Over the years, my father crafted a “super-secret” smoked-brisket recipe — that was a star of many family BBQs. Shortly before He passed, I followed his preparation through the one day and a half recipe and recorded the ingredients, marinade, rub, and cooking techniques. What an experience and memory.
I have the smoked-brisket recipe notes hidden in a drawer as I couldn’t face them, as they reminded me of the last time I spent with my father.

The first thing I would cook on the new smoker? My Father’s smoked-brisket and trimmings for all my family. . . along with presenting each one with a copy of the “super-secret” recipe.

  13. Caitlin Atkins

Well, we’ve never smoked anything not even a cig..but a smoker could come in really handy for all these fish my honey’s been catching. Or the pheasant he hunted, or the deer he’ll hunt. We’ve recently moved to man capital usa and while he’s not a smoking jacket kinda guy, a smoker would make him feel more manly..;)

  152. Elsa

  307. Gloria Martens

I have a small turkey in the freezer that I’m needing to cook, so I’m thinking that along with probably some chicken and maybe that brisket I have in the freezer would be my first items to cook. Getting hungry just thinking about how good they’re gonna taste.

  314. Sadonna

This is an amazing give away. This would be the perfect gift for my husband. We have a smoker the door wont stay closed and our dog keeps peeing on it so we refuse to use it. LOL The first thing I would smoke would be a big fat Turkey.

  315. JAckie Wood

We went to Alaska over the summer on a fishing trip that came as a surprise to us. Yes, you guessed it. We came home with 100 lbs of Salmon and Halibut. Tastes great….but imagine being able to smoke it. Fantastic!

  331. Kelly @ Dare to be Domestic

The possibilities with this are endless (at least for me) – my boyfriend smokes items on our grill and the last thing he made (brisket) was to DIE for! Depending on how doable it would be and how large this thing is I’d definitely say I’d want some beef in there – Brisket would be my first choice followed by chicken!

What a great giveaway – thanks for the chance to possibly win this guys! ox

  332. the wanna be country girl

  334. Amanda I

I’m smoke some pork to make yummy bbq for all my friends. Yum, yummy! Love some corn on the cob and potatoes too.

  349. Jeannette P

I’d say the first BIG thing would be the Thanksgiving turkey. Not huge on turkey but I bet it would taste fantastic smoked in this thing. I’d for sure have to use it before Thanksgiving though so I’d say ribs, pulled pork, bacon, & Greek chicken would all have to be tried in preparation to make the moistest Turkey ever.

  350. Sarah

Oh my! My husband looked at this very smoker, but decided we didn’t need to spend the money. But how GREAT would it be to surprise him with it! He’s a pro at dry rub smoked ribs, so that would be my first request of him. And the Thanksgiving Turkey would definitely find it’s home in that beauty!

  351. Bobbie Huddleston

Well first I would give it to my husband because he needs a new one. I bought him one for christmas several, several years ago and it is in sad shape lol. Then I would buy a nice big turkey to smoke, yummmm!!!

  352. Jada

OMG! That would be perfect on my porch to smoke salmon. I am now using a red $39 dollar smoker that leaks. lol It still does a pretty good job but this would be AWESOME! Thanks for the opportunity to win this beauty…

Hmm- I like your bacon idea :) I am sure i’d have no say in the matter- if I win this I am sure my BF will claim ownership in about 2 seconds flat- lol

  354. Summer

Amanda, pulled pork sounds amazing! I think I would want to try that first but my husband would want bacon. He loves it on just about anything! I showed him the bacon doughnuts from your trip but he didn’t seem to think it would taste good. I think he would love it if he tried it. Who doesn’t love their bacon dipped in maple syrup?

  359. Erin P

Would have to do some turkey legs since we didn’t make it to our state fair this year…then probably my husband’s secret recipe venison roast.

  360. Amy

This is great. My husband has actually talked out smoking food, but I always thought it involved a great big apparatus that you kept outside.

I love smoked cheese, so that’s the first thing I would try to tackle!

  361. my life in tune

The first thing I would do is turn it over to my husband and let him smoke me whatever suits his fancy :)

  362. cindi

Wow – the first thing that would go in would be brisket then later I’d make some beef jerky. One of my friends has one of these and I’ve always been so jealous. She makes the most amazing pulled pork and smoked whole chickens and she says it’s truly easy to use. Yum!

  363. chinamommy

Oh man, all those comments are making my tummy growl!!! I guess I’d do chicken cause it’s easy!! But turkey, ribs, salmon…. Oh, I’d want to try it all!!!

This is awesome!!! I think I’d have to try a turkey first — my dad smokes his own turkeys so I think we’d need to have a competition :-)

  393. Cindy Turner

What’s the first thing you’d make in your new smoker? I have no idea as that would be all for the hubs haha! Just thinking about all the nights I wouldn’t have to cook is FABULOUS!!

  394. Kirsti Fleming

I’d probably end up smoking the antelope my husband just got. But my Dad is the “smoking king”, so I’d have to tap into his brain for his sauces and marinades! It would be a blast to do together!

  395. Scott

I’d smoke a rack of ribs using applewood and hickory. I have a great rib rub recipe and bbq sauce recipe (on my blog). I currently use a Weber 22 inch charcoal grill to cook and it’s a little more difficult than smoking with an actual smoker. I cook with indirect heat/smoke but the heat is still to hot because there is not enough space in between the meat and the heat.

  396. Legally Married

Oh, wow, that’s super impressive! I’m a rib fan. I never make them myself, but I could if I had this handy-dandy smoker!

  397. Anne J

I would have to say Pork. My dad makes smoked pork that is to die for, so I’d like to see if I could make it as good : )
    Thanks for the chance!

We have 3 boys in baseball and are always hosting BBQ’s- lot’s of ribs & chicken for them! And salmon and veggies for me.

  402. Traci Hall

I would go for a rubbed brisket, but my husband, being a hunter, would love to try out smoked venison. Yummy!

  403. Colleen

It would be a toss up between pulled pork and ribs. The good news is – it looks big enough to do both!!! Yummy!
