{New House Tour} Kitchen Update

Stainless Steel KitchenAid Kitchen Makeover

Just thought I’d share a few quick pictures of the kitchen with you today! I don’t have much in the way of decorations yet, but we did update the existing black appliances to stainless steel KitchenAid appliances. Next I would love to add some fun pictures of some of the sweet treats I’ve photographed over the years, lol!

Before

Kitchen Makeover BEFORE with black appliances.

Here’s what it looked like before.

And here’s the after! This is seriously one of my favorite spots in the house now. Good thing because I spend a lot of time here, lol!

We replaced our smooth electric cooktop with KitchenAid’s 30-Inch 4-Burner Gas Rangetop. SO excited to be cooking with gas again! I grew up on gas, but basically learned how to cook on electric and have been cooking on electric for the past 12 years. It was a bit of an adjustment at first, but I got used to it much quicker than I thought and I love it now. Plus this range is just gorgeous! Every time I walk by I have to run my hand over it. :)

And here is the Steam-Assist Combination Microwave Wall Oven. Up top is a convection microwave that can also be used as a second convection oven — you can bake cookies, frozen pizza, even steam vegetables in it! It has easy presets so you can just choose the food you want to cook and it will it give you instructions on how to prepare the food and automatically adjust the time and heat settings to make sure your food comes out perfectly. It also has settings for melting and softening butter and the softened butter comes out perfect every time. It’s not like my old microwave which would give me a mostly-solid stick with some completely melted holes, lol!

On the bottom is a Steam-Assist convection oven. Convection helps speed cooking and cooks food more evenly. But usually you have to adjust the temperate and time yourself to cook with convection. But KitchenAid ovens have a unique EasyConvectâ„¢ Conversion System, so all you do is put in the regular time and temp, and it will automatically adjust the time and temp for you. My cookies come out perfect every single time. :)

The steam-assist is a really neat feature that cooks with steam. It keeps roasts juicy and cakes moist. Again, all you have to do are use the presets. You don’t have to figure out how to use it! :) There’s no learning curve here. :) I’ve found Steam-Assist is awesome for taco nights. I just roll up the tacos and place them in a baking pan, like enchiladas, and use the “vegetable” preset. The tacos come out impossibly soft and steaming!

And here’s a view looking the other way into the kitchen.

For the fridge, we went with a Counter-Depth Side-by-Side Refrigerator. Absolutely love that it is counter-depth. Our old refrigerator stuck out further and made that walkway in between the fridge and sink really cramped. I also love side-by-side fridges. Are you a side-by-side or freezer-on-bottom kinda fridge person?

And here is my favorite feature of this fridge!! It automatically fills a glass with water and stops automatically! You can change this amount to any number in ounces. Love knowing how much water I’m drinking throughout the day. And it’s perfect for my favorite waffle recipe (okay FINE it’s a mix!) which calls for 5 ounces of water.

Our old dishwasher was on its last leg. Hardly anything ever came clean, and we were having to hand wash or rewash most everything. When we upgraded to KitchenAid I was so excited to finally get a working dishwasher! This one comes with a neat top third rack for spoons, spatulas, and other utensils. Really opens up a ton of space for other things on the bottom two racks.

Hey! I am starting our research for our kitchen renovation and fell in love with your oven/microwave /steamer unit. I went and read the reviews from your link and was very surprised by the low reviews and reading about their problems with it. For the price, I would be so nervous about buying one. Have you had any issues with yours. Thanks, Cheryl

    1. Amanda

I have not had any issues with mine. I love it!! It is hands down my favorite appliance in the kitchen. Good luck with your decision!

  2. Carla

After several months, are you still liking your Kitchenaid appliances? We are getting ready to replace ours in a kitchen remodel and have looked at Kitchenaid, so would love your thoughts now.

  3. Nora

It’s always a joy to read your updates! I love your style and I’ve learned a lot.
Beautiful kitchen you have. I do have a question now. Where did you get the two lamps above the sink? They’re so pretty!

Such a gorgeous kitchen!! Love all of your choices, and completely jealous over your designated baking station! ;)

Amanda, the kitchen looks gorgeous! When we built our house a few years ago, I got a side by side refrigerator too and people thought I was crazy. After years of a french door, I just couldn’t stand it so I totally get it. Glad to see I’m not the only one! :)

I am in LOVE with those appliances. My favorite is the stove and the water line above it. I appreciated your description of the convection oven. In starting to plan for a new kitchen, I’ve contemplated going the convection route but didn’t know if it would be too hard to learn. Might have to look into it a little more now! :)

Side note–I’m feeling very stupid. How do I sign up for a commenting account so my avatar shows up? Thanks!

It is beautiful and I love the appliances! Plus, that water over the the stove is so cool. I bet it is really nice for boiling water for pasta! I have to look into that for the barn!

I’m super jealous of your beautiful new appliances! Your kitchen looks fab, I’m sure you’ll put it to good use! :)

  9. Kristin S

    That dishwasher tray is brilliant!

I’m sure there were some very happy people who received your old appliances. When I bought my first home 10 years ago, I received my range from a family who was upgrading to stainless and I happily received their working white one.

Didn’t know if I should leave a comment or do the cliqueme! I opted for the safer ‘comment’, lol. I LOVE your kitchen! Congratulations on having such a dream kitchen. Could you tell me what kind of faucet that is over your sink? I’ve been searching everywhere for one like that – nice and high and with the sprayer right on it! Thanks in advance!

  11. Susan

I LOVE all your new appliances, but the refrigerator and dishwasher take the cake! Thank you for sharing your home with us.

  12. Jennifer

Beautiful kitchen, it looks gorgeous :) I was wondering if you could recommend a good knife set? I saw the one on your counter and I have been looking for a good set but would love your opinion on which one to buy. Thanks!

  13. Hilda

Your kitchen is gorgeous! I’m envious that your counters are mostly clear. Is it always like that? Mine get filled with toaster, coffee machine, etc.

    1. Amanda

Unless they are piled with dirty dishes, lol. ;) I keep our toaster, Keurig, and KitchenAid stand-mixer out all the time, and I have a shelf in the pantry for the rest of the small appliances that I bring out when I need them. There’s also normally a paper towel holder right by the sink, but I put it under the sink for these pictures because it’s a little distracting. :)

  14. Carrie

Gorgeous! What color did you use in there?? On the walls?? I am looking for a nice calming neutral for my office space and I am having a hard time. It’s a small room but has a window. I wanted something that wasn’t too dark and really made a cozy space.
The color in there now was a bright yellow and it’s way too distracting.
You are always so good at those things!

  15. Stephanie

I love your new appliances! We are in desperate need of a new dishwasher…my house is only 2.5 years old, but the dishwasher is ridiculously bad at washing dishes! I love the KA dishwasher’s top rack for utensils! I used to have a Bosch at my old house and I loved it and was contemplating putting one in this house, but I might just be swayed to get a Kitchen Aid because of that top rack. I’m drooling over your microwave/oven combo too! I’m kicking myself for not putting in a second oven and I love the fact that the microwave doubles as a small convection oven! I grew up on a convection oven and loved that it cut down on cooking time. I wonder if I can convince my husband that we need that combo!?! :)

    1. Amanda

Yes! It’s perfect for us, because it’s not like we would need a double oven every day. But I love knowing it’s always there if we do it, and in the meantime I can use that space as a microwave! :)

  16. Gladys

I LOVE the gas range, Amanda. Does your home have a basement so that gas could be run for the range?

We bought a house in NC a couple of years ago and it has the electric smooth top range which I hate. We do not have a basement here – home is build on a slab.

  17. Sara

I bought that same dishwasher for my home a few months ago. It is super nice! My only issue with it is that since it doesn’t heat dry…a lot of my tuperware dishes come out still wet! But everything else is perfect! I don’t have to worry about things melting in my new dishwasher! I also LOVE the third shelf! It is so nice to have those long utensils out of the way of the bowls and cups!
    What’s your favorite feature?

    1. Amanda

Hi Sara! Does yours have the ProDry feature?

ProDryâ„¢ delivers the best drying with the addition of a fan that optimizes the performance of the recessed heating element.”

So it’s kinda like a convection oven for your dishwasher, lol! :) You can tell when it’s drying because the red light comes on during the ProDry cycle. The dishes are definitely hot and steamy if you open the dishwasher right after it finishes! :)

  18. Kim

It’s so beautiful! I have such a random question- what’s the yellow stuff in the jar in the baking station? Is it macaroni? Lol- I don’t know why I’m so curious. :)

Do you have a question or comment?
