Southern Sunny Weekend

Green Mountain Nature Trail - Huntsville, AL - February 2010

Green Mountain Nature Trail - Huntsville, AL - February 2010

Last weekend it snowed on Valentine’s Day.

This weekend the weather was sunny and gorgeous.

On Sunday the high was 68 degrees.

I broke out my summer cargo pants and we took Miley and Howie to the nature trail for an afternoon hike.

Green Mountain Nature Trail - Huntsville, AL - February 2010

The nature trail is always fun-

there’s a huge lake with ducks & geese that walk right up to you…

…a covered bridge…

…and a 2-mile walking trail around the lake.

I took these pictures with my Sony H20. It’s a compact point-and-shoot: a “throw it in my purse just in case I run into Orlando Bloom” camera. I love it for hiking- I mean, the big camera’s great and all- but my favorite lens weighs about 400 lbs. It’s nice to be able to grab the camera out of my pocket real quick- and not have to lug around the entire stock of B&H Photo when we’re out in the middle of the woods and already trying to wrangle two insane canines (yes, I’m talking to you, M&H!).

It has an “Easy” mode, which basically means all I have to do is turn it on and press the button. Ahhh. :)

My sweet Howie and his reflection.

On Saturday, we lounged. We opened the windows, shared the recliner and watched The Breakfast Club.

And ate spicy nacho popcorn.

How was your weekend?

It snowed on the 12th here in South Georgia too (1st time in over 20 years, I might add) and then high 60s this past weekend. Was sooooo glad to have some REAL Georgia winter weather! LOL!

Katie February 22, 2010 at 8:53 am

Your weekend sounds wonderful!

We got about half a foot of snow, in Chicago. Send Spring my way. :)

Kim @ BlueGrass and GreenTomatoes February 22, 2010 at 8:55 am

You and your hubby are too cute… Sharing a recliner? I love it!

I was looking at buying a new (small, carry in my purse camera), and I’m grateful that you shared what you carry!

Have a wonderful day, my dear.

Andrea Swenson February 22, 2010 at 8:55 am

You take amazing photos. I love that you were able to make those look so great with just a small throw in your bag kind of camera.

Lori Allberry February 22, 2010 at 9:01 am

Oh Amanda, I just absolutely ♥love♥ your blog! =) I look forward to each and every post!

I can’t believe those pictures were taken with a point and shoot, they definitely appear to be taken from a DSL!

Thank You for sharing!

We finally got a break from the 7 inches of snow from last weekend which was beautiful coming down. This weekend we watched the sun peak out and melt some of the snow. Your photos are awesome. Thanks for sharing. :()

Hi Kevin and Amanda,
Looks like you had a fab weekend. We live at Cedar Creek Lake in East Texas. A far cry from my Southern California upbringing, but we love it. It is relaxing to get out near water and nature. Your photos are fantastic! Just amazing work. I love, love Howie. He is just too cute. Love you site. Enjoy reading you guys.

Great pics.

Elayne February 22, 2010 at 11:11 am

Love your blog and photography! I have family who live in Madison, Al. and they love to hike and be outdoors. I know you live near there and I wanted to show them your photos and be able to tell them where this “nature trail” is located…maybe they would want to check it out! Could you email me or just put more info on your blog about where it is?

Jenny Flake February 22, 2010 at 11:28 am

What a fun weekend Amanda! Love all those photos, your dog is too cute!

Tabitha Lehman February 22, 2010 at 11:34 am

My weekend was beautiful, too… although being in AZ, we were STILL colder than you!

OH, Amanda! Wanted to let you know that my blog is updated thanks to your Blog Design Giveaway! Check it out!! And Thank You Again!

Geneva February 22, 2010 at 11:36 am

Love the pictures and glad to see Howie and Miley! We live in Northern California and on Saturday it was beautiful, high 50’s. I too wore cargo’s and sandles, woke up to 18″ of snow on Sunday. Our 2 Boston’s, (both 1) did not not know what to think of the changing of the weather, but they endured it with play time in the snow for just a short while. Made your 3 Cheese Manacotti for the first time Sunday and it was awesome.
Thanks for sharing your weekend.

Julie Bogart February 22, 2010 at 11:37 am

I am so envious of you sunny weekend. Where we are we had yet another ice/snow storm this weekend. I like snow – but I am getting tired of it. SO time to think of the good thing about cold/snow. #1 Scarves – wear one everyday this time of year. #2 – too cold to do anything outside so GIRLS SHOPPING DAY took place. Three new pair of shoes, 1 dress, 1 scarf, 1 skirt and 2 sweaters. ALL on sale! Have a great week!

Gretchen February 22, 2010 at 11:38 am

It is always such a pleasure reading your blog Amanda! I had been looking for the perfect digital camera for my husbands birthday and appreciate you sharing about yours!
Blessings to you!!

Gretchen February 22, 2010 at 11:40 am

PS – how do you make spicy nacho popcorn? Sounds yummy!

Gail B February 22, 2010 at 11:46 am

Looks like a beautiful weekend! It snowed here Saturday and Sunday LOL. And I’m only one state away from you… go figure

Gail B February 22, 2010 at 11:50 am

Ooops. I was thinking you were in CA with all the sun LOL. I’m in Nevada and way much further then I thought :)

Julie February 22, 2010 at 1:00 pm

Love the pics, thanks for sharing! The weather here was beautiful as well. We had snow the previous weekend also.

Emily L. February 22, 2010 at 1:22 pm

Tara February 22, 2010 at 2:21 pm

It was pretty, wasn’t it! Gotta love weather here!
We had movie night Friday and actually let the kids outdoors for a while Saturday. I am hungry for Spring!
Have a great week!

Yvette February 22, 2010 at 3:42 pm

………what can I say? I just simply love your blog and ALL that you have shared with your audience. I don’t have another blog to compare it too……AND I really don’t want to. Yours is enough for me: entertaining, educational , inspiring, uplifting, pretty, etc…

Enjoy your day! Yvette

ps If you had time, I would ask if you can send me your instructions on how to start a blog, or a family website. One day I will take the time to learn these things. You seem to make it look so easy. Again thanks for sharing.

Janine February 22, 2010 at 3:58 pm

Loved these pictures! We had a warm weekend here in Kentucky too and now I am wanting Spring to hurry and get here!

Carolyn February 22, 2010 at 4:06 pm

This is the second weekend in a row now that I feel very jealous of you! But in a totally-happy-for-you and glad-it-was-awesome kind of way. :) Thanks for sharing all about it!

Southern Gal February 22, 2010 at 5:38 pm

Same as you. Snow last weekend. This weekend – Gorgeous! We had a Star Wars birthday party for my youngest who turned 8. It was a blast and the weather was perfect. I spent Friday night/Saturday morning sewing him a Jedi cape with hood. I think this will be one of his fondest memories as far as birthday parties go. So much fun.

Diane February 22, 2010 at 6:24 pm

Always waiting to find out what you have been up to and the yummy recipes!!! My most favorite is Miley & Howie, though! We have a Boster Terrior named Jack. He is 13 now and very sick. He is not in any pain, though! We are just trying to hang in there with him day by day!!! He is my little buddy and it is just heart wrenching to think he will be in doggy heaven soon.:( So please keep sending the wonderful pictures of M & H, they are much appreciated!!!

Elizabeth February 22, 2010 at 8:23 pm

I am so jealous of your nice weather! Those pictures are gorgeous. I can’t wait until it gets warm again.

Lori H. February 22, 2010 at 11:00 pm

It’s so nice to see Miley and Howie enjoying the sunshine and beautiful scenery! Great pictures Mandy!

MerriMac February 23, 2010 at 5:42 am

Absolutely beautiful photos, how lucky you are to experience these wonderful places:)

michiganhill February 23, 2010 at 6:09 am

You are making me soooo homesick for ALABAMA. I remember those late Feb. days, when it would warm up and spring would start making it’s appearance. The Summit was less than 5 miles from my house and The Cheesecake Factory is my absolute fave. We don’t have a Cheesecake Factory in Michigan and we just got 8 inches of snow yesterday. Just remember to fully enjoy your lovely southern weather.

Laura February 23, 2010 at 5:40 pm

68 degrees?!?!?!? JEALOUS…absolutely JEALOUS!!!! I LOVE the snow and all and we usually have some this time of year, however, it has been beautiful sunshine days with freezing cold temps! Mother Nature teases us so!
Glad you all had fun though :)

emily February 23, 2010 at 6:04 pm

i have been reading your tutorial on uploading cute fonts to my blog. i love how detailed you are in every step. i’m hoping you have a min to help me through what i’m missing.

every single step has been completed and i have tripple checked for typos, none. i have tried a few different fonts just to be sure it is not one specific font not working. this is how they read when i load them onto my account, peakadee.swf, peajackandjane.swf and a few others. i only uploaded one at a time with the addtional 4 files. it wouldn’t allow me to copy the file so i wrote it down and replaced so it looks as so no typos. any help? it is applied now to my blog and the titles, date and side bars are just blank. i looked through all the FAQ common problems and tried all. the only one i’m not sure about is having the index.htm. is that supposed to be on too. it is i just wasn’t sure because it wasn’t listed in the FAQ common problems where it says “You should have at least 4 files: blogger-sifr.js, sifr.css, sifr.js, and your SWF font file. If even one is missing, the whole thing won’t work” i am also not sure about the Blogger Minima template. don’t know if mine is or isn’t.

check mine out. i’m sure it is something so stupid and little that is not letting it work. your detailed eye will probably catch it right away.

your help would be so very appreciated!!

thanks- em

Anne February 23, 2010 at 9:02 pm

I love your pics! I love those pups and I love your camera!

Trinity February 24, 2010 at 8:13 pm

OK maybe I’m going crazy but I could swear I just saw one of your fonts on a food network commercial. What’s up with that?

Jenn :) February 25, 2010 at 2:54 pm

GREAT photos!! Love the two with the sun rays coming down :)

Ugh…the weather here in Nashville has been nuts too…snowing one weekend, then sunny and warm a few days after! We haven’t had so much snow before…at least not in the 10 years I have been here…it’s been fun to see though :)

Joni H March 2, 2010 at 1:29 am

wow, your pics taken with a point & shoot camera is amazing! I have a Canon which I love, but, heck, my shots don’t come anywhere near as beautiful as yours. Is there a secret? Composition, lighting? I love photography, but, am terrible at it. love your blog….aloha!
