Southern Sunny Weekend

Green Mountain Nature Trail - Huntsville, AL - February 2010

Green Mountain Nature Trail - Huntsville, AL - February 2010

Last weekend it snowed on Valentine’s Day.

This weekend the weather was sunny and gorgeous.

On Sunday the high was 68 degrees.

I broke out my summer cargo pants and we took Miley and Howie to the nature trail for an afternoon hike.

The nature trail is always fun-

there’s a huge lake with ducks & geese that walk right up to you…

…a covered bridge…

…and a 2-mile walking trail around the lake.

I took these pictures with my Sony H20. It’s a compact point-and-shoot: a “throw it in my purse just in case I run into Orlando Bloom” camera. I love it for hiking- I mean, the big camera’s great and all- but my favorite lens weighs about 400 lbs. It’s nice to be able to grab the camera out of my pocket real quick- and not have to lug around the entire stock of B&H Photo when we’re out in the middle of the woods and already trying to wrangle two insane canines (yes, I’m talking to you, M&H!).

It has an “Easy” mode, which basically means all I have to do is turn it on and press the button. Ahhh. :)

On Saturday, we lounged. We opened the windows, shared the recliner and watched The Breakfast Club.

And ate spicy nacho popcorn.

How was your weekend?

wow, your pics taken with a point & shoot camera is amazing! I have a Canon which I love, but, heck, my shots don’t come anywhere near as beautiful as yours. Is there a secret? Composition, lighting? I love photography, but, am terrible at it. love your blog….aloha!

GREAT photos!! Love the two with the sun rays coming down :)

Ugh…the weather here in Nashville has been nuts too…snowing one weekend, then sunny and warm a few days after! We haven’t had so much snow before…at least not in the 10 years I have been here…it’s been fun to see though :)

i have been reading your tutorial on uploading cute fonts to my blog. i love how detailed you are in every step. i’m hoping you have a min to help me through what i’m missing.

every single step has been completed and i have tripple checked for typos, none. i have tried a few different fonts just to be sure it is not one specific font not working. this is how they read when i load them onto my webs.com account, peakadee.swf, peajackandjane.swf and a few others. i only uploaded one at a time with the addtional 4 files. it wouldn’t allow me to copy the file so i wrote it down and replaced so it looks as so no typos. any help? it is applied now to my blog and the titles, date and side bars are just blank. i looked through all the FAQ common problems and tried all. the only one i’m not sure about is having the index.htm. is that supposed to be on webs.com too. it is i just wasn’t sure because it wasn’t listed in the FAQ common problems where it says “You should have at least 4 files: blogger-sifr.js, sifr.css, sifr.js, and your SWF font file. If even one is missing, the whole thing won’t work” i am also not sure about the Blogger Minima template. don’t know if mine is or isn’t.

check mine out. i’m sure it is something so stupid and little that is not letting it work. your detailed eye will probably catch it right away.

your help would be so very appreciated!!

    thanks- em

68 degrees?!?!?!? JEALOUS…absolutely JEALOUS!!!! I LOVE the snow and all and we usually have some this time of year, however, it has been beautiful sunshine days with freezing cold temps! Mother Nature teases us so!
Glad you all had fun though :)

You are making me soooo homesick for ALABAMA. I remember those late Feb. days, when it would warm up and spring would start making it’s appearance. The Summit was less than 5 miles from my house and The Cheesecake Factory is my absolute fave. We don’t have a Cheesecake Factory in Michigan and we just got 8 inches of snow yesterday. Just remember to fully enjoy your lovely southern weather.

Always waiting to find out what you have been up to and the yummy recipes!!! My most favorite is Miley & Howie, though! We have a Boster Terrior named Jack. He is 13 now and very sick. He is not in any pain, though! We are just trying to hang in there with him day by day!!! He is my little buddy and it is just heart wrenching to think he will be in doggy heaven soon.:( So please keep sending the wonderful pictures of M & H, they are much appreciated!!!

Same as you. Snow last weekend. This weekend – Gorgeous! We had a Star Wars birthday party for my youngest who turned 8. It was a blast and the weather was perfect. I spent Friday night/Saturday morning sewing him a Jedi cape with hood. I think this will be one of his fondest memories as far as birthday parties go. So much fun.

This is the second weekend in a row now that I feel very jealous of you! But in a totally-happy-for-you and glad-it-was-awesome kind of way. :) Thanks for sharing all about it!

………what can I say? I just simply love your blog and ALL that you have shared with your audience. I don’t have another blog to compare it too……AND I really don’t want to. Yours is enough for me: entertaining, educational , inspiring, uplifting, pretty, etc…

    Enjoy your day! Yvette

ps If you had time, I would ask if you can send me your instructions on how to start a blog, or a family website. One day I will take the time to learn these things. You seem to make it look so easy. Again thanks for sharing.

It was pretty, wasn’t it! Gotta love weather here!
We had movie night Friday and actually let the kids outdoors for a while Saturday. I am hungry for Spring!
    Have a great week!

I am so envious of you sunny weekend. Where we are we had yet another ice/snow storm this weekend. I like snow – but I am getting tired of it. SO time to think of the good thing about cold/snow. #1 Scarves – wear one everyday this time of year. #2 – too cold to do anything outside so GIRLS SHOPPING DAY took place. Three new pair of shoes, 1 dress, 1 scarf, 1 skirt and 2 sweaters. ALL on sale! Have a great week!

Love the pictures and glad to see Howie and Miley! We live in Northern California and on Saturday it was beautiful, high 50’s. I too wore cargo’s and sandles, woke up to 18″ of snow on Sunday. Our 2 Boston’s, (both 1) did not not know what to think of the changing of the weather, but they endured it with play time in the snow for just a short while. Made your 3 Cheese Manacotti for the first time Sunday and it was awesome.
    Thanks for sharing your weekend.

My weekend was beautiful, too… although being in AZ, we were STILL colder than you!

Love your blog and photography! I have family who live in Madison, Al. and they love to hike and be outdoors. I know you live near there and I wanted to show them your photos and be able to tell them where this “nature trail” is located…maybe they would want to check it out! Could you email me or just put more info on your blog about where it is?

    Hi Kevin and Amanda,
Looks like you had a fab weekend. We live at Cedar Creek Lake in East Texas. A far cry from my Southern California upbringing, but we love it. It is relaxing to get out near water and nature. Your photos are fantastic! Just amazing work. I love, love Howie. He is just too cute. Love you site. Enjoy reading you guys.

We finally got a break from the 7 inches of snow from last weekend which was beautiful coming down. This weekend we watched the sun peak out and melt some of the snow. Your photos are awesome. Thanks for sharing. :()
