Pizza Pasta Bake Ingredients

Here’s all you’ll need for this Cheesy Pepperoni Pizza Pasta Bake recipe. Your favorite pasta shape, pepperoni, sausage, shredded cheese, tomato sauce, and diced tomatoes.

I love the fun shape of campanelle pasta, but you could use any shape pasta here. Elbows, shells, penne, or rotini, would be great!

And I love using Jimmy Dean pre-cooked turkey sausage crumbles. It tastes just like regular breakfast sausage, but with WAY less fat and calories.  If you can’t find this where you live, you can just use regular browned and drained breakfast sausage. You can still do it all in one pan! :)

Next add the dry pasta, diced tomatoes, and tomato sauce.

I love these Basil, Garlic, and Oregano tomatoes. If you can’t find these, you can definitely use regular diced tomatoes. You don’t even need to drain the tomatoes first.

Finally, pour in 2 cups of water and stir to combine. Bring to a boil, then cover and reduce heat to medium / medium-low, and simmer for 15 minutes until the liquid is mostly absorbed.

Like so. If yours still has too much liquid after 15 minutes, you may want to increase the heat and cook for 5 more minutes or so.

Next top with shredded cheese and a few extras slices of pepperoni, or any of your other favorite pizza toppings!

Place the skillet under the boiler in your oven and broil until browned and bubbly, about 3 minutes. (But keep a close eye on it so it doesn’t burn!)

Made this last night! It was so delish! Thanks so much! I use three links of sausage instead. I also added a small can of tomato paste since my pasta sauce wasn’t very thick. Broiling it made it incredible!

This looks so good. I think I’m going to add a couple dollups of ricotta to it when I add the mozzarella to give it more of a lasagna type feel. Can’t wait for dinner tonight!

Susan-My broiler is a feature built into my oven. A button on the main dashboard allows me to broil/turn on only the top heating element. I believe older ovens had a separate broiler under the main oven. Do you also not have a broiler built into the main oven?

If so, I would say that you can just melt the cheese on top of the stove. I would sprinkle the cheese and then let it sit for a few minutes with the lid on again to let the cheese get all melty. You won’t get the browned and bubbly cheese like you will get if you use a broiler but I don’t think it will take away from the recipe. Just my two cents!

I made this recipe last night and it was a hit. I took a dive off the deep end and used turkey sausage AND turkey pepperoni and the taste was incredible even without all of the extra fat. The cook time of 15 minutes was spot on for perfectly al dente pasta and it was so delicious with all of the sauce absorbed into pasta (I used bow ties). This recipe is incredibly adaptable and I can’t wait to experiment with other ingredients to sub for the sausage and pepperoni.
