Songs to Wake Up To

I was recently asked by Folgers to write a post about my favorite part of the morning and share how coffee and music play a part in my morning routine. It was perfect timing because I was just thinking it’d be fun to write a post about songs that are fun to wake up to in the morning. Anything to aid in waking up on the right side of the bed, lol! I am admittedly not a morning person, so I love finding upbeat songs that instantly put you in a good mood, start the morning off right, and energize you for the day. I keep them on my playlist all day long! Here’s what’s currently motivating us in the morning at our house. :)

Kevin’s Wake Up Song

Everybody’s Working for the Weekend
by Loverboy

Kevin says… “I grew up listening to 80′s music and this song always stuck with me. It’s a fun and catchy reminder that there’s always reason to stay positive — the weekend is coming up soon. I remember hearing it on the radio at the end of the day, but I thought it seemed appropriate to listen to it at the beginning of the day. I made it my alarm clock song to help me stay motivated through the week. I love weekends and every morning I wake up with a fun reminder that the weekend is just a few days away.”

Amanda’s Wake Up Song

Viva la Vida
by Coldplay

To be perfectly honest, my favorite part of the morning is turning off the alarm, rolling over, and snuggling back under the covers for a few more minutes, lol! Since I only hear the first few seconds of a song anyway, the inspiring, building intro of Coldplay’s Viva la Vida is perfect for my alarm clock song. After grabbing my phone and checking Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, I am usually ready to start the day! ;)

Morning & Coffee

Growing up I would always wake up to the smell of bacon and coffee. Now that really is the best part of waking up, lol! Talk about motivation to get out of bed! :) Breakfast was my family’s favorite meal of the day, and my mom and dad did it right. Every morning before school my mom would fix eggs, toast, and grits while my dad made the bacon and coffee. On the weekends we’d go even bigger for brunch with my dad’s famous homemade biscuits, Belgian waffles, and my mom’s sausage cheese grits. Whenever we visit, I still ask for their famous breakfasts in the morning! :) I still love waking up in their house to the smell of bacon and coffee.

What’s Your Wake Up Song?

Do you have a song you wake up to every morning? What songs get you out of bed and help you stay positive and motivated for the day? Let me know in the comments! :)

Iced coffee is perfect for summer and I’m completely obsessed with the velvety-rich chocolate iced mocha pictured at the beginning of this post. Here’s where you can find my easy overnight recipe. Warning: It’s way too good to be legal: Homemade Iced Mocha.

P.S. If you like mocha you might like these Brown Butter Salted Caramel Mocha Cookies. They have coffee in them, so you can totally eat them for breakfast. ;) These cookies would definitely motivate me to get out of bed in the morning!

Shut up and Let Me Go by the Ting Tings usually gets me stoked to get out of bed. Although there are mornings when I wish it was the alarm that would shut up and let me go (back to sleep)!! :)

Folders must be stalking my Facebook page because I JUST posted about this. The first song that comes on for me is Ellie Goulding’s Anything Could Happen. If that doesn’t get me out of bed, Pitbull comes on ten minutes later with Shake Señora. THAT is fun to wake up to. You can’t help but dance!!

I have kids who don’t really love to get up at 6:30 in morning, but once we put on some music, the dancing starts (even if it is just chair dancing while eating breakfast). We listen to Kid’s Place Live on Sirius and love when “I’m Blue (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlMHdhf0nvE)” comes on. It is so fun and wakes us up while I have my espresso and they have their tea.

Here Comes the Sun is a great one that is my default, but one that I NEVER get tired of is the intro to Sweet Home Alabama. It reminds me to TURN IT UP for the day!

I’m definitely more of a night owl than a morning person. Maybe I just need some motivational tunes to start my day off – I just use my phone alarm right now LOL.

My current wake up song is Soul Meets Body from Death Cab for Cutie, I hear the first couple bars and hit the snooze, then a few minutes later hear it again. It’s been on there for a while, it may be time for a new one. I like songs that start out slow so that I’m not TOO alarmed when they start to play, that makes for a bad morning for me :)
As I scrolled down to comment I noticed the other comments and LOVED your response…it’s perfectly worded and honest and I hope that the ugly comments don’t ruin one minute of your day Amanda!

Wake up song? I just want my darn coffee! Song that gets me pumped, though, is Good Feeling by Flo Rida. Also totally loving Next To Me by Emeli Sande. And I think you do a great job balancing the fun, for the heck of it blog posts and the ones that include a little commerce. It’s a tricky balance!

My get up and go song is Mat Kearney’s “Hey Mama!” Such a peppy song to get out of bed to…especially when you are going to be chasing 2 kiddos around for the rest of the day! :)
Amanda, I love your blog. Yours is one of the first I ever started reading and I love everything about it. I love your great weeknight recipes and great tips, I love seeing your great vacations and all the fun you have with the other awesome bloggers (especially the bakery tours), and I love when you post your favorite things. I always find something I just need in those. You inspire me to make the most of every day and I always look forward to your posts. Please don’t let anyone make you feel bad for doing what you love to do…and so what if it’s sponsored. We all love to win free goodies! :) If I knew you in person, I would bring you a Cup of coffee and give you a big hug to brighten your day! Maybe one day I’ll meet you, until then I’ll keep enjoying each and everyone of your new posts!

Coffee looks fantastic! I can’t wait to give it a try. I love the song Janglin’ by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros in the morning. It just makes me happy! Side note… Your blog is great! I LOVE seeing stuff about Miley and Howie since I have two feisty little BT’s myself (Martin and Max) … and everything else that you post about is fantastic, too. Keep doing what makes YOU happy and don’t listen to the naysayers. Thanks for sharing your life with us!

Zac Brown Band wakes me up every morning with Knee Deep! Makes me wish I was headed to the beach instead of waking up at 4:30 to get my workout in before work!

I feel like I need to listen to more mellow stuff in the morning. I know the norm is to go for more upbeat tunes to wake you up, but when it’s that early in the morning, my brain needs to be eased into the idea of starting my day. :)

I LOVE anything by the Newsboys, TobyMac or Mandisa first thing when I wake up! As the coffee in the cup goes down I like Casting Crowns, MercyMe and Phillips, Craig and Dean to name a few. My Keurig is always on and ready to brew!!

Great Big Sea’s ‘If I Were King’* is delightful, bouncy, and has the added bonus of the first two words in the song being, “Wake up.” Honestly, there’s a whole lot of GBS that is quality first-thing-in-the-morning!

If I listen to music first thing in the morning, it is normally on K-Love (Christian radio station). I love regular music too (just about any kind), but it’s nice to hear that message first thing in the morning — gives me a few things to think about!!

This is my current favorite song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbdJXKqVgtg

We LOVE LOVE LOVE to wake up to “Say Hey” by Michael Franti & Spearhead! You can’t help but get up and dance and bop around! My 11 year old daughter and I love to listen to this on the way to school. It just makes you happy. http://youtu.be/ehu3wy4WkHs

Other favorites of ours are “Good Morning Baltimore” from Hairspray, “On The Floor” by Jennifer Lopez, “Run The World” by Beyonce, “Something In The Water” by Brooke Fraser, “Another Day” by Pomplamoose (if you haven’t heard of them you MUST go directly to YouTube and listen NOW!) … I could go on and on! Thanks for this post!!

Joe Boxers ‘Boxerbeat’ … http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vncoh-yJ9nw ….. You have to wake to something you can dance around the house to lol :)
