Why I Love My Vacuum Cleaner (Giveaway!)

Neato Robot Vacuum Cleaner Review

This is our new robot helper around the house, whom we’ve affectionately named Mr. MagNeato. He’s the Neato XV-21 Robot Vacuum cleaner, and he sucks up dirt and dust like a magnet! We added the Boston Terrier sticker ourselves, but personally I think they should come standard. Don’t you? ;)

Neato Robot Vacuum Cleaner Review

1. Vacuum Lines.

Nothing brightens up a room like vacuum lines! I love the Neato because it doesn’t just bounce around the house haphazardly. It uses a laser to scan the room first and map the best, most efficient route before getting to work. The route changes every time it vacuums, so it’s sure to hit every nook and cranny. The Neato knows where it’s been and where it hasn’t, so it won’t miss a spot. As it vacuums, the sensor continues to scan, enabling the robot to navigate furniture, walls, stairs or Miley and Howie.

Neato Robot Vacuum Cleaner Review

2. Powerful

The Neato XV-21 is specially designed for pet owners and allergy sufferers. I am amazed at how powerful the suction is! It doesn’t just push trash on the floor around. It picks it up! I was afraid it wouldn’t work as well as a regular vacuum cleaner, but I am amazed at how clean our carpets look. We did the old vacuum comparison test: We first vacuumed with our regular vacuum cleaner, then set the Neato to work while we put our feet up and relaxed. Look at what all the Neato picked up that our other vacuum left behind! This little compartment needs to be emptied after every use, but it’s so easy to just grab it and dump the dirt in the trash — so much easier than large, fumbly canisters or bags, and you know you’re starting with a clean slate before every single vacuum.

Neato Robot Vacuum Cleaner Review

3. Schedule

You can schedule the Neato to vacuum for you whenever you want — when you’re at work, at the grocery store, or even while you sleep. Put your feet up and relax while Neato does the work! :) (He is just as loud as a regular vacuum cleaner though, so we don’t generally run him while we’re watching TV. :)) Last minute company coming over? Let Neato do the floors while you take care of the bathrooms. He works great on my tile floor as well! Neato can easily maneuver small obstacles such as rugs and door frames, so no need to “babysit” him. I have our Neato scheduled to run at night while we sleep, so we wake up to freshly vacuumed carpets in the morning.

My floors actually look like this all the time now, and all I have to do is press a button!

4. Value

The Neato XV-21 retails for $429.99. I kind of balked at the price at first, until I thought about it. There are several other extremely popular vacuum cleaners on the market right now that retail for upwards of $500-$600. And they don’t do the vacuuming for you! With the Neato, you don’t have to haul out a heavy machine. You don’t have to push it around every single room in your house. You don’t have to wind up the cord and put it away.

The only vacuuming work you’ll ever do from now is press a button.

Oh this is funny…….I’m an entrance person……..and then straight to the bathroom. To clean it, pleezzzzzzz..

404
Debra D. August 24, 2012 at 8:12 am

Always start with the floors, usually in the living room and hallways. We have a large dog that sheds like crazy! Even though he doesn’t roam the house, stays mainly by the kitchen and back of the living room, that light-weight hair just drifts everywhere! But, the extra work doesn’t matter because we get tons of love and devotion in return!

405
Maria Trader August 24, 2012 at 8:12 am

I usually clean off the kitchen counters first then vacuum second.

406
Sherry August 24, 2012 at 8:12 am

Under the kitchen table…my boys are MESSY!!!

407
Melissa roberts August 24, 2012 at 8:13 am

The liter box. It’s not a very welcoming smell if not clean. That vacuum would really be handy with two cats in the house.

408
Dana August 24, 2012 at 8:13 am

gahhh i am jonesing for one of those robot vacuums!!! most definitely my living room : )

409
Sharon August 24, 2012 at 8:13 am

Kitchen

410
Patty August 24, 2012 at 8:14 am

Silly me….I chose dark flooring because I thought it wouldn’t show dirt/dust/pet hair as quickly! WRONG! After I throw stuff that’s lying around in the closet, under the beds, etc., I get to my living room & foyer to straighten up! Unless you’re a back door friend, then…you’re used to it! You’re not “company”. Just pull up a seat, after you move dog toys & magazines!

411
Sonnet Bee August 24, 2012 at 8:14 am

the first thing i clean is my kitchen and then vacuum, because i have a big long-haired black cat! with that adorable vacuum, i could just set it to go, clean the kitchen AND the bathroom with time to spare. what a lifesaver!

412
Lexy of BeautyFash August 24, 2012 at 8:14 am

The first thing I clean is the bathroom! With 2 kiddies, the bathroom ALWAYS require a good wipe-down. And I like to have it sparkling for company.

413
Angela House August 24, 2012 at 8:15 am

So want this! I have such a hard time vacuuming with 3 little ones running around (and one on the way). This would help so much!

414
Teresa August 24, 2012 at 8:15 am

Bathrooms!! Bathroom must be spotless FIRST. :)

415
Wanda Cullen August 24, 2012 at 8:15 am

Our kitchen/dining room/family room are all one large open area, so that’s what gets cleaned first when company comes. Would love to have this robot vacuum…many thanks for the chance to win!

416
brooke August 24, 2012 at 8:16 am

Wow, this vacuum looks fantastic! The first thing I do is pick up the random toys/junk in the living room. Then I vacuum if I have time!

417
Elissa August 24, 2012 at 8:17 am

We always clean the living room first when company is coming over, since it’s the most used room. With 2 cats and a 1 year old, I love this giveaway : ) thanks!

418
Mina August 24, 2012 at 8:17 am

the living room/dining area. it gets so cluttered and disorganized, and needs a really good shaping up before guests arrive. then i’ll do the kitchen after cooking, and the bathroom.

419
Allison Troyer August 24, 2012 at 8:17 am

Ooh my goodness! We just got a new puppy and I have to vacuum all the time it feels like!! How nice it would be to schedule it at night and do all the work for me while I sleep!

420
Amy Owen August 24, 2012 at 8:17 am

Dog hair off the floors, so I would love it!

421
Laura L August 24, 2012 at 8:17 am

Where do I start? I usually have to wipe down the bathroom, pick up the kitchen counter and all the kids’ toys from the living room floor. Anything else company can just deal with ;)

422
Debbie August 24, 2012 at 8:18 am

The kitchen first – it’s always the first to get cluttered.

423
Larissa August 24, 2012 at 8:19 am

First straighten up the kitchen – dishes to the dishwasher, pick up the shoes…etc. That’s my entryway. Then on to the bathroom downstairs and the living room. This looks like the most amazing vacuum! My husband hates when the floor is dusty/crumby from us and the kids. If I had a Neato, I could program it to vacuum while we are at work/school and we’d come home to a fresh floor every day! Then, while making dinner, I’d set it to do the upstairs. I need a Neato!!
Thanks for the review and the contest!!

424
Nicole @ Life's a Beach August 24, 2012 at 8:19 am

This is awesome. My friends have something similar to this. I generally vacuum my kitchen to get the crumbs up :) Then vacuum my living room after everyone leaves.

425
Danielle August 24, 2012 at 8:19 am

It is always the kitchen then the living room. Vacuuming is a necessity, since I have a Great Dane! Hope I win. :)

426
Kathi Bates August 24, 2012 at 8:20 am

I get out the swiffer and swiff away. I have a wonderful pet named Rudy who sheds a lot so I am constantly trying to keep ahead of dog hair collecting everywhere. We are now the grandparents for the first time and this is so important to me for several reasons: her health and soon she will be crawling. I want a safe, healthy environment for her. Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to your posts!

427
JoyH August 24, 2012 at 8:20 am

The bathroom – with 3 little kids it always needs to be cleaned!

428
Lisa August 24, 2012 at 8:20 am

I clean up the clutter that’s in the living room especially all the shoes that get left at the front door.

429
Lisa Y. August 24, 2012 at 8:21 am

Definately the bathrooms and the kitchen. Wonder how this works on kitchen floors too? Thanks for the opportunity!

430
Deb Wisker August 24, 2012 at 8:21 am

how awesome! I’d love one!

431
Maggie August 24, 2012 at 8:22 am

The bathroom! I feel like that shows dirt and grime the worst.

432
Samantha C. August 24, 2012 at 8:22 am

It has to be definitely the floors and the sitting areas. I have a cat and he tends to shed a lot so this vacuum would be perfect for me to keep up with him shedding!

433
Andrea August 24, 2012 at 8:23 am

I head straight for the bathroom when I have people coming over. However living in a studio apartment pretty much means everything has to be clean or someone will see it!

434
Andrea F August 24, 2012 at 8:24 am

The dining room table. It can be seen from the front door and is the dropping ground for everything.

435
Meghan Comstock August 24, 2012 at 8:25 am

I clean the living room first. I vacuum and dust to make sure it is all in tip top shape as soon as they come in. First impressions are what always sticks in their minds. Plus our dog spends most of his time in our living room and I don’t want them to smell my dog before they even see him!!

436
Tami M. August 24, 2012 at 8:25 am

With 2 big dogs, the hardwood floor is always the first thing I clean, it seems like the dog hair is always floating around on the floor and gathering in the corners! What a fabulous giveaway, thanks for the chance to win!

437
Katie Dotson August 24, 2012 at 8:25 am

First thing I clean for sure is the floors! With a black lab in the house, a sweep/vacuum job makes the house look 10x better!

438
Suzanne August 24, 2012 at 8:26 am

I would LOVE this vacuum. (I’m assuming it can handle ceramic tile floors?) With two shedding dogs and people who are forever spilling crumbs in the kitchen this would be a godsend. If the floor was clean I might actually mop the floor more often! (Which is coincidentally the first thing I clean when people come over.) I have discovered that people actually hate it when their shoe sticks to the floor.

439
Amanda August 24, 2012 at 8:26 am

The first thing I always clean is the family room because that’s where we spend the most time!

440
Mindy M August 24, 2012 at 8:26 am

The den/great room. It’s the first place people hang.

441
Tonya August 24, 2012 at 8:27 am

The entryway, which is also the kids’ playroom. Always hoping that first impression lasts after company sees the clutter that is the rest of the house ;)

442
BArb August 24, 2012 at 8:28 am

I clean everything, I once saw some one write “Your house is never cleaner than 30 minutes before company arrives” something like that

443
Mallory Thompson August 24, 2012 at 8:28 am

WOULD LOVE TO WIN THIS!!!!! We have 2 big hairy dogs and this would be awesome!

444
Cara O. August 24, 2012 at 8:28 am

I clean the floors first, make the wood floors fur free! Then speed clean anything else that may need to be touched up.

445
sierra Hess August 24, 2012 at 8:28 am

I always clean the great room/kitchen area first! It’s the place where everyone hangs out so I need to have the kitchen counter clear and the pillows fluffed! Then I move to the bathroom. I use Norwex cleaning stuff and it makes it so easy! I would love to have this new vacuum to help me out, especially since we have a new baby on the way! I will need an extra hand!

446
Cary Jenkins August 24, 2012 at 8:29 am

Oh my, I really, really, really need this!! Usually do our big den since we are always in there and it’s the first room people see (besides the foyer). My whole house would love to meet
NEATO-XV-21!

447
Amy August 24, 2012 at 8:29 am

Look at all that hair…I think you sold me on this no work option!! Company coming means cleaning the kitchen because people only visit for my food ;)

448
Carol August 24, 2012 at 8:29 am

My vac just died as I was trying to get ready for company so the dustmop had to do the job, albeit badly. So a new one would be fantastic! Plus I wouldn’t have to research and dither over what to buy as a replacement. I do the kitchen floor first because it collects most of the obvious dirt, then the bathrooms.

I enjoy your blog. Keep up the fun!

449
Amy C August 24, 2012 at 8:29 am

I agree – the Boston Terrier sticker should be standard! :) Oh, and I usually clean up the bathroom -it’s not dirty, but I am a slob in my bathroom and I always have to put my makeup and hair products away!

450
Mia August 24, 2012 at 8:29 am

I dust!

451
Amanda August 24, 2012 at 8:30 am

I always clean the living room first…the room that is used most! I really want to win :)

452
Barbara W. August 24, 2012 at 8:30 am

I run the vacuum cleaner first!

453
Meghan B August 24, 2012 at 8:31 am

I NEVER enter contests but I must have this vacuum.

The first thing I do when preparing for guests is de-cluttering the kitchen counters; we always seem to congregate around the kitchen island with our friends and family. That goes a long way in making the house guest-ready!

454
Sher August 24, 2012 at 8:31 am

Neat vacuum! Kitchen, bathroom, and living room. Thanks for the giveaway!

455
Bonnie August 24, 2012 at 8:31 am

The first thing I clean for company is the living room to get as much pet hair up as possible. (It’s kind of embarrassing when you see fur on their behinds when they get up to leave!)

456
Kindra Hill August 24, 2012 at 8:32 am

I would love to win this vacuum. I have a Great Dane so I vacuum a lot! :)

I always clean my kitchen first. My kitchen and family room are one big room so it gets cluttered quite easily.

457
Michele August 24, 2012 at 8:32 am

I always make sure my bathrooms are clean. Next comes the floors and then the kitchen.
I love this little vacuum. How cool!

458
Jen August 24, 2012 at 8:32 am

I always pick up the shoes that seem to multiply by the front door….and then the kitchen counters, followed by the bathroom.

459
Julia Reffner August 24, 2012 at 8:32 am

I always clean the kitchen first. It always needs the most help.

460
LaLaLand August 24, 2012 at 8:32 am

Kitchen first, while hub’s cleans his hall bath.

461
Sheri August 24, 2012 at 8:32 am

With 4 cats and 2 dogs this little machine would sure come in handy! When guests are coming over the 1st thing we have to clean are our floors!

462
Amber August 24, 2012 at 8:32 am

The kitchen and the bathroom, giving them a nice clean fresh feel!

463
Teresa August 24, 2012 at 8:33 am

I think it is a mix of cleaning the bathroom/den/kitchen. You can never be too sure where everyone will want to hang out. So to be safe it is like trying to win a marathon in cleaning!! Good luck to everyone! Thanks for sharing a great prize!

464
Kim Miller August 24, 2012 at 8:33 am

I saw this in NY at BlogHer and wanted it! So cool! I always clean the kitchen first because this is where everyone seems to gather! Have a great weekend!

465
Christy August 24, 2012 at 8:33 am

The first thing I clean is the kitchen!

466
Lisa A August 24, 2012 at 8:33 am

I like to clean the kitchen first. This vacuum cleaner is amazing! I would love to win it for my mom!! It would really be a great help to her.

467
Bergen August 24, 2012 at 8:34 am

The bathroom! Then do a quick 2 minute run/pick up in the living/dining room. What a great giveaway!

468
Krista Smith August 24, 2012 at 8:34 am

I’ve seen one of these in action…they’re amazing!! The first thing I do when i know company is coming over is dust!

469
Dana Kaye August 24, 2012 at 8:35 am

I like to start in the kitchen!

470
Sarah August 24, 2012 at 8:35 am

The first thing I clean is my kitchen rug – where my dog is whenever I am in the kitchen (waiting for me to drop something and clean up) and his hair stays on there! Thanks!

471
Maria B August 24, 2012 at 8:35 am

The first thing I clean is the living room/kitchen (open to each other). I vacuum daily since I can’t stand anything on my floors so this powerful little thing would be fabulous to win. Thank you for the chance!

472
Evelyn R August 24, 2012 at 8:36 am

The first thing I do is pick up the random clutter like papers and mail that accumulate around the house. If the kitchen counters and tables are cleared off everything feels neater.

473
christian August 24, 2012 at 8:36 am

Whatever looks the worst! That could be any number of things at my house, but having something that can get the dog hair off the floors while I focus on another task would be awesome!

474
Sarah A August 24, 2012 at 8:36 am

I like to get the laundry started and clean the kitchen and the floors first.

475
Joy August 24, 2012 at 8:37 am

I clean my kitchen because that is where company enters first. Then it’s on to the family room and vacuuming, which I don’t enjoy ever.

476
Rachel G. August 24, 2012 at 8:37 am

For better or worse, I’m extremely OCD when it comes to cleaning, and once I start I get carried away and want everything to be clean. But typically, when people are coming over, I have to start with the kitchen counters and floor. Our house has a very open layout, and with outdoor light coming in from both sides, it’s impossible to miss dirt reflecting off the floors and counter tops, so that’s usually my first stop.

What a cool giveaway–I hope I win! :)

477
Audrey S August 24, 2012 at 8:38 am

No method to my madness. My central vac just broke, so I’m trying to keep the house clean with a shop vac. Not so much fun!

478
Joyce Y August 24, 2012 at 8:39 am

Normally I clean the bathrooms first BUT I am a cleaning maniac when we have company. My hubby says we have to have company every three months or so, so the house gets thoroughly cleaned and de cluttered. That is very true. I vacuum and dust a lot but tend to ignore the other things until company comes!!
I would love a robot vacuum, I could pick up my little piles of clutter while it takes care of my carpets ;)

479
Lissa August 24, 2012 at 8:39 am

i always declutter then vacume first when people come over. I think the floors being freshly cleaned and vacumed always makes the house seem much neater then it really is XD

480
Leah B August 24, 2012 at 8:39 am

The floors – two sheddy dogs and cat there is always fur somewhere! Keeping my fingers crossed – this would be a huge help.

481
Cheryl August 24, 2012 at 8:39 am

The kitchen or the bathroom!

482
traci ridaught August 24, 2012 at 8:39 am

I clean the bathrooms first. I’d love to win the vacumn. Thanks for the chance to win!

483
Marla August 24, 2012 at 8:40 am

The bathroom is first on my list.

484
Stephanie August 24, 2012 at 8:40 am

Um, can “the downstairs” be the first place as a whole? I have two big dogs (a Great Dane and a Mastiff) and while neither of them are terrible shedders, there’s a lot of dog and therefore a lot of hair. I would LOVE to come downstairs to vacuumed floors after I’ve spent a hard night catching those zzz’s.

485
Monica August 24, 2012 at 8:40 am

First thing I clean is the bathroom! Thanks for the giveaway opportunity Amanda!

486
Sara K.B. August 24, 2012 at 8:40 am

I clean the kitchen first, and then the bathrooms. Those two are essential.

487
Ellie A. August 24, 2012 at 8:40 am

This giveaway almost brought a tear to my eye because being a mama to 3 kids my vacuum get a super workout. The living room is where my kids spend most of their time & our carpets get a beating. To be able to have the floor done ( as I do it twice a day) while I tackle some other chore? OH it like hearing a choir sing! Thanks for the chance.

488
Michele August 24, 2012 at 8:41 am

My kitchen…then the bathrooms! Everything as fast as possible because we are messy and I’m sure company is already in the driveway!

489
Jessica August 24, 2012 at 8:41 am

The first thing I like to clean is the floors. The house just looks refreshed with clean floors and those vacuum lines! Awesome giveaway!

490
Allison August 24, 2012 at 8:41 am

Too funny! I am having company over tonight so the first thing I did was get out the vacuum and broom. I just sat down to take a quick break, checked your blog and saw your latest post. The vacuum looks amazing! With kids and pets, who wouldn’t love a little extra help?!
Thank you!!

491
Carol August 24, 2012 at 8:41 am

The first place I clean is the living room. My son, husband and dog track everything in. I would love to win a vacuum cleaner.

492
Lara August 24, 2012 at 8:41 am

Awesome giveaway…always start in bathroom and move out. Thanks!

493
Heather in Boise August 24, 2012 at 8:41 am

The kitchen-because that’s where everyone ends up!

494
Brittany J. August 24, 2012 at 8:42 am

The first thing I do before company is coming over is sweep/mop. Once the big part is done, I can hurry and dust and put everything back in order :)

495
Pat M. August 24, 2012 at 8:42 am

The first thing I clean up when guests are expected is my living room. That’s the room with the biggest area rug and it shows my Golden Retriever (Buddy’s) hair the most. He’s going through his shedding season big-time right now and the vaccum would be awesome! Thanks for the opportunity to win!

496
Laura August 24, 2012 at 8:43 am

I always clean the kitchen and bathrooms first!

497
Diane C. August 24, 2012 at 8:43 am

When company comes over, I always clean the living room first! First impressions, I guess! I would love this vacuum! Crossing my fingers!

498
Laura August 24, 2012 at 8:43 am

Before I even start cleaning I light a great smelling candle and turn on some great music. This way if guests show up before I’m done cleanin the house already smells great and the atmosphere is fun.

499
Doreen August 24, 2012 at 8:44 am

This awesome! I would love this. Your floors get vacumned while you are doing other things! Love it! Thanks for the opportunity!

500
liz August 24, 2012 at 8:44 am

Well, I only get my cleaning done right before company comes over. haha

I always vacuum the kitchen first- the dirtiest place in my house. I guess that means I am a messy cook!

Yeah… I am.

But I love the kitchen- it is where I have all my friends and family gathered. So cleaning up pays off with lots of laughter.

501
Andi T. August 24, 2012 at 8:45 am

I typically clean the kitchen before company comes. Then, I sweep the floors :) This would make getting rid of dog hair so much easier :)

502
Mark Willoughby August 24, 2012 at 8:45 am

The first thing I always hit is counter tops and tables unfortunatly they are junk collectors in my house :(
