Why I Love My Vacuum Cleaner (Giveaway!)

Neato Robot Vacuum Cleaner Review

This is our new robot helper around the house, whom we’ve affectionately named Mr. MagNeato. He’s the Neato XV-21 Robot Vacuum cleaner, and he sucks up dirt and dust like a magnet! We added the Boston Terrier sticker ourselves, but personally I think they should come standard. Don’t you? ;)

Neato Robot Vacuum Cleaner Review

1. Vacuum Lines.

Nothing brightens up a room like vacuum lines! I love the Neato because it doesn’t just bounce around the house haphazardly. It uses a laser to scan the room first and map the best, most efficient route before getting to work. The route changes every time it vacuums, so it’s sure to hit every nook and cranny. The Neato knows where it’s been and where it hasn’t, so it won’t miss a spot. As it vacuums, the sensor continues to scan, enabling the robot to navigate furniture, walls, stairs or Miley and Howie.

2. Powerful

The Neato XV-21 is specially designed for pet owners and allergy sufferers. I am amazed at how powerful the suction is! It doesn’t just push trash on the floor around. It picks it up! I was afraid it wouldn’t work as well as a regular vacuum cleaner, but I am amazed at how clean our carpets look. We did the old vacuum comparison test: We first vacuumed with our regular vacuum cleaner, then set the Neato to work while we put our feet up and relaxed. Look at what all the Neato picked up that our other vacuum left behind! This little compartment needs to be emptied after every use, but it’s so easy to just grab it and dump the dirt in the trash — so much easier than large, fumbly canisters or bags, and you know you’re starting with a clean slate before every single vacuum.

Neato Robot Vacuum Cleaner Review

3. Schedule

You can schedule the Neato to vacuum for you whenever you want — when you’re at work, at the grocery store, or even while you sleep. Put your feet up and relax while Neato does the work! :) (He is just as loud as a regular vacuum cleaner though, so we don’t generally run him while we’re watching TV. :)) Last minute company coming over? Let Neato do the floors while you take care of the bathrooms. He works great on my tile floor as well! Neato can easily maneuver small obstacles such as rugs and door frames, so no need to “babysit” him. I have our Neato scheduled to run at night while we sleep, so we wake up to freshly vacuumed carpets in the morning.

My floors actually look like this all the time now, and all I have to do is press a button!

4. Value

The Neato XV-21 retails for $429.99. I kind of balked at the price at first, until I thought about it. There are several other extremely popular vacuum cleaners on the market right now that retail for upwards of $500-$600. And they don’t do the vacuuming for you! With the Neato, you don’t have to haul out a heavy machine. You don’t have to push it around every single room in your house. You don’t have to wind up the cord and put it away.

The only vacuuming work you’ll ever do from now is press a button.

I have two Siberian Huskies and I vacuum at least twice a day! This would be really cool to own as I’d be able to vacuum when I’m not home! Thanks for the opportunity to win!

karen August 24, 2012 at 5:22 am

I always start at the front of the house and work my way back, although sometimes i regret that decision when i have a limited amount of cleaning time, as the kitchen/bathroom are the last rooms on the list, and sometimes i run out of time to dedicate to them.

Mindy Grant August 24, 2012 at 5:22 am

Awesome vacuum cleaner, thank you so much for the giveaway! When company is coming over, I run around the house like a mad woman, cleaning every place they will see – living room, kitchen, & bathroom. It would be so awesome to have a vacuum cleaning my floors while I do other stuff like wash dishes, etc. That would save me so much stress!

Mary Beth August 24, 2012 at 5:24 am

The bathroom is always first, everything else can get stuffed in the den! :)

Fresh August 24, 2012 at 5:25 am

O, please, let it be me. Great blog, guys! Best regards, all the way from Slovenia! :)

Jennifer August 24, 2012 at 5:25 am

I clean the Living Room 1st with the kitchen a close 2nd. I could SO use a little vacuum helper, LOL. Thanks for the giveaway.

Melanie August 24, 2012 at 5:28 am

I always clean up the clutter (including the cat toys that the cats have scattered around the house), then the kitchen, bathroom, and last is to vacuum (to pick up anything that fell before). Thanks for the giveaway!

Jan August 24, 2012 at 5:30 am

I always start cleaning in the kitchen, then the bathrooms. I have wanted a robot since I was a very little girl! Who would have thought I might actually get one?

Patti Smith August 24, 2012 at 5:31 am

The first thing I clean when unexpected company is on the way is the living room/den area bc it’s the first area of my house that people see when they enter our house. We have a German Shepherd and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel so there is ALWAYS dog hair to be found! I would love to give this Neato machine a whirl; I remember the old days of the Roomba vaccuums…my mother-in-law had one of those but I don’t think it was near as good of a machine as this one sounds!

Deirdre Watts August 24, 2012 at 5:33 am

The kitchen….first the countertop clutter, then the sink and then sweep the floor. Love this giveaway. Thank you!

Adrienne Seal August 24, 2012 at 5:33 am

Having 2 cats and a dog I usually get to work in my living room and a vacuum like that would be a wonderful time saver!

Janet August 24, 2012 at 5:33 am

My old vac is so heavy for me to carry up and down the stairs. This would be great and a time saver to boot.

Leigh Ann August 24, 2012 at 5:35 am

definitely the living room! first room everyone sees.

Rachel A. August 24, 2012 at 5:36 am

I usually do the dusting and wiping first then vacuum last!

Diana August 24, 2012 at 5:37 am

I pick up in the living room. awesome vacuum!

Carolyn August 24, 2012 at 5:39 am

My kitchen. This is where we all usually hang out.

rachel August 24, 2012 at 5:40 am

Definitely the bathroom first, then the kitchen. Love that vacuum…thanks for the chance to win!

Becky | Becky Bakes August 24, 2012 at 5:41 am

The living room floor…it’s usually scattered with toys!

Susan S. August 24, 2012 at 5:43 am

Hmmm – it would have to be the dust off things! I sweep and vacuum floors all the time but dusting not so much.

Susan August 24, 2012 at 5:43 am

I start with the family room because it is always the easiest and I can easily check it off the list.

Nicole G August 24, 2012 at 5:47 am

Gotta clean the bathroom when people are coming over! But I have carpet in that room too so a new vac would be nice. Thx for the chance – great giveaway!

marywithgarden August 24, 2012 at 5:48 am

Dust and the bathroom! I use orange oil to dust and it makes the house smell so good and clean.

Leslie August 24, 2012 at 5:48 am

I have a dog that’s blowing a coat right now, my husband and I both work, and two youngish kids that makes me think I NEED THIS!!!

Paula August 24, 2012 at 5:49 am

I always clean my cat box first, then clear off my table!

Jean Punt August 24, 2012 at 5:49 am

Boy could I use that! One of those ‘wish I had thought of that one’ ideas!

Donna August 24, 2012 at 5:49 am

My husband just said he wanted to research these. Thanks for the review and the awesome giveaway!! Keeping my fingers crossed that we win!!

katie August 24, 2012 at 5:49 am

I always go straight to the bathrooms. Thanks for the chance to win! I need this!

Kacey August 24, 2012 at 5:49 am

I always start with the kitchen! This would be a great multi-tasking tool tho, love it! P.s. you’re very lucky to have dogs who aren’t afraid of the vacuum!! :o)

Jennifer August 24, 2012 at 5:51 am

The first thing I clean when company is coming over, are the surfaces in the living room. I make sure the knitting, the books, the mail, and the dog toys have all found their ways back to where they belong. After that, of course, I’d vacuum!

Amy Cooper August 24, 2012 at 5:52 am

The first thing I clean when we have company coming over is the bathroom. It seems to stay clean longer than any other room, so it’s a good place to start. I always vacuum last, that way it looks fresh and inviting when someone comes in. Between the dog and the kids, it’s hard to stay that way :)

Angela Carter August 24, 2012 at 5:52 am

The first thing I clean when guest come over is the kitchen. Its the first room people generally congregate in in my house so I make sure everything is scrubbed and sparkling.

Shawn August 24, 2012 at 5:53 am

The floors and kitchen. We seem to hang out in the kitchen anyways.

Andie August 24, 2012 at 5:54 am

Oh, this looks awesome! I usually start cleaning the floors in the kitchen as that is where everybody comes in at. Having laminate floors and a big dog, there is always hair. This would be so awesome!

Beth S August 24, 2012 at 5:55 am

I always clean the living room first. Pick up any clutter and dog toys and put them away.

*christine* August 24, 2012 at 5:55 am

Ha! We always divide and conquer the vacuuming and a quick run through of the bathrooms!
And if there are dishes in the sink – and there ususally is – we have to do those quickly too.

I’d love if someone/something could vacuum while I sleep!

Kerry Lewarne August 24, 2012 at 5:55 am

I love this!!!!!! I always vacuum my living room first. My carpet needs to be replaced!!

Kim G August 24, 2012 at 5:56 am

Bathroom first, then kitchen, then living room.

Becky D. August 24, 2012 at 5:59 am

This would come in so handy with a child on the way! I’m sure my husband would think so as well. The first thing I clean when company is coming over is the rolling piles of black pet hair in every corner of the house! With 3 black pets it can easily be a daily task but we’ve given up until the weekend or when company comes over.

Karen Pelkey August 24, 2012 at 6:00 am

Wow, what a fantastic giveaway. My hole house is carpet and I would save so much time to have such a luxury item. More time for crafting and fun stuff. Good bye allergies. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful product.

Dawn Lepper August 24, 2012 at 6:00 am

I actually vacuum because I have a dog that is a major shedder. :)

Shannon August 24, 2012 at 6:01 am

Those puppies are soooo cute! I’d love to win a Neato so that I could gift it to my parents! My dad would love having something vacuum for him and I’d love for him to be able to get help this would provide…

Tina August 24, 2012 at 6:02 am

The first thing that I do is get a look of terror in my eyes, the kind that makes grown men (husband) and 6’3″ and 6’1″ teenage sons weak in their knees. Then comes the delegating of tasks- clean the powder room, quick pick up the stuff around the family room, living room, dining room and kitchen. Dust said rooms quickly with a little glove-like duster. Vacuum said rooms. Finally, clean the powder room and pray that the boys’ bathroom isn’t disgusting. Sometimes just a quick pickup and vacuuming is all that it takes to make a house look neat and tidy. Overall, though, I have learned that when people come to visit, they are there to see us and not the house, so I have gotten better about not having a coronary when someone drops in and I focus on totally enjoying my guests. Always good to have a nut roll or other baked good in the freezer for a quick thaw out just for those times!

Lindsay R August 24, 2012 at 6:03 am

usually the kitchen..always dishes piled up :)

Julie August 24, 2012 at 6:07 am

Definitely the bathrooms!

Cathy OConnell August 24, 2012 at 6:07 am

with two dogs, also, that spend most of their time in our family room, that is the carpet I am always vaccuming….but I can’t get to it everyday. This little machine would be a real treat for our family!!

Rachel August 24, 2012 at 6:10 am

After picking up things, the first thing I clean is the kitchen floor! Three kids and no pets makes for a very messy floor!

Roxanne August 24, 2012 at 6:11 am

Bathrooms first, dust, vacuum living room & stairs! I love the idea of Mr. MagNeato helping with more than half the chores! As always Amanda, thanks for your great blog (my favorite!) & awesome giveaways : )

barbara n August 24, 2012 at 6:12 am

The first thing I clean when company is coming over is the bathrooms!! I would be very embarrassed if the toilet bowl or sink were dirty!

Mindy August 24, 2012 at 6:12 am

The first place I clean when company comes is the bathrooms! I hate cleaning the bathrooms, so when we don’t have company, I don’t put too much work into them. So, that’s the first place I clean.

Edward August 24, 2012 at 6:14 am

I don’t clean (thank goodness for housekeeping). The foyer is my pet-peeve for visitors.

Em August 24, 2012 at 6:14 am

The entry hall.

Cretia August 24, 2012 at 6:14 am

bathroom, then den & kitchen…

Meg l. August 24, 2012 at 6:15 am

I have two furry dogs so I always vacuum and dust!

Solange August 24, 2012 at 6:15 am

The living room, where everyone gathers. Spouse never uses coasters!

Lauren @ Healthy Food For Living August 24, 2012 at 6:16 am

The absolute first thing I clean when company is coming over are the floors! I typically clean the kitchen as I cook, so that’s usually in pretty good shape. Having a cat and a dog leads to a ton of pet fur accumulation on the floors, and this vacuum would be a life-saver!

Heidi Gore August 24, 2012 at 6:16 am

When company is coming I start at the coffee table to clear the clutter, then sprint to the bathroom to make sure it is clean enough, then to the kitchen to tidy up and load the dishwasher or make a quick snack. This vacuum would be perfect as my back has degenerative disk disease and it is painful to lug my upright around. Would be thrilled to win!!

Kelly August 24, 2012 at 6:17 am

I go straight for the couch because my 125 lb. yellow lab thinks it his bed! He sheds so much I have to vacuum everyday, so the Neato XV-21 would change my life!!

Aidan Drew August 24, 2012 at 6:17 am

I just started ASU, and I think after a few months our dorm will certainly need this! I don’t like to clean, but I always make my bed.

adelle August 24, 2012 at 6:17 am

the bathroom is usually first…and then the kitchen floor. sometimes its hard to get to the vacuuming, so this would be awesome!

Talya August 24, 2012 at 6:18 am

I always clean whatever my guests will potentially see! Living room, kitchen, bathroom, FLOORS! With 2 dogs that shed like crazy, floors are my biggest concert and this would be a life saver!!

Aimee M August 24, 2012 at 6:18 am

We clean the kitchen first because that’s generally where we hang out when company is over!

Kelly August 24, 2012 at 6:19 am

Ohmygosh I would love one of those! I hate to vacuum! I don’t have any pets – it’s my kids that make the mess. So the first thing I’m usually cleaning before company arrives is the guest bathroom and the kitchen!

Karen August 24, 2012 at 6:20 am

The bathroom, of course … and then the living room, kitchen and it goes from there. I guess the next best thing to having a housekeeper would be having a vacuum that does the work itself! Love!

Lynne August 24, 2012 at 6:20 am

Kitchen – and bathroom

Katherine August 24, 2012 at 6:23 am

I always clean up the baby’s toys and straighten up the living room first. Thanks so much for the giveaway…I hate vacuuming!

Melissa August 24, 2012 at 6:23 am

Thank you.

Kate August 24, 2012 at 6:24 am

I start in the living room and leave the kitchen for last since it will get messed up getting ready anyway.

Hilly August 24, 2012 at 6:24 am

The Neato sounds angelic to me!!! I already envision it in action. I also think that your sticker should come one all of them.

We live on a farm and have a large garden, and it is so enjoyable to have people over to help eat up the harvest. Yet, most of the time, as they are leaving their homes, I am still chopping and stirring, and I find myself wishing that I had more time to clean up. Generally this thinking goes on while I am wildly pushing the vacuum around … mumbling little curses to the cats for their carefree bohemian lifestyles…and to my sneakers that just tracked dirt in when I went to get the basil as the tomatoes were bubbling. Meanwhile our guests are now driving up the driveway and I shove the by vacuum back in the closet, my “kitty voice” returns, I dim the lights and think, “Hey, the floor is clean, I love having people over!”

I am certain the Neato is made for someone like me. I am certain that I would be just as wild about it as you are. Can you run it all day long? LOL

Audra W. August 24, 2012 at 6:25 am

Bathroom first, then kitchen. Our short-hair wienie dog leaves so much hair it would great to let this take care of the floors while I do the rest. Awesome give-away!

Darlene August 24, 2012 at 6:25 am

The kitchen is where everyone usually gathers, so that is first!

Southern Gal August 24, 2012 at 6:28 am

Everyone enters our house through the back door which leads into the laundry room and kitchen. I hit those two rooms before any other.

Looks like a neat vacuum! thanks for the chance.

Erin Grizzard August 24, 2012 at 6:28 am

This thing sounds amazing! I actually got excited about it just reading your post! I always make sure to clean the window on my front door when company is coming….first impressions ;)

Jill Herington August 24, 2012 at 6:30 am

The living room and bathroom. Hope I win!

Krysta August 24, 2012 at 6:31 am

First thing I do is vacuum the floors…and the couch that our dog has made his own!

Sandy_in_MD August 24, 2012 at 6:32 am

Wow! That is one nifty vacumn cleaner! For me, it’s the bathroom that gets a quick touch up, then I move on to the family room.

Thanks for sponsoring this great giveaway.

Hannah August 24, 2012 at 6:33 am

Bathroom first! I have long hair and that’s where the shedding is the most obvious!

Heather K. August 24, 2012 at 6:33 am

How cool is that? We have two dogs & two dogs inside our home, so having something like this would be awesome. Oh, to answer your question: When company is coming, usually the first thing I do is start cleaning off our coffee table and dining table – they both tend to be used as catch-alls!

lori peuterbaugh August 24, 2012 at 6:33 am

we have been looking at these types of vacuums and haven’t taken the leap yet….thanks for the detailed reviews and testimonial. It looks like Howie & Miley like it also!!! Thanks for the giveaway! I am ready to start the neatly while I tidy the bathroom or make some treats when company is coming over! Thanks again Amanda!

Kimberly August 24, 2012 at 6:33 am

The first thing I clean is the bathroom since it’s the one my oldest son uses! Then I vacuum the living room, which honestly it needs to be vacuumed everyday with 2 young boys.

Thanks for such a great blog and for this great chance to win such a fantastic product.

Cindy August 24, 2012 at 6:33 am

I always start in the entryway and living room. Kitchen, hallway and bathroom come next. This vacuum would be so handy!

Krys Kolivras Simmons August 24, 2012 at 6:33 am

I always check the spare bathroom when I find out someone is coming to visit! I like it to be spotless and shiny!

Debbie Chapman August 24, 2012 at 6:34 am

WOW! I have been looking at one these for years but have never seen one put lines in the carpet. You have me sold! Thank you for the chance to win one!

Debbie August 24, 2012 at 6:34 am

Wow that vacuum really works great! I always wondered if they worked. I would be so happy to win this. We have a schnoodle “Lola” and it doesn’t seem like she shed much, but when I empty the vacuum, there is a lot of hair! Thanks for all of your wonderful ideas, recipes and pictures.

Chris Taylor August 24, 2012 at 6:34 am

My brain is cleaning the house even when I’m not home; it’s nice to know that I could actually get some work done, even if ‘all’ of me isn’t there! Glad to know it picks up pet hair.

Kallie August 24, 2012 at 6:36 am

The living room! Always vacuum because of the dog hair!

April Merrick August 24, 2012 at 6:36 am

The first thing we clean when company is coming over is all the toys and clutter that accumulates in our living room!

Sara August 24, 2012 at 6:37 am

I clean the bathroom and the floors. I agree with you about those lines… They always mean ‘clean’ to me too!!

Leah August 24, 2012 at 6:37 am

Countertops then the floors! Sweep, mop, vacuum…those are a must before I have anyone coming over. Maybe a little lemon scent fragrance in the air to top it all off!

Nikki August 24, 2012 at 6:37 am

We always clean rhe kitchen first.

C Zapolski August 24, 2012 at 6:39 am

The stairs off the foyer! The are carpeted in black and they show dog hair unless cleaned regularly. From there, I vacuum the foyer – that seems to collect dog hair as well.

mary August 24, 2012 at 6:39 am

This looks fabulous! Vacuum while i’m sleeping sounds perfect!
My first clean-up is the front hall – shoes are all over and the table collects all sorts of junk. It’s a quick clean and instant gratification.
Thanks for this fantastic opportunity.
Love your blog!

Fernie August 24, 2012 at 6:40 am

Floors first, then Sofa gotta get the doggie hair off. Bathrooms and then the kitchen ( it is always clean, so that is why it is last) Not that I dont cook.. but I am always cleaning up after I cook.

Melissa B August 24, 2012 at 6:40 am

The carpet with it’s husky/Shepard fur, then on to the kitchen!

Jen R August 24, 2012 at 6:42 am

I clean the living room first. Bathroom and kitchen come next. This is an incredible giveaway, I don’t think I have ever wanted to win anything as much as this! It’s so cool, like a little robot or something. Thanks for the chance!

lisa August 24, 2012 at 6:44 am

I would say the living room. Picking up stuff that Ive been lazy about haha

Valerie August 24, 2012 at 6:44 am

I clean the bathroom first and then sweep everything. I would love to win this for my elderly mother. She would love it!

CindyML August 24, 2012 at 6:44 am

the first thing I clean when company comes over is I swiffered up the dog hair from my wood floors. We have dark wood floors and two dogs and a German shepherd dog that comes on playdates several times a week. I can swiffer and 20 minutes later that hair just reappears – like it’s coming out of the woodwork! This would be a great gadget to have. Thanks for the chance to win!

RUTHANN August 24, 2012 at 6:45 am

The guest bathroom and the kitchen floors. thanks for the chance to win this great product!

Jessia M. August 24, 2012 at 6:45 am

I always clean the living room since that is the first place they see.

Great giveaway! Thanks!!!

Lisa August 24, 2012 at 6:46 am

The first thing I do before company come over is vacuum because we have 2 cats and a 2 year old who is always throwing her snacks or food on the floor. I vacuum almost every day, which is such a pain. This robot vacuum will be such a great thing to have. At home moms need a break sometimes. One less thing to do is always great.
