Peanut Butter Patty Cake Bars

You know Jenny and I couldn’t get together in California without baking up some decadent treats to share with you guys! Of course we did!! :) As soon as I arrived in Newport Beach I saw the entire counter full of fun ingredients she’d set out for us to play with. I nearly died when I saw Girl Scout cookies in the mix!! Jenny had the fabulous idea for Girl Scout cookie cake bars. You’ve seen Jenny’s fabulous cake bars before right? Her Gooey White Chocolate Fluffernutter Cake Bars are life changing. One of my top 5 favorite desserts of all time, hands down. They must be made immediately!

Of course, I think our Girl Scout cookie cake bars turned out pretty amazing as well. I made mine with the Peanut Butter Tagalongs, and Jenny made hers with Thin Mints. Just take a look below to see how they turned out. :)

Girl Scout Cookie Tagalong Cake Bars

Cake mix, peanut butter, chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, butter and Tagalongs. Can’t go wrong here!!

How to Make the Best Cake Bars

Combine the cake mix, one stick of butter, and egg and mix until a soft dough forms. You can totally use a mixer for this!

Girl Scout Cookie Tagalong Cake Bars

Line a 9×13 pan with foil, and spray generously with cooking spray. Press the dough into the bottom of the prepared pan. Try not to eat all of the dough before adding to the pan. Be careful with that last step. From personal experience, I’ve learned it’s very, very difficult. You may want to have an extra cake mix on hand just in case.

Now it’s time for the chocolate chips! Sprinkle them all over the yummy dough.

Next we have our gooey topping. This is my absolute favorite part! Mix a half a cup creamy peanut butter with 1 can sweetened condensed milk until well combined.

Then drizzle this sweet peanut butter concoction allllll over the chocolate chips. Mama mia. This is seriously so good. I don’t know how I’m going to make it to the end of this post. I’m already dying!

Next, chop up some of those famous peanut butter patties…

And sprinkle them on top of the cake bars.

Now it’s time to bake! Here’s our two cake bars, baking side by side. Bake these at 350 for 23-25 minutes.

These are gooey, chocolaty, peanut buttery, and so, so delicious!

Girl Scout Cookie Tagalong Cake Bars

I love every single thing about them from the soft cakey bottom to the gooey peanut butter middle to the chocolate peanut butter cookie crust. These are so insanely good. Make these ASAP if you’ve got some Girl Scout cookies hidden in the freezer! And if you’re not willing to use those precious, only-come-once-a-year Tagalongs — I hear ya! I totally don’t blame you one bit :) — try peanut butter Oreos. Or even regular, double stuffed Oreos. I know 100% they’d be fantastic here. :)

Wow! These are INCREDIBLE!! Perfectly moist, gooey, creamy, and crunchy. If you have a box of Tagalongs laying around – make these immediately! New favorite dessert for sure.

  2. sprinklina

I made these last year & people flipped over them. Then this year I wanted to try them with my favorite cookie-Samoas. I did what you said by replacing the PB for caramel ( homemade!) & they were UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!
    Thank you!!!

  3. Ila

Family Dollar has a generic Tagalong available all year. Tastes exactly the same & only like $1.5o a box. I think I might make these with the family dollar cookies for a few parties I have coming up! Thanks for the recipe

  4. Kim, Rambling Family Manager

My co-leader made these to give out as samples at our cookie booth yesterday and we sold out of Tagalongs!!

  5. Jaime

Of course I find this recipe just after GS cookie “season”, is there another cookie along these lines that you know of that would work? I really want to make these!!

  6. Penny Haggerty

Please help what is a stick of butter in cups. Can you suggest a different kind of cookie? Canadian and we only have 1 type of girl guide cookie and it is not tagalongs.

These were a huge hit with a big gang of teachers last night. We went to our friends house who always makes magic out of flour, butter and sugar so I was hoping to wow everyone with my own version of these bars. Since it is no longer Girl Scout Cookie season I made a few adjustments. I used the Speculoos since we can get that easily here in Belgium, then I cut up 8 regular size Resse cups to use instead of the cookies. They were perfect and everyone asked “is there Speculoos in these?”. It gave them a smoother flavor and the left over few were perfect with coffee this morning. I will be watching for more wonderful receipes to go along with my rocking K&A fonts.

Loved this recipe! My daughter, age 16, and I made it. We didn’t have any tagalong cookies … so instead chopped up Reese’s PB cups and put them on top instead. Delish!! Shared some with a friend who rated them a ‘Double Yum’! Thanks for this recipe and your blog.

I made these as a snack for my daughter’s girl scout meeting and they were a huge hit. Everybody that has tried them since then has absolutely loved them. One of the girls at work was sick and said these were the only things she could eat because they tasted sooo good!
    GREAT RECIPE

  14. Julie

Love your site and all your delicious goodies! Just wondering–if you made these the day before, is there any way that they’d be as good the following day? (Can you tell I’m a new baker??)

  15. Taylor

I redeemed myself tonight! I made these two weeks ago with a butter cake mix (all I had on hand), and they were way too gooey even after like 40 minutes in the oven. Thankfully, I had a bunch of teenagers over from church, and they gobbled them up anyway.

I made a second batch today for a church yard sale using a yellow cake mix (as called for) and milk chocolate chips (to complement the milk chocolate of the Tagalongs), and they turned out perfect!

Thank you for the delicious recipe!

  16. beth

I was impressed with all the delicious looking food, but the fact you own boston terriers really sells it :) love the breed!!!!!! and yours are precious!!!!

  17. Kay

    Kevin and Amanda,
A new follower here. I cook for my church and will be making this for dessert tomorrow night! Just bought 10 boxes of Tagalongs to multiply this recipe x10! :)

  18. Karen

I made this recipe last week for the ladies at work and they all loved it! However I changed it slightly because I didn’t have any girl guide tagalong cookies. I used white cake mix and mini reece peanut butter cups….SO GOOD!!!!

  19. CC

Did anyone try to make this and the cake mix rose above the topping of the tagalongs? We still enjoyed it, but we are trying to figure out the mystery!

  20. TidyMom

oh Amanda I HAVE to make these for my family! they love tagalongs so much we even named one of our dogs after them! lol……..we call him Tag for short

  21. Brianne @ Cupcakes & Kale Chips

Tagalongs are my stepfather’s favorite. I may have to make these for me, I mean, umm, him!

  22. Liz (Little Bitty Bakes)

Just read Jenny’s Thin Mints recipe, and now yours — gosh, they both look great! I think these would be great with a chocolate cake mix, too!

  23. Jacqui

These look amazing!!! Must make asap.

You could also substitute the Tagalongs for Keebler Peanut Butter filled cookies – they remind me so much of Tagalongs!

  24. Russell at Chasing Delicious

How do you keep coming up with all these scrumptious treats?! I will take a dozen. Shall I email you my address? ; )

  25. Kristina Vanni

hi Amanda! your blog is so beautiful. all of the pictures! i’m blown away. these cake bars look wonderful (same with Jenny’s!). i love how easy they are using the cake mix, too. i love short cuts :)

  28. Cassie

It happens that I have an unopened box of these in my freezer. I now feel the need to rip them open and bake this ASAP!

    1. Amanda

Love Samoas! For Samoas I would replace the peanut butter with caramel — you could use caramel ice cream topping or make your own caramel following the directions on the back of a Kraft caramel bits package. You could also add a layer of toasted coconut on top of the chocolate chip layer! The directions for toasting the coconut should be on the back of the bag, found near the chocolate chips in the grocery store. Then just top with Samoas instead of Tagalongs. SO YUMMY!! You must tell me how it turns out if you try it :)

  29. Erin

Unfortunately I have been unable to locate any Girlscouts selling cookies this year (sadness!) but I am on a mission so that I can make these! If nothing else, I can always make them from scratch – desperation.

    1. K. Francis

      Dear Erin

I will be so grateful to u if u would please send me this receipe where u can make them from scratch as it is so difficult to get the ingredients thats used in this receipe as they have different names to the one we use in South Africa.
I need to know these names of the ingredients that we can use in S.A.

      Kind regards

      Kogie

  30. Anne

Tagalongs are my favorite! (I love that you, too, call them Tagalongs. That’s what they were when I was in GS and then they had to go and change the name. I also still call the other peanut butter ones Do-Si-Dos)
Thanks for sharing this yummy looking dessert. Two wonderful things – Tagalongs and cake! :)

  31. Natalie @ Cooking for My Kids

Oh my yumminess. You are right. You cannot go wrong with that combination of flavors. These look amazing!

  32. Suzanne Shepherd

Years ago I used to buy a cookie that was just like Tagalongs. The brand was Salerno, if I recall. They would be perfect for this recipe and oh, so available all year!

  33. Cookbook Queen
