Why I Love My Vacuum Cleaner (Giveaway!)

Neato Robot Vacuum Cleaner Review

This is our new robot helper around the house, whom we’ve affectionately named Mr. MagNeato. He’s the Neato XV-21 Robot Vacuum cleaner, and he sucks up dirt and dust like a magnet! We added the Boston Terrier sticker ourselves, but personally I think they should come standard. Don’t you? ;)

Neato Robot Vacuum Cleaner Review

1. Vacuum Lines.

Nothing brightens up a room like vacuum lines! I love the Neato because it doesn’t just bounce around the house haphazardly. It uses a laser to scan the room first and map the best, most efficient route before getting to work. The route changes every time it vacuums, so it’s sure to hit every nook and cranny. The Neato knows where it’s been and where it hasn’t, so it won’t miss a spot. As it vacuums, the sensor continues to scan, enabling the robot to navigate furniture, walls, stairs or Miley and Howie.

Neato Robot Vacuum Cleaner Review

2. Powerful

The Neato XV-21 is specially designed for pet owners and allergy sufferers. I am amazed at how powerful the suction is! It doesn’t just push trash on the floor around. It picks it up! I was afraid it wouldn’t work as well as a regular vacuum cleaner, but I am amazed at how clean our carpets look. We did the old vacuum comparison test: We first vacuumed with our regular vacuum cleaner, then set the Neato to work while we put our feet up and relaxed. Look at what all the Neato picked up that our other vacuum left behind! This little compartment needs to be emptied after every use, but it’s so easy to just grab it and dump the dirt in the trash — so much easier than large, fumbly canisters or bags, and you know you’re starting with a clean slate before every single vacuum.

Neato Robot Vacuum Cleaner Review

3. Schedule

You can schedule the Neato to vacuum for you whenever you want — when you’re at work, at the grocery store, or even while you sleep. Put your feet up and relax while Neato does the work! :) (He is just as loud as a regular vacuum cleaner though, so we don’t generally run him while we’re watching TV. :)) Last minute company coming over? Let Neato do the floors while you take care of the bathrooms. He works great on my tile floor as well! Neato can easily maneuver small obstacles such as rugs and door frames, so no need to “babysit” him. I have our Neato scheduled to run at night while we sleep, so we wake up to freshly vacuumed carpets in the morning.

My floors actually look like this all the time now, and all I have to do is press a button!

4. Value

The Neato XV-21 retails for $429.99. I kind of balked at the price at first, until I thought about it. There are several other extremely popular vacuum cleaners on the market right now that retail for upwards of $500-$600. And they don’t do the vacuuming for you! With the Neato, you don’t have to haul out a heavy machine. You don’t have to push it around every single room in your house. You don’t have to wind up the cord and put it away.

The only vacuuming work you’ll ever do from now is press a button.

Neato XV-21 on Amazon.

of course when company is coming you have to clean the bathroom, but I always feel like if my floors are clean the house looks clean. Thanks for giveaway

Lindsey August 24, 2012 at 1:33 am

I always clean the living room first…the room that is used most! Hope I win! :)

Casey August 24, 2012 at 2:01 am

I dust first so that I don’t have to clean the floor twice!haha

Candice S. in Colorado August 24, 2012 at 2:12 am

I hope this is the lucky post right here!!!!! LOL! This vacuum looks so cool and w/ two dogs and severe allergies, it sounds like it just might be what I need! I am a vacuum freak! I love to have a clean floor. I am almost obsessive about it!

The first thing I clean w/ I know we are having people over is: The Bathrooms! We have 3 and I just despise cleaning bathrooms, so I get that out of the way first. Same is true for weekly cleaning, the bathrooms are first. Just have to get them done. I always save my vacuuming for last. There is nothing better than having a clean house….then the vacuuming is like the icing on the cake. I know that sounds crazy, but remember, I am obsessive about having no lint or dog hair lying around!!

Thank you so much Amanda, you always have the coolest giveaways. I love learning about new stuff! I have purchased many things based on your recommendations, so thanks for keeping me informed on all the cool stuff!!!!!!

The kitchen! After all, it’s the heart of our home. :) They might have to sit on cat hair, but they’ll be fed in a sparkling clean kitchen/dining area.
Thanks for the giveaway!

Meagan August 24, 2012 at 2:14 am

I always start by cleaning up any clutter that is on counters, end tables, couches etc. I dust as I go so that by the time I am done I am ready to vacuum. I learned from my mom to leave the vacuuming for last so that the vacuum will pick up anything that might fall. I usually keep my bathrooms clean so I don’t need to do anything extra for company.

October August 24, 2012 at 2:15 am

It all depends on if they’re staying for dinner, the night, or what… But generally we go in this order… Floors, Bathroom, Kitchen… Then Guest Room. :)

Pamela Downing August 24, 2012 at 2:16 am

Whenever company is coming over the first thing I do is pick up all of my French Bulldog, Myrtle’s toys!

Maggie August 24, 2012 at 2:17 am

The first thing I clean is the living room….especially the floors. I have dogs, and it never fails that I have dog hair on the carpet…

Colleen Francis August 24, 2012 at 2:18 am

I tackle the front door shoe choas then i run for the bathrooms! w/ 2 teenage boys and a daughter! Oh my!

Rachel Elliott August 24, 2012 at 2:18 am

I vacuum the living room and also clean the bathroom.

Oh my goodness!!! I really hope I win!!!!! Really do!!!

Gayle August 24, 2012 at 2:18 am

The dog hair dust-bunnies from the kitch floor! Quickly followed by the doggie tounge marks on the stainless steel fridge door :)

Maria August 24, 2012 at 2:21 am

Its honestly between the bathroom and the kitchen. But I would learn more towards the kitchen because that’s where it needs to be cleaned all the time even without company coming. You have to make sure there are no dirty dishes on sink or left over food or anything on the kitchen table. The over has to look presentable. You can’t have a stove looking dirty. The floors have to be mopped. Honestly, I just feel embarrassed when he kitchen looks dirty especially when guests are coming.

Ashley August 24, 2012 at 2:23 am

I always clean the bathroom first!

Schmidty August 24, 2012 at 2:24 am

First thing is the bathrooms.

(Now how cool would it be to have those neat little marks on your carpet in those very uniformed little rows when you got home!?)

Ludmila Troutman August 24, 2012 at 2:25 am

The first thing I do is… to vacuum the whole house because we have a cat and 2 dogs and the floor is always full of pet hair of some sort. After having a baby 8 months ago, I have to vacuum even more often and it sure gets tiring. Would love to be the lucky winner of this lovely hard working machine! =) Ludmila

Tanya August 24, 2012 at 2:27 am

I always vacuum first! We have a lab and two kids, so I am always vacuuming! This would be awesome!!!

Leanne August 24, 2012 at 2:27 am

What a nifty idea, to have the vacuum run itself while I study would be AMAZING!!

ava August 24, 2012 at 2:29 am

Yeah, has to be the bathroom first…and then the sitting room…and the kitchen…and the yard. Drat, it’s a lotta work…so we just ask friends to meet up at a resto or bar, lol!:)

Dawn M. August 24, 2012 at 2:30 am

The floors are an absolute must when anyone comes over! Clean floors make everything else feel clean ! :) -Dawn

Marie August 24, 2012 at 2:34 am

The first thing I clean is probably the kitchen. A messy kitchen can make a whole house feel messy! Thank you for this giveaway! Love your personal review :)

elizabeth August 24, 2012 at 2:34 am

it’s a tie: the bathroom and living room!
living in a three story townhouse, I have been agonizing over vacuuming. my old upright does a great job, but after going up three flights of stairs lugging it, I’m pretty pooped! bought a second lightweight one, but it’s inadequate. this little gizmo would be just perfect for maintaining my multi storied house. it would be an easy carry up the stairs!!. plus it would give me B.T. another toy to chase around the house!

Caroline August 24, 2012 at 2:35 am

With my husband being in the Army, he is always inviting his buddies over on the weekends, to relax after the long week and to cook out. Most of these gatherings are impromptu, leaving me to clean our house rather quickly (with a 3 year old and 4 month old to keep occupied as well). If I can get the living room cleaned so everyone can sit down, and the bathroom presentable, I feel like I’m all set. However, with a dog who loves to roll around on the rug, and my 24-plus inches hair shedding everywhere, I feel like I spend most of that time vacuuming the living room. I would LOVE to have something that could keep the floor vacuumed without me even worrying about it!

Jesse J August 24, 2012 at 2:36 am

The first thing I clean are the floors and counters… and clear up all the clutter lol

Debbie Olson August 24, 2012 at 2:37 am

Hmmm, I think I clean the kitchen first and then the bathroom. If my 12-year old is home, the bathroom is his job, and I vacuum the family room. I would *love* a robotic helper!

jean August 24, 2012 at 2:37 am

the bathroom. a typical person could put up with a somewhat topsy turvy room and a little dust here and there but a dingy bathroom is a no-no…a social visit might suddenly become an undesired occurrence.

Andrea W August 24, 2012 at 2:40 am

I start with the living room first. I am almost fanatical about the lines in my carpet!! I have several cats and a giant Great Dane so I give my vacuum a run for it’s money. I hope I am lucky and win this awesome giveaway. It couldn’t be better timing since my vacuum has called it quits

Debbie August 24, 2012 at 2:41 am

The first thing I clean is the floors. Since I have a dog, I need to vacuum up the dog fur.

Kelly F. August 24, 2012 at 2:41 am

I have two Boston Terriers as well and the first thing I clean up when company comes over is all the dog toys they leave scattered all over the floors!

Tara Dawes August 24, 2012 at 2:41 am

kitchen because it’s really noticeable when you walk into my house, then the bathroom of course!

Ashley August 24, 2012 at 2:41 am

The first thing I do is pick up the clutter from the boys/bathroom. It just depends on what I feel is worse. I am a freak cleaner so the house is never dirty but sometimes not quite up to my standards.

Erin August 24, 2012 at 2:41 am

I clean the living room first, then head to the kitchen. I think the robotic vacuum looks amazing!

Kim August 24, 2012 at 2:43 am

OMGosh! With 4 dogs and 5 cats I think I would start in the living room and work my way to the family room. This would be so amazing to have help with all the animal hair. I have to vacuum every day to stay on top on the hair. I would love to win this!

colleen boudreau August 24, 2012 at 2:43 am

The living room.
holliister at gmail dot com

Anu August 24, 2012 at 2:44 am

Definitely the living room!

Amy Brock August 24, 2012 at 2:45 am

It depends on how much time I have–usually the liter box!!!

nikki August 24, 2012 at 2:48 am

The living room!

Zendi F. August 24, 2012 at 2:48 am

I dust, then vaccum the floors and clean the bathrooms.. Clean house happy guest.

Jill August 24, 2012 at 2:54 am

Oh my! Whether its for company or an ordinary house cleaning, they all begin and end the same way … removing fur from the carpet! Living with a 60# Chow Chow involves frequent vacuuming and still we seem to be losing the battle. Perhaps a better vacuum cleaner would give us a fighting chance? I would love to try the Neato XV-21 in my home.

Tamera Alexander August 24, 2012 at 2:56 am

First thing I clean? The kitchen rugs because they show everything! Then the one in the foyer, the living room, the keeping room, etc… Cool vacuum!

Freja August 24, 2012 at 2:57 am

I actually love to vaccum. It’s the first thing I’d prefer to do. I enjoy it. Mind you .. I usually have to remove all the hubby’s clothes from the floor first …

Amy F. August 24, 2012 at 2:59 am

I typically clean the kitchen and family room first and I’m obsessed with clean floors… I neeeeeeed this robot. So cool!!!

Jenah August 24, 2012 at 3:00 am

I literally start from the front door and make my way into the rest of the house;)

Ksenia August 24, 2012 at 3:00 am

When the company is coming over the first thing I clean… all surfaces in our living room. There is a tendency for mail and magazines to accumulate on coffee table and such, and less clutter always means tidier room!

Jenn K. August 24, 2012 at 3:03 am

I clean the mud room since it’s the room everyone enters through and we tend to just dump stuff there.

ES August 24, 2012 at 3:05 am

Two dogs (Maltese) and three cats (of questionable ancestry….). Need I say more? I have my work cut out for me keeping ahead of my tribe of fuzz-bunny makers. Sure hope this thing gets into corners!!!

Cristy August 24, 2012 at 3:09 am

I typically run the vacuum at the front entrance and wherever we’re going to be. :) With four kids, it floors can get pretty grubby! Bathrooms always get a touch up, too.

What a great giveaway! Thanks for the opportunity.

Debbie Wyler August 24, 2012 at 3:11 am

What a great giveaway! I would love to try it out! The first thing I clean when company is coming over is the bathroom.

Laura Graff August 24, 2012 at 3:13 am

I clear the clutter first, then focus on kitcen and bathroom.

carmel August 24, 2012 at 3:24 am

I always make sure my powder rooms are totally fresh!

Joy August 24, 2012 at 3:25 am

I usually start with the entry way to the house. After all, it is the entrance to the home, and sets the standard!

judy bruce August 24, 2012 at 3:27 am

either door you use to enter my house is the dining room and living room. i make sure they are top notch and then move to the bathroom down the hall.

Susanmcl August 24, 2012 at 3:31 am

I do the floors first – including vacuuming!

ellen August 24, 2012 at 3:34 am

first, I have to put away all the piles of papers that seem to accumulate on the counters. Then, the bathrooms!

Tarayn August 24, 2012 at 3:34 am

Always clean kitchen and living first!! Two most important rooms!

ileana August 24, 2012 at 3:35 am

What a “neato” giveaway!! Sounds like an amazing product – and i would love to win! The first thing I clean is the kitchen and family room. That’s where we tend to hang out. If the kitchen is clean, life feels good, right?

Thanks for the chance!

Farhah August 24, 2012 at 3:37 am

Living room :)

Karen F August 24, 2012 at 3:37 am

The first thing I clean is my kitchen – I would love to have a little robot cleaning the floors for me!

Nur August 24, 2012 at 3:38 am

Our dining/living room since they’re in the same area :)

Matt August 24, 2012 at 3:52 am

My wife is awesome at vaccuming :) haha .. but we are really good at working together and cleaning up 20 mins before people come around. Emergency clean!

Carol Bleich August 24, 2012 at 3:57 am

I usually dust first and then vacuum and then head for the kitchen! I’ve wondered how these things work! I have some wood floors too, would it clean up spilled food from my grandson too?
Thanks for the giveaway! Hope I win!

Grace K. August 24, 2012 at 4:02 am

Hi Amanda! Thank you for this opportunity! I clean the living room to make it bright and dust free ☆

Christle August 24, 2012 at 4:02 am

The first thing I clean when company is coming over are the dishes. There is nothing I hate more than company seeing dishes piled in my sink

Deanna August 24, 2012 at 4:07 am

Wow, this little machine would work wonders in my house! We have a 7 year old Boston Terrier that is constantly shedding and she leaves an amazing amount of hair everywhere…..Absolutely the first thing we do when company is coming over is grab the vacuum……and second comes the dusting! I would love to replace my Hoover but could never afford to spend more than $400 on a sweeper……and I would love to have such a cool little thing to help me out around the house…..thanks for the chance to win, Amanda. I’ve got my fingers crossed!

Glenda August 24, 2012 at 4:09 am

I clean the living room first, then on to the bath room. By the way, I have four Boston babies.

Barbara Noland August 24, 2012 at 4:13 am

My family room is top on the list. No matter how hard I try, my two dogs bring in debris from the yard. I have to pull out my vac everyday…this would be a charm!

Cassie B. August 24, 2012 at 4:15 am

The first thing that needs to be cleaned is usually the living room. There’s cat toys everywhere. There’s doggy hair. There’s cup rings on the glass tables. Honestly, it is usually messier than I’d like but a vacuum that does it for me would be a great change! Thanks for the giveaway!

Amanda August 24, 2012 at 4:17 am

Love the look of this! I always start in the living room- where my 95 lb Border Collie/ Bassett Hound sleeps. Lots of dog hair!

MaryAnn August 24, 2012 at 4:32 am

I could really use this! The living room is the first room I clean when company comes. It is the first room they see.

Carolyn L. August 24, 2012 at 4:33 am

We clean up all the extra papers and magazines strewn about the living and dining rooms.

Aissa August 24, 2012 at 4:38 am

I start with the livingroom. It’s the first place they see.
Then I do the bathroom. This vacuum look awesome.
I have 2 Cats and it would be a god send. Thanks so
Much for the chance.

Gretta August 24, 2012 at 4:38 am

Wow, what a vacuum! Great giveaway! I alsways start with the kitchen when company is coming over!

Pam August 24, 2012 at 4:39 am

Usually I am frantically trying to straighten up the kitchen desk top and the island top….it is usually piled with papers and “stuff” that seems to end up there when no one wants to put it in it’s regular spot or doesn’t have a spot. My husband would love to have this vacuum as he is the one who usually does the floors! Hope this is a winner!

mustlovedawgs August 24, 2012 at 4:40 am

Company coming? Dog and cat hair dancin’ on th rugs?
#1. Ignore hair. Clean off kitchen table and counters.
#2. Ignore hair. Wipe down bathroom.
#3. Still time? Hand pick-up visible clumps of said hair. :P

Love the pictures of your pups!

Lawrie H. August 24, 2012 at 4:42 am

I clean up the kitchen first, since that is where everyone always hangs out. Vacuuming is a close second because that makes the most visual impact. How cool would it be if I could do both at once!

Sue K August 24, 2012 at 4:47 am

Always the bathroom. I have 3 dogs so I’m constantly vacumming. Winning this would be a dream!

Harmony B August 24, 2012 at 4:48 am

I dont really clean one room first, I run around putting whatever I can away.

Kathy Miller August 24, 2012 at 4:48 am

This would be great since I have 3 dogs and vacuuming is what I hate most!

Kathy Miller August 24, 2012 at 4:51 am

But I would do the vacuuming first if company was coming as I always have plenty of hair around. LOL

Lisa F August 24, 2012 at 4:49 am

Bathrooms get cleaned first, assuming the living room and kitchen are already clean. Floors come last, but that’s an absolute necessity if company is a-coming!

Leslie S. M. August 24, 2012 at 4:53 am

Mmmmmm… waking up to delightful robotic vacuum cleaner lines. Like a dream come true.

Mindi Schatz August 24, 2012 at 4:55 am

I usually use a swiffer over the hardwood floors just before company comes over. I love how your pups always smile for the camera!

Pam H August 24, 2012 at 4:57 am

Wow, that looks awesome! First thing I do is make sure the kitchen looks and smells fresh.

Tiffany August 24, 2012 at 4:57 am

I need this! The first thing I clean is the living room, where we spend most time

Melanie Bebler August 24, 2012 at 5:01 am

I always vacuum the hardwood floors first, then clean the bathroom.

Katherine R. August 24, 2012 at 5:01 am

Hide clutter/clean bathrooom

kinj August 24, 2012 at 5:02 am

the living/dining room is the main part of our house so that has to be cleaned but also the bathroom has to be touched up too… fresh towel, check the tp etc… thanks for the giveaway

Ellen ♥ Cardmonkey August 24, 2012 at 5:02 am

OK, first things first — I NEED at NEAT-O, ’cause I’m not. When company is coming over (which is now rare because — well, see the first statement), I straighten the living room, which is combined with the dining room. But I CLEAN the bathroom, especially the toilet and sink. YUCK, I hate going into someone’s house and seeing gunk. Like at my house. Can you please get that robot cleaning lady like George Jetson had? I need one of those. Oh, one who can cook too. And push the button on my Neato.

Thank you for your honest review. Howie and Miley seem to approve too.

Ellen ♥ CardMonkey

Sarah M. August 24, 2012 at 5:02 am

First order of business is always vacuuming the oodles of cat hair in the house. If I don’t vacuum every day, it gets out of control. This robotic vacuum would be a lifesaver!

Becky August 24, 2012 at 5:06 am

My full bath always comes first, then my kitchen, dining room, and living room since you can see all 3 from the living room. This vacuum would be a great thing to win. My back is killing me when I get done running mine. My schnoodle dog would enjoy chasing it around too. Thanks for the chance to win. Hugs, Becky

chris August 24, 2012 at 5:07 am

I watch my grandchildren while my daughter is working so he first thing I would do is pick up all the clutter from the living room floor. (baby toys, books, puffs, crackers etc.) We are in need of a new sweeper. Ours is on its last legs and oh so heavy. This vacuum would be a blessing for this tired grandma.

Tobie H August 24, 2012 at 5:08 am

I clean the guest bathroom, vacuum the living room to remove cat hair and clean the kitchen. All essential.

Joan August 24, 2012 at 5:09 am

I always start with the kitchen. so this vacuum would be perfect…getting the rest of the house cleaned up!

Vicki mc August 24, 2012 at 5:13 am

The first place I head is the bathroom!!!

lMaHoneyBee August 24, 2012 at 5:16 am

That is SO AWESOME!!! I might have to get a mini-schnauzer sticker for mine.

Tracy O August 24, 2012 at 5:16 am

The bathrooms and kitchen. Especially the kitchen floor as it is an ancient mustard yellow lineolium that seems to attract dirt like it is going out of style. With 2 tweens (plus the neighborhood kids) of my own and 5 nieces and nephews ages 3 – 6, and a chocolate lab puppy in and out of my house constantly there is alot of dirt coming in. The vacuum would be a miracle worker for my mudroom though as the previous house owner thought it smart to put a rug down in the mudroom, we have yet to update that room and I just can’t keep up with the vacuuming schedule!

Thanks so much for the chance to win.

Ashley August 24, 2012 at 5:16 am

Hmmm, it’s a cross between the bathroom and the front hall.

Julie August 24, 2012 at 5:17 am

Whether or not company is coming, my floors get a daily vacuuming. In my opinion, when the floors aren’t clean the whole house looks dirty. I am so in to clean floors that all my visitors immediately say, “I would eat off your floors!” I am a vacuum queen and would love to welcome NEATO XV-21 into my home! What a great giveaway!

Diana August 24, 2012 at 5:18 am

I always clean the bathrooms first! I hate to vacuum so this is perfect! Thanks for the giveaway!

Bobbi Grant August 24, 2012 at 5:20 am

I would love one of these vacuum’s. We have only one dog but our dashing is long enough to be two. The first thing I touch up for company is great room and the on to the kitchen. Enjoy your blog and trips.

Kim August 24, 2012 at 5:21 am

The kitchen! It’s always a mess… But then it’s the foyer since its usually filled with dog hair and dirt/dust from bringing in the dog and whatever he tracks in
