A Photo Rag Quilt!

I had so much fun making my first rag quilt, I immediately had to start another one! And I had *just* the project in mind. Several years ago I was browsing through a craft store when I came across printable fabric. Yes, printable fabric you put in your printer and print digital pictures from your computer onto it. I thought, “Well! If anybody needs printable fabric, it’s gotta be me.” I’ve been hoarding this fabric since 2004, waiting for just the right project to come along. And I have to say, this photo rag quilt was *perfect*!!! :)

Shabby Chic Rag Quilt!

I have been seeing these super cute rag quilts lately and have been dying to try one! I’ve always wanted to make a quilt (despite my glaring lack of sewing skillz) and these rag quilts looked like something I could handle. I am really *so bad* at sewing, so I always have tons of extra fabric left over from my sewing projects. I checked my stash and I had some really cute patterns leftover from the crate covers and some clothes I made for Miley that all coordinated.

Since I had all my supplies on hand and didn’t even have to go to the store, I decided to start this late on Friday night. By Saturday night, I had this!!

Be sure and check out the rest of the pics (and get the instructions!) by clicking here! :)

This was a fun project, even for a sewing challenged loon like myself! :) While I won’t be opening an Etsy store anytime soon, this probably won’t be the last rag quilt you see from me! ;)

In other news, this weekend we were down in Auburn to visit my parents and go to the football game. Auburn’s a great place to update our family pictures because my dad can take the pictures, my mom can get the dogs to look at the camera, and the woods around their new house make a very nice background! :)

Beach Pictures & A Recipe Perfect for Labor Day

This weekend was Kevin’s BIG 30th birthday!! :) To celebrate we spent a long weekend in a cozy condo right on the beach- no dogs, no cats, just us. :) Even though the hurricane was supposed to come through, we didn’t have any bad weather, it was bright and sunny all except for one day. For Kevin’s birthday dinner we got fresh crab claws & shrimp right from the gulf and fried them up for a celebration meal.

And by a stroke of pure chance, it just so happens that on the exact same weekend at the exact same beach where Kevin and I were vacationing, my BFF from grammar school (who now live in Oregon) was staying just *two* condos down the beach from our condo. We were just a stroll down the beach from each other!

My beautiful friend, Niki - she has not changed a bit, she has always been this gorgeous!!

I was so, so lucky to get to do a beach photoshoot with Niki and her beautiful daughter Amerie. (Isn’t it crazy when your friends start having kids?? :)) And I got a chance to try out my new Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L lens! :)

Amerie was the sweetest, happiest baby. She not shy one bit! :)

Good genes run in the family - Just look at that precious smirk and those gorgeous eyes. There was no photoshop work done here! Her eyes were just as clear, blue and sparkly in person. :)

In other news… If you ever need a delicious, crowd pleasing recipe for a gathering of friends and family– I have the perfect dish for you…

Perfect Pulled Pork - It’s slow roasted, seasoned, and sa-vor-y!!! Let me tell you. :) It’d be perfect to make for Labor Day this weekend…. :)

And can I show off what I made last night for our anniversary? :D Kevin’s favorite meal ever is Fried Crab Claws. He always orders them at restaurants whenever they’re on the menu. Kevin’s been in the hospital and is recovering at home; we weren’t able to go out for our anniversary, so I decided to bring the crab claws to him! :) It was my first time making them and they just turned out SO good and it was seriously the easiest thing I have ever made, I just had to share it with you all. I think this will become our new Special Occasion meal!! :)

Now, don’t hate me cause I don’t have a recipe posted for these yet. I’m still perfecting it, but it’s coming. I’ll definitely be making these again around Kevin’s birthday, so maybe I’ll post it then. ;) Keep checking back! :D

Seriously, the BEST invention *ever*!

I know, I know, I go months at a time and you never hear from me and now 3 days in a row! Well, I promise this will be the last one… at least for a few days. ;) But, I seriously just got the coolest appliance ever and had to write and tell you about it! I never thought I’d be this infatuated with something that plugs in, but it has made me breakfast every day since owning, how can I not love it?? :D

It’s the Back to Basics Egg and Muffin toaster, and you can pick one of these babies up for less than $30 at Walmart or Target.

Put your mouse over the image to see a larger version

It’s a toaster AND an egg cooker, and yes, it really works! It does toast and bagels like a regular toaster, but it’s also got this nifty little sidecar attachment that cooks an egg (scrambled or poached style) and also heats up pre-cooked meat like sausage, bacon or ham. You can do just toast, just an egg, or best of all, toast AND an egg at the same time. And the coolest part is that it delays starting the toast until your egg and toast will be ready *at the same time*!!!! This thing is a better chef than I am!!!

All you do is pour in 2 tbsp water (it comes with the measuring thingy in the first picture), pour in a scrambled egg (it says to use Pam on the egg pan, but I don’t! the egg just slides right out anyway), add your meat (if you want it, you don’t have to cook any if you don’t want!), and cover. Then put in your toast, select “egg and toast”, then just like a regular toaster, press down the lever! :)

And in less than 5 mins you have a *very* hearty and delicious breakfast!!!! :D

But the absolute BEST part is…. THERE’S NO CLEANUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D
The water you poured in at the beginning evaporates, and the egg just slides right out of the pan. See in the picture below? I didn’t even rinse the egg pan before taking the picture *blush*. The most you cleanup you’d have to do is to rinse everything off in the sink and run a wet washcloth over the toaster.

Oh, and did I mention you can use this thing to BOIL eggs as well?? Up to 4 at a time! I haven’t tested that out yet, even though Kevin loves boiled eggs, but we have been so preoccupied with making bacon-egg-and-cheese biscuits we haven’t even tried the boiling part yet. :p

Okay, my commercial is over. :D But I know I would’ve *definitely* wanted someone to tell me about this thing, as I had never even *dreamed* that they made something like this until someone told me about it last week– so I’m passing it on to you! :D Enjoy! :)

A New Way to Organize Ribbon? Ribbon Ring!

Even though my ribbon drawers (all three of them :p) are stuffed to the max, somehow, I can’t seem to STOP buying ribbon!! :) All the ribbon I’ve bought since organizing and posting pictures of my ribbon drawers has just been stuffed in *another* drawer somewhere, totally unorganized. *blush* But even if I wanted to organize it and put it with all my other ribbons, I’m all out of space! Lucky for me, I came across the Ribbon Ring… :)

I started off with the Ribbon Ring Starter set. It comes with 30 ribbon cards and one ring to store all the cards on. To use the cards, you just pull your ribbon through the two slots on the card. That’s all! The ribbon hangs down where you can see it. These would be sooooooooo cute if you had a ring for each color and hung them on your wall with decorative hooks, wouldn’t they?? :)

I really like this new way to organize ribbon! :) First, I like how you can easily see how much of the ribbon you have left without having to unwind it off the spool or unroll it from a card. Even though I can see the ribbon in my ribbon boxes, it’s all wound up. I can *guess* how much I have left, but I’m not very accurate. :p With the Ribbon Ring, it’s right there, you can immediately tell exactly how much you have left. Also with them hanging straight, they don’t get wrinkled, creased, tangled, or all curled up. And each ring holds at *least* 30 ribbon cards, but the rings don’t take up much space at all. Definitely a bonus if you have a small scrap space. Oh, and you could just easily grab a ring and throw it in your crop bag if you were going to a crop!

The best part about Ribbon Rings is how easy they are to use. It was so much easier putting ribbons on the ribbon ring cards than rolling them up in embellishment boxes or winding them around ribbon cards like I did in the drawers. It seriously only takes like 2 seconds to do a ribbon, then onto the next! :) And it’s super easy to add to your collection, which i LOVE, because my ribbon collection is ALWAYS growing!!! :) Adding more cards to a ring is as simple as opening it. You can flip through your ribbon and put it right next to the one you want. I might have to get a ring for every color! :D If you’ve been waiting for the perfect organizational tool to come along before you organize your ribbon, give the Ribbon Ring a try, and let me know how it works for you! :)

Organization: Computer Cables and Tupperware!

Junky, messy, tangled computer cables!! What to do with them??! I even included pictures of where you can find everything! :) And about the tupperware- well, that was my new years resolution *LAST* year! :) It took a few months, but I did get the tupperware cabinet organized, and it actually *stayed* that way all year, so I threw in a picture of that too. :)
