Our First House

Our First Home Tour | www.kevinandamanda.com

Amidst the flurry of busyness and excitement that came along with moving into the new house, I realized I had never properly documented a tour of our first house together! I had always planned to do this. I dreamed of the day it would all be done — finished! — ready to present to the world. But there were a few things I never got around to updating — I never shared our kitchen or dining room or master bedroom. When we first moved in, the dining room was my favorite room in the house. I can still envision the plans I had for it. But still, to this day, ten years later, I do not have dining room furniture! It seems like something was always in a state of updating or rearranging or just needing some final, finishing touches to be “perfect”. When we first moved in, I photographed a full tour of the house, with big plans in mind for each room, and promising to personalize each one and share the updates here, in our virtual scrapbook. And I did end up sharing most of it, in bits and pieces, room by room as we got to each one. But before we moved out, I wanted to share one final look at our old home, our first house together. Of course it took moving out to actually get around to doing it! :) I did the same thing with our first apartment. :)

Welcome to the foyer, won’t you come inside? :)

Here’s the kitchen! There were a few more things on the counter when we lived in it :)

The laundry room and garage is right off the kitchen. The paint color in here was colored matched to the rug, which is from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. More photos of the Laundry Room Makeover can be found here, along with a link to the rug on BB&B. It is still in stock! :)

Here’s the master bedroom. I loved this room. I kept meaning to take photos in here, but I was just waiting on a few more “finishing touches”. The furniture in here is the Grammercy Park collection from Lane Furniture. My dad custom made the headboard and bed for us. The headboard has lights with dimmer switches and electrical outlets for phone charging built into the headboard. Underneath the bed are huge drawers for storage, two on each side. He even special ordered drawer pulls from Lane to match the furniture.

I will have to share more details on this from the new house! :)

On the other side of the house are the three bedrooms. The guest bedroom is in the back of the house, overlooking the backyard.

I love your home, and I can tell you really put a lot of yourselves into the home. I was wondering what you used in the scrapbooking room for the paper. I am working on a scrapbooking studio and have not found something I like until this picture on Pinterest! Please share. Thanks.

Congrats on the new home :) I have an odd question; the candle holder in your old den….where in the world did you get that? I love it!

Thanks Nicky! I got it several years ago from Pottery Barn. I remember Target had some very similar at the time as well. Hope this helps! :)

Your house looks so nice. Especially your bedroom is really pretty. And the little dog is the cutest one I’ve ever seen.

My sister’s Boston used to ride around in her jeans jacket pockets when he was a baby! Baby Bostons are the BEST! (and way more agreeable than grown ones) Do yours sleep with you? Do they hog the bed?

WOW! Your first house was just beautiful, I’m sure it was hard to leave. I love your master bedroom, it looks like a hotel room … what a nice retreat. I also love that you aren’t afraid to use color and everything turns out so well and looks so put together! Can’t wait to see what you do with your new house!!!

What a beautiful house! I’m not sure that I could leave, lol. What I want to know, is with as busy as you are, HOW in the world does your house stay so clean? It’s just me and hubby and I just can never seem to be finished with the cleaning! It just doesn’t seem to stay clean once i’ve done it, lol.

Beautiful. The house has a great layout, and you have great choices in paint and decorating. I don’t think you will really have any problem selling it quickly!

And I have to say, I don’t know how much real estate is in your area, but where we live in Ohio your old house would go for at least $260K, and your new one would be in in the $350-379K range!

    Hi Amanda,
All I can say is… WOW! I am jealous and I want your life sometimes. hehe. Your new house looks absolutely stunning though, so even if you miss your first one the new one has soooo much potential.
    xoxox LOVE YOUR BLOG!

Your office/scrap room was (is?) so inspiring. Sometimes, when my room was a wreck, I’d go look at the picture of yours for motivation to get things back in order, LOL. Can’t wait to see what you do with your new office and what your dad will build for your storage in there. Hope the old house wells quickly for you and that all the boxes in the new house will soon be a thing of the past.

What a sweet home! There’s good karma so bet it will sell quickly to another family that will love it as much as you. I hear you about the dining room table. When I met my husband 38 years ago, he had his family’s 1960’s butcher block formica top/metal legs table (and one of the legs still has the duct tape around it from when he inherited it) and that’s what we moved into our first house after we got married. We kept meaning to replace it, but when you throw a tablecloth over it, you hardly notice the legs. Plus, it’s 60″ wide so can seat two on each end, and with the leaves in, can seat four on a side for a total of 12. Practical, makes a great family story, and full of so many memories of happy meals around it. And there always seems to be something more important to spend the $ on.

Thanks for sharing the paint colors, too! That is so helpful!!

Congrats on the new house! The pictures are so pretty, and old house was so pretty too! I have to ask though, do you know the finish on your kitchen cabinets in the old house? It’s so shiny and pretty! We have the exact same style cabinets in the house we’re in now, and my husband wants them shiny!

    Thanks!

Love your first house! Such great light in your breakfast nook! Are y’all staying in huntsville or did you move out of state?

I had to mention that we bought the gramercy park living room furniture from Lanes over 7 years ago! Love it even though the kids have done a number on it. :)
