Weissgerbergasse is one of the few streets that survived the heavy air raids during WWII. As a result, it’s one of the best-preserved streets in Nuremburg Germany.

Weissgerbergasse is also known as Tanner’s Lane. That is because in the Middle Ages, this street was filled with skilled leather makers and tradesmen.

    Hello Amanda

We took the Christmas Market cruise in 2013. I came across your photos in Regensburg and noticed one of a quaint street with an American Eskimo dog in it. Her name is Snowflake. We met her when I went into her owner’s shop and she was delightful. We had a 6 month old puppy of her breed at the time. I can’t believe I came across your picture. We are going back in Nov 2017 and hope to see her again.

We just got back from a weeklong trip down the Danube visiting the Christmas markets and I feel like looking at the pictures of your cruise we visited entirely different places! Now I’ll have to go back in the summer. :-)

Thank you for sharing these beautiful photos of Nuremberg. My grandson is from there and I have visited twice. It is a beautiful city and your photos brought back many lovely memories. Thanks again.

This is my favorite thing about Germany: Christmas and Christmas Markets! The only thing that could make it perfect was if our family was there with us for the 3 years we were there. As someone mentioned above, Chicago has a Christkindle Markt designed after this one and so does Philly (it started in 2010 or 2011 while we were stationed there). I can’t speak about the Chicago one, but the Philly one wasn’t since I’ve been to the real thing in Nurnberg. But, it was cool to go to and see the sites downtown. The blond lady (can’t remember the name) that opens up the Christmas Market in Nurnberg comes to Philly to open that one up too. Maybe you could do a Christmas market series one year since you’ve been to Nurnberg…you can add the Chicago and Philly markets to your list. LOL!

What an absolutely gorgeous place. Those window boxes are incredible! I wonder if I could do something similar at home. I also love the colors of all the buildings.

I am staring at those timberhouses trying with all my might to pick a favorite and it’s IMPOSSIBLE!! Positively lovely!

Wow! I am loving these posts. Do you have any more travel tips and info about “river cruising” in general? My husband and I have wanted to do this but are curious about the ins and outs of this style of travel. And were there other people/couples your age?

This is beautiful! I live in Poland and Krakow is also very cool. Did you have a chance to visit any of the historical places? Also in Berlin they have this rittersport chocolate place where you can make your own chocolate!

Did you know Chicago hosts a Christkindlesmarkt modeled after the Nuremberg, Germany market and is the largest authentic outdoor German holiday market in the United States. It actually starts today and runs through Christmas Eve.
