Little River Canyon

The view from the top :)

The view from the bottom :)

We hiked down to the bottom of the canyon for the first two pictures, then around the edge of the water and got under the small waterfall for the third picture :)

The hike to the big waterfall was not quite so easy! We had to take off our shoes to cross the river, then hike BAREFOOT across all those rocks!! Yuck!

The picture of us by the big waterfall was worth the long hike! :)

We were soo tired from hiking all the way down to the bottom of the canyon, all the way across to the big waterfall, and then all the way back up that we decided we'd had enough hiking for the day. :) After eating lunch, we decided to take a scenic drive along the canyon's edge. This was the first of several overlooks that we stopped at. :)

Desoto Falls

The view from the top of Desoto Falls

The view from the top of Desoto Falls was pretty bad (as you can see from the previous picture). You could only see the side of the fall. So, our goal for the weekend was to find a way to the bottom to get a better view. There just didn't look like there was any possible way, and we'd heard there wasn't! But, the river had to go somewhere right?? :) We were determined to find a way into the river and then we could just hike up it to get a better view! :)

The hike to the bottom of Desoto Falls was a loong and arduous one. There was no trail, and tons of steep rocks and fallen trees were in the way. We were so happy once we got to the bottom! We had a wonderful view and it was so peaceful and quiet. Of course on the way back we found a much shorter trail. It went straight up, but there was a rope to hang on to. It led us straight into someone's backyard, so it must've been their personal trail to the falls. ;) We were just so happy we didn't have to take the same way back as the way we came! :)
