What’s in My Kitchen

I’ve finally come to the conclusion that I may need to clean out and reorganize my kitchen. Check out what’s in my kitchen and let me know what your guilty pleasure food is!

What’s in My Kitchen

…That I might have a few too many boxes of cereal in my pantry.

Kitchen Pantry

Definitely too many spices.

Kitchen Pantry

A mild obsession with vanilla.

Kitchen Pantry

An extreme obsession with measuring spoons. They’re never usually this organized. I didn’t mean to straighten them. It just started happening. I can’t help myself.

Kitchen Pantry

More chocolate than one person should have so easily accessible. Including bars from Godiva, Lindt, Ghirardelli, Hershey’s, Cadbury, and Scharffen Berger. Godiva’s my personal favorite. I don’t recommend the Cadbury. Even though I’m a huge fan of the eggs.

Kitchen Pantry

And peanut butter that’s taking over and multiplying in the pantry. Including a homemade peanut butter I purchased at the farmer’s market, which tastes more like caramel. It’s perfect for dipping apples. And white chocolate pretzel peanut butter from Spread. Which I don’t recommend you purchase unless you want to eat the entire jar in one sitting.

I think I need a bigger pantry.

At least I know what to do with those last two: 46 Chocolate and Peanut Butter Desserts

P.S. Did you know there are some Photoshop actions out there that will replicate Instagram filters? Fun. I used them on some of these photos.

Instagram Photoshop Actions

P.P.S. Here’s how I did the “tilt-shift” blur in Photoshop. It’s one of my favorite features of Instagram! (Tip: Do this on your photos after you’ve already resized them for web)

Thanks for sharing the Instagram actions, I am on budget that doesn’t allow me to have an Iphone but I love the look of Instagram – so thanks so much for that.

I also agree with everyone out there Cadbury is so much better here (Australia) and in the UK. If you come to Australia you should also try Haighs chocolate, which is made in South Australia. The shop here in Sydney always has a line and at certain times in the year they have security on the door which only allows so many people in the shop at one time (like a nightclub) – it is so funny.

Thank you for the comment love and THANK YOU for posting the multiple fun-flavored spreads! I’m not even a peanut butter person (I like crunchy, but my pbj is always pbJ!) and I want to try the white chocolate pretzel peanut butter naughty temptress variety.

OH.Mygosh, is that for Real!? My fiancé and I just moved in together and I was very perplexed by his collection of bottle openers… guess that was small time. Ah ha

I am so glad that your pantry looks like mine. I get it somewhat organized them I turn around and it is all a mess again. Love Love Love the spoon collection.

Haha! I think most of us can relate to some obsessions. Mine would be similar for extracts, chocolates and nut butters. Love it, all of it :D

I LOVE your blog!! The photos of the pantry are amazing! I couldn’t help but notice the Vanilla collection!! I sell Watkins and they make the BEST vanilla – I didn’t see any of that in your collection!! Thanks for sharing your great ideas and wonderful photos!

I always have a bunch of cereal in the pantry too! Have you ever tried any of the Kashi cereals? Soo good. I’m also fond of the Cascadian Farms cereal. And they’re good for you :)

  8. Annie

I totally expected you to have this ultra organized cubbard! So glad to see you are just like the rest of us with a hodge podge and collection of EVERYTHING! Great post! LOVE LOVE LOVE all the measuring spoons. That might be something I neeed to collect because somehow I only seem to have the teaspoon set…the tablespoon set has up and left. It’s probably in the nearest toy box.

How did you get into my house?? Thanks for straightening up in there btw!! Is there a support group for pantry stockpilers?? I might need one….:)

  10. Zsa Zsa

Wow that’s a whole lotta cereal boxes, spices, measuring spoons and peanut butter! I think it’s great that your pantry is all stocked up — you’ll never run out of food or ideas for new things to try! :)

  11. Melissa

Here’s my deal with the cereal…why can’t they make small sample sawed boxes so I can try it? That’s why I have so much cereal. I buy one I know I like and one to try, and usually don’t like the new one but I hate throw out a whole box of cereal. Well that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. Truthfully, is there anything better than a fresh bowl of cereal from a new box? Yum!

I have too many spices too. The funny thing about reading this post is that you have more cereal/spices/vanilla options than my local supermarket! They recently changed to be more “modern” and decreased their range. So I’m not kidding when I say that.

I *am* getting a bigger pantry and a bigger kitchen! We are in the process of building our “dream” home! We need to pick out flooring and countertops. And should be moving in late September if things go as predicted.
Right now it seems I have about 0 sq ft for pantry in our small manu-home with 6 people in it. I can’t wait til my NEW pantry is stocked with that many cereal boxes. My kids would be delighted!

  14. Liz (Little Bitty Bakes)

Personally I think we’re keeping ourselves safe by keeping a stocked supply of peanut butter. If I ever get stuck at home and cannot leave the house, all of my jars of peanut butter would last me weeks!!

Hello! I have a quick question about the instagram actions. I just tried to load them to PSE 7 and didn’t have success. Do you know if they are compatible with PSE?

  16. Erin @ Brownie Bites

As someone whose biggest weakness is dry cereal, I can say with certainty that there would NEVER be so many uneaten boxes in my pantry! Same goes for the peanut butter.. oh my heart!

  17. Katie

Yay! I don’t have an iPhone and I’m always jealous of my friends’ instagram photos. Now I can cheat and do mine through photoshop :) Thanks!

p.s. I thought I was obsessed with cereal but clearly you have me beat!

  18. Susan

my dad would stock up on peanut butter (and many other things too) ‘because you can never have to many’ for all his grandkids. he passed away a year and a half ago and my mom figured she had enough toilet paper to last her a year – the peanut butter was close behind.

  19. Elizabeth Rhyneer

You should empty out your cabinets and especially the drawers of most everything.
Stick to one cereal, two peanut butters and only one of each measuring spoons and cups. There is someone out there that can use all the extra. It works…

Now the chocolate, I would keep it all.

  20. Haley

You can never have too many spices! I wish I had more myself! In fact anyone who like to bake can probably relate to this post. I had to pair down when I moved to my tiny studio apartment in SF, but that’s because kitchens are tiny in studios!

Looks like to can combine a couple of those boxes of cereal though. I am willing to help you organize for a plane ticket and some extra spices to take home!

  21. Sara j

Okay Amanda, I so love your post! I wish I had that kind cereal selection! I only have rice chex and raisin bran crunch. Have you ever tried mixing a sugar cereal with a healthy one? I’ve heard it is easier to eat the healthy one;).
AND, I totally wish I had that PB selection. Where did you find the Reeces PB? I HAVE to have it! I love PB and homemade jam on homemade bread:)
Good luck with your organizing! Oh and what are your favorite spices you use and which ones do use all the time???

  22. ron

What a mess, although I can give you a run for your money on the cereal(I’m a cereal killer too) and the spices. And I’m a little bit jealous of all that vanilla.WOW!

  23. Lori

You appear to be a cereal lover like me! Sadly I do not have a pantry, so all the ugly boxes sit on top of my fridge–I hate it but I also have no cupboard room for them. My only child at home leaves next year, so the boxes will eventually be gone and it will be the end of an era. Sigh. I try to keep that in mind when the box clutter starts to drive me crazy.
    :-)

  24. Noelle Reese

LOL I love all of your posts, but this one really made me snort. When my girls are off to college, the first thing I will do is make all the drawers neat, and throw out all the half eaten boxes of stuff that takes over my pantry LOL

  25. lesli

I have a lot of cereal too! My husband complains about it (he doesn’t eat cereal!). I love peanut butter & so does my Pug. And finally, you have the most adorable measuring spoons!

  26. Julie

    Hi Amanda,
I totally agree with the previous comment about Australian Cadbury’s chocolate…it’s to die for. My daughter lives in the US and one of the things she loves and misses most is our Aussie Cadbury’s chocolate. There actually is a shop in San Antonio TX we’ve been to, run by Aussies and they sell lots of different Australian confectionary including Cadbury’s chocolate. If you’ve tried the real thing I think you’d love it too. :)

  27. AmyBeth

Oh Amanda, never too many kinds of chocolate or types of spices. Love the measuring spoons – I have bunches, too. Lots of dupes in your cereal – I just pour it into storage containers by type. BTW, I just did an inventory and I have almost 200 cookie cutters. Can you say OBSESSION? My baking stuff rivals my scrapbooking stuff – can never have too much!

  28. Nicola

    Amanda,

You really have never tried Cadbury’s unless you’ve tried proper UK Cadbury’s chocolate. It’s absolutely delicious. So delicious in fact that we just shipped to the US 250 bars of Dairy Milk to my friends in LA who got married last month for their wedding favours! They paid $60 just for the shipping it’s THAT good!!

Weirdly we’re British and hate Hersheys. :) It’s just not real chocolate… but Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups? I could eat them until my stomach burst!!

    :D

  29. Michelle

My 9 year old daughter was freaking out yesterday morning because we only had 1 kind of cereal. “That never happens” she said. I dream of a bigger pantry . sigh .

  30. Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga

    I love this post, Amanda!

I love the shots of your cupboard. At least I am not alone with my PB situation. I have AT LEAST 20 jars but really, probably more. I don’t exactly count :)

And your vanilla extracts..I’d like to raid those!

    And your measuring spoons…so cute!

And finally, I was going to ask, how did she do the borders around her pics and the actions…and then you posted them. Sigh. I use Lightroom3 and not Photoshop BUT just the other day I found (for a small purchase$) some LR3 presets to mimic instagram. <—and I love your pics on there too :)
