them!
  • The Layers one is Sugar Cookie from Scentsy! :)

  • Tree Hut Brazilian Nut is one of my favorite scents ever!! Love this lotion!! I got this at Ulta, but I’ve also seen it at Walmart.
  • The sparkly Eiffel towel shaped spray is macaron scented body spray from Bath and Body Works.
  • Okay, seriously, the Chocolate Milkshake lotion is my FAVORITE scent ever. Ulta discontinued it. I may never get over it. This is all I have left. I’m hoarding it.

All from Victoria’s Secret here. Caramel Kiss (on the end) is another one that has been discontinued that I’m hoarding. Dear Victoria’s Secret. Please bring back Caramel Kiss. Thank you.

  • Cinnamon Swirl (from Ulta) smells so good!

Love, love all of these.

  • ChocoLatte and Raspberry Gelato are from Target, but I think they’ve been discontinued as well. Why do they do this to me?
  • The Body one is from Max Brenner in NYC and smells like pure vanilla. Heaven!

Sparkly lotion shelf! Well, the first three anyway. :)

Super embarrassing self-tanner lotion shelf. Let’s move on. Except for the Coconut Passion. It smells good.

The paint color in the bathroom is Sherwin Williams Virtual Taupe. I have no idea why it looks like a different color in every single photo. It probably looks like the most like itself in the very first photo.

Thanks so much for looking!! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask in the comments. :) Have a great day!

Finally a realistic organizing post. Most pics show 3 items on each shelf and I don’t know
about anyone else but really my cabinets are pretty full and need organizing and I’m not throwing
out out valuable items. Love this idea.

WOW! I thought I was a body spray/lotion fanatic !!! I think we might be on the same level! Im going to get these shelves but I’m going to place them in my closet! Thanks for the idea!!

Ok, we’ll I skimmed too fast and didn’t get to the part where you named the paint color exactly. Lol beautiful bathroom, thanks for posting!

Amanda, I really enjoyed looking at your fragrances and scents, we like very similar items and scents.
Your shelving idea is great too, I love how your selection is at your fingertips!
Im sure glad to know others like food/sweet scents too!
Thanks for sharing your scents most though!

I can totally relate to your ‘hoarding’ of discontinued scents…I had a lovely one from Victoria’s Secret in that same line I always wore that was discontinued, the next one I picked ended up gone also so then I moved to Bath and Body Works where I went through Mango Mandarin, Orange Sapphire and yep those hit the dust too…although they show up at the yellow sale annually at least! I have come to accept the fact that once I find a scent I like I better just take all the stock right away cuz next time I come it’ll have been given the ax :) Love these shelves, great organizational idea!

Love it! I am on the hunt for a few of these, just an FYI for some that are looking for the bodycology I was told by them that their brand is carried at Walmart, Target, Cvs and a few others. However in my area Walmart, Target and Cvs don’t carry the cupcake. Bummer. I did find an Ulta that does but they are out of the lotion. Maybe lots of others beat me to the store. Haha hopefully they will get more in soon.

I love these posts Amanda! I have over 100 bottles of lotions and sprays so Im a little bit of an addict! I like to see all the different “flavors” I havnt seen before. Im totally going to get that Jelly Doughnut :)

  7. Tabitha (From Single to Married)

I thought I was the only one who had an extreme love of lotions, but I see that I am not. :) Love the shelves! My only question is: are they far enough away from the closet door that they don’t get knocked whenever it’s opened? Just curious. They look great though!

    1. Amanda

Yes, that was my biggest concern too! I know it looks deceiving in the photo, but you can fling the door open as hard as you want and it won’t hit the shelves. :)

  8. Sabrina

Love small shelves for narrow spaces! I have one shelf that is 3 feet wide by 8 inches deep for my calendar, cellphone charger, and phone station in the kitchen. Great photos! Thanks for sharing.

Your new house inspired me to finally pick the paint color for our basement we are finishing! I had been searching for MONTHS and couldn’t decide on just the right tone for the family room. But after I saw your post and you were kind enough to share the paint color I went the next day and picked up 4 gallons of Sherwin Williams Virtual Taupe. I had been searching for something that would go with the rest of the house but still a little different but not too dark and would match everything and Virtual Taupe was it! We painted the room just over a month ago and we all love it! Now to find carpet and furniture to go with it. Thanks for sharing all the fun tidbits that you do!

I LOVE all of your organizational posts Amanda! They are so perfect. I am always looking for more ways to be organized so thank you :) I love how organized you are, and these shelves are so cute!!!

Wow! You own so many different lotions and sprays! I have a lot of unopened lotions that I keep in the linen closet, but I limit myself to 4 or 5 scents that I keep in my nightstand. I use them up and then pick another 4 or 5. I would go crazy if I had tons of opened half-used bottles! :-P

  12. Jessica

When I saw this- I was so thankful that someone else out there has the same passion for body sprays/perfumes/lotions. My husband never understands why I need so much- and since we’ve been married my collection is slowly dwindling- I haven’t bought new stuff in FOREVER (plus I had to leave half of it back home when we moved- I just couldn’t justify paying shipping for it). Great storage idea, BTW!

    1. Sharde

Same here when I got married and moved I had so much I left some at home. So when I finish all the ones I do have I will just return home and pick up the rest!

  13. Anele @ Success Along the Weigh

It looks like a salon wall in there! LOVE IT! Does the self tanning lotion really work? I can’t count how many bottles I’ve bought but never used it long enough to see a difference. Hey, I think I still have an unopened bottle upstairs! Oops!

    1. Amanda

I’ve actually had good results with the Jergens Natural Glow! :) It works best if you use it a few days in a row though, and I’m never that organized and ahead of myself though. :p The Salon Airbrushed Legs and Pacifica Crushed Pearl are a little streaky. I wish the Pacifica worked better because it’s got a gorgeous shimmery sheen to it!

  14. Lori @ RecipeGirl

omg, more than anything after reading this post, I just want to go hunt for fun scents from Ulta and Philosophy! Love your organizing idea!

  15. Kelly @ Turned up to Eleven!

I love this idea! So great to keep stock of all you have, all you may need and all you DON’T need to repurchase (something I have an issue with from time to time). I love the layout and organization of it too!

  16. Iiona V.

I love this idea, it looks so refreshing and cute!

I have a question, what is your secret for getting the shelves to be on the wall so perfectly and securely? We had those in our living room and they were so not stable, I tried putting picture frames on them and it was an epic fail, LOL!

    1. Amanda

      Hi Iiona!

We did not use the included mounting hardware for these shelves. We used Kevin’s favorite drywall anchors, Twist-N-Lock 50 lb Drywall Anchors with Screws. These are so easy to install, you don’t even need a drill bit. You can just screw them right into the drywall, then twist in the screw. We use these for hanging EVERYTHING around the house! :) If something comes with mounting hardware (like these shelves) we usually don’t even use it, we prefer how easy and secure these anchors are! :) Here is a link to these anchors on Home Depot’s website:

      Hope this helps!

How fun! This idea could work in the kitchen too, if you have room. I did smaller versions of these I picked up at the dollar store several years ago, but they were really small, about 6 or 8 inch? I used a couple in a very small 1/2 bath for mini size lotions and stuff. I love the longer ones, and can’t wait to pick some up!

  18. Sherrie

Love your organizing ideas! It looks to me like all these bottle of lotions and sprays could also be used in your cookie and cake decorating pantry! I bet this bathroom smells wonderful, just hoping you don’t end up in here if you get hungry in the middle of the night! ;)
