My Favorite Things: Anker Portable Phone Charger

Fun for summer!

Happy Friday, friends!! :) Wanted to share one of my favorite must-have travel gadgets with you today. It seems like whenever I’m traveling my phone just can’t hold a charge for a full day. If you’ve ever been traveling and experienced with woes of a dead battery with no outlet to charge, the Anker Portable Charger for iPhone and Android is a life saver. Just keep it in your purse (or, you know, whatever, if you’re a dude) and when your phone needs a charge you just plug it into the Anker for charging on the go. No outlet necessary.

I’ve had and loved a device like this for years, but here’s what sold me on upgrading:

The Anker can fully charge an iPhone 4-5 times.

Fun for summer!

Four to five times! And the price was much less expensive that I was expecting. It was an easy decision to make. The Anker really works too. I tested it out when I was in Austin, and not only did it fully charge my phone as many times as I needed it, I was able to share and let my friends charge their phones as well. Yay for being the one with all the cool toys, lol! ;)

Fun for summer!

To charge the Anker, it comes with a cord that connects the Anker to a USB, like your laptop or computer. But when I’m traveling, here’s how I use it. I plug my phone into the Anker and the Anker in to the wall using a device like pictured above (USB AC Adapter). That way both my phone and Anker are fully charged in the morning and I’m ready to go for the day.

I happened to have USB AC Adapter laying around from an old phone that I use, but you could also use the one that comes with the iPhone or iPad, or they are only about $5-$10 if you want to pick up an extra one to have on hand.

I especially love using the Anker with a retractable USB cord (this one’s compatible with the iPhone 5) so I don’t have a tangled mess of cords down at the bottom of my purse.

Anyway, just wanted to share this fun find with you! Bookmark it for Christmas, how awesome would this be as a stocking stuffer for gadget lovers? :)

Thanks for sharing your experience, very good to know – never heard of such a thing, but just ordered it at Amazon! It’s really great and much cheaper as the original Samsung akku pack!

I’m so going to have to get one of these. I have the same problem my phone normally dies by like 3-4pm. ugh. Totally sucks when I’m at a conference or like in June when I was on a media trip. I bought one of those chargers that uses batteries and it worked for like 2 hours and died so I’m going to have to try this one out!

I need this. My battery dies at least 1-2 times per week, and of course I never carry my charger with me.

Does it only work with iphones? I have a Windows phone that I love. Also I never remember to bring the car charger when I’m out and about. This would be handy to just keep in the diaper bag at all times since you can get 3-4 charges out of it before having to remember to charge the device itself.
Or maybe I just need something to make me remember…anything. ;)

I bought this for my husband back in April before he left for his deployment. What sold me on it was that he could charge his iPad AND still have juice left over for charging other USB devices (bought him the AirStash too). I have the mophie, but I was disappointed with how quickly it loses a charge. The Anker was so much cheaper and better quality. It really is a must have product for a mobile tech junkie :)

Hey Amanda,

I’ve been actually looking at a different Anker the past few weeks to use when at all day conferences. It’s the size of a tube of lipstick, so I could probably carry it easily in my pocket with the phone. http://www.amazon.com/Anker%C2%AE-Astro-2600mAh-External-Battery/dp/B005X1Y7I2/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1374266039&sr=8-11&keywords=anker+cell+phone+battery

But, I like the fact that yours allows me to charge devices 4-5 times in a day. That to me might be much more valuable and I could just easily slide it in my computer or camera bag when charging.

We bought a similar one. We used it on our recent trip to San Fran and loved it. Truly a lifesaver and something that is absolutely needed. Love it on my long runs too when I’m using my GPS tracker for time and it eats my battery. Nice that you mentioned it. I haven’t seen many mention of these around the blogosphere yet.

Perfect timing! I scurried around today looking for the correct charger to send with my daughter on an overnight adventure. Despite having iPhone 4 and 5′s and iPads of the same mix, I couldn’t locate one for her iPhone 4s (that anyone else would part with)…. The Anker is on my weekend purchase list – clearly my family can use it.
