Afternoon at the Lake, Part 1

Kayaking on Flint Creek @ Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge & on the Flint River, Huntsville Alabama

Last week I spent a gorgeous afternoon at the lake with some friends.
We had a grand time on the water with our feet kicked back, sunbathing, and catching up…

And kayaking! :)
Besides our honeymoon, I hadn’t been kayaking since my days at summer camp!

We packed a picnic lunch and spent the afternoon out on the water, soaking up the fresh air and sunshine.

Check out the bag of Doritos strapped to the back…
We weren’t taking any chances when it came to the snacks! :D

Kayaking was an absolute blast,
and talk about an awesome core workout.

Although it was a lot more relaxing than I thought it’d be… ;)

I was surprised it didn’t feel like a “workout” – I thought paddling would be hard or something.
Cause let me just put this out there -  I have zero upper body strength.
I can barely lift a gallon of milk.
But the next day, my abs felt super ripped.

I would’ve never guessed we kayaked for over 4 miles!
Good thing we had the GPS to track our path.  :)

This is definitely the way to check email / Twitter / Facebook… :)

Snapped a pic of my view…
It was a fantastic day to be outside.

This pretty much captures our afternoon…
But, uh, I don’t know about that face… the sun must’ve been bright or something!

This is Andy… He’s the photographer behind all the awesome pics up there. Thanks, Andy! :)
He brought his Canon 5D and 200mm f/2.8L lens along for the trip.
Loved that lens!

We had so much fun, we decided to go again the next day! :)
Keep an eye out for those pics – I’ll post them first thing tomorrow! :)
But I’ll give you a sneak peek…

We brought the dogs along for the ride! :)

Oh, Howie!

See you tomorrow! :)
P.S. Sorry for posting a picture of my feet so early on a Monday morning. :D

Being a nail tech, I was definitely interested in your pedicure —- the picture looked suspiciously like it had been taken with you in a KAYAK. Being a paddler, also, this post was right up my alley – or should I say river. What a nice day you had! Paddle on….

That does it. I DO need to try out kayaking! We love canoeing, but have been talking about trying out this other form of water cruising. Maybe this will be the year? Hope so! Great pictures!

What fun! Yes it’s OK to post those toes!
I miss the AL lakes, etc. Living in NM is far from all that I grew up with in AL.
Have fun!

Man – I’m so jealous! That looks like a blast – the weather has been abnormally beautiful here, but the lakes/rivers we kayak are still very COLD!

Uh, helloooo…I LOVE your nail polish color! I kayaked in the Mediterranean almost TWENTY years ago, and you have inspired me to do it again! I know the local lakes here have kayaks available to rent. Thanks! (Making your creamy enchiladas for dinner again this week.) You rock!

Hey Amanda. Do you sharpen your images in photoshop? If so, can you do a tutorial on this. There is so much information out there about it and I am a little lost. PLEASE HELP!

I have a wonderful river near by me so we have a brook that goes through our land. I love watching the people who Kyak right through. I am not able to do this activity any more but it is still fun to watch. I loved looking at all of your photos of both day one and 2. It looks as though you and your friends and your dogs all had 2 wonderful days of kyaking. Thank you for sharring the fun.

Oh, that looks like so much fun. Upper body strength is hard to come by, I think. Then there is always the gym!

am trying some of your suggestions for getting into the html code. it’s terrifying. I started with <br*
and I am slowly learning how to resize my pictures. I do like the large.
I really want to learn how to use fancy handwriting for my titles, but I am getting stuck. Will keep at it, though.
Your blog is great and you are so talented !
