This Strawberry Parfait is a healthy and delicious breakfast, snack or dessert recipe that couldn’t be easier to make! Fresh strawberries, yogurt and granola – that’s it!

Since I can’t eat cupcakes all the time (I tend to save that for when I’m on vacation!) I like to keep something around the house that I can have anytime, without feeling guilty, but will still satisfy my intense sweet tooth.

fruit and yogurt parfait-01

Enter this yogurt. Vanilla Dannon Light & Fit. I initially picked it up because it only has 80 calories. But I completely fell in love with it. It tastes like ice cream. Or that sweet fruit dip. The vanilla flavor is wonderful!

Enter granola. I love granola. I love granola bars. I love granola cereal. I love granola in any form. It gives me that lightly sweet, baked goods quality I want.  When I attended the Dole summit, I learned the recommended serving size for granola is 1/4 a cup. I tend to stick to that, and it’s plenty for me.

fruit and yogurt parfait-04

And this is what I do with it. Now I realize this looks nothing like a perfectly layered parfait here. But I tried my best. Sweet, bursting with flavor strawberries. Sweet, creamy, vanilla yogurt. Crunchy, lightly sweetened granola. Are you noticing a pattern?

Sweet.
Guilt-free.
Filling.
Satisfying.

I eat this for dessert. I eat it for an afternoon snack. I even eat it for lunch. It’s definitely filling enough!

You can get these fruit and yogurt parfaits at Starbucks, Panera Bread, and I think they even have them at McDonald’s, although I haven’t had one. I like to keep a list of the places that have these in case I’m traveling and want a light meal.

Have a great weekend!

    Hi Amanda,

i was wondering what lens / camera settings you used for this photo. I tried to take a similar picture with my 50mm but since i dont get that much lighting, i had to turn on my fluorcent lighting…it does not look as good as your photo. Do you have any tips??

    thanks!

I just discovered your blog and have enjoyed reading your posts. Your photos are amazing! I love parfaits as well, particularly for breakfast, and add banana, blueberries to the strawberries. I also love vanilla yogurt with blackberries.

  3. Stacy

I was just introduced to these recently, and like so many other people…FELL IN LOVE! Its gotten to a point I think my boyfriend is getting jealous :p I have to agree with some of the other posts, greek yogurt is defiantly the way to go. So many other nutrients in there for you, lots of protein. :) I started eating these for lunch every day…and lost 8lbs in a WEEK! By just making this small change at lunch and switching to water. Haven’t even had time to exercise, just 2 little changes. Just thought I’d let you know ladies :) Enjoy!

Oh that looks Yummy Amanda! How do you keep your figure with all this yummy food???

For your Australian blog watchers – Danone (as it is spelt here) is being manufactured here in Australia so look for it in your local Supermarkets. Our company is in a Joint Venture with Danone, altho I have been involved in an aspect of the project, no free taste tests have come my way :-(

I have been giving Dannon Light & Fit to my kids and hubby for a while, but recently learned of the risks of the ingredient aspartame. I love the low calorie count, but does the chemical aspartame make anyone else nervous?

  6. Catherine R.

I’m from Washington and I don’t even see that kind of granola(/cereal)! Haha, where did you get it? I’m dying for some good granola!

  7. Wendy

I think I will try this recipe. I am not a yogurt fan, but I will use the Silk Soy yogurt and try it. Sounds great. I am a HUGE Cascadian Farms fan!

I just have to say I love your pictures of Miley & Howie. I have a Boston too named George. I just love him. Boston’s are so cute, mine is huge weighing in at 40 pounds, and he was the runt of the litter. Like yours mine is a stinker too, with a definite mind of his own. Thanks for sharing your pictures I love looking at them. :)

  9. Mike

That’s OUR favorite yogurt too! We just tried the toasted coconut flavor too. Yum. But I still like the vanilla version the best.

Sometimes I add big tablespoon-full of sugar-free strawberry jam to the yogurt for some extra (guilt-free) flavor.

This is my afternoon snack at work. Usually with half of a diced apple and half a container of yogurt. It tastes like a sundae to me! I love Light and Fit. Especially the vanilla. I put it in my fiance’s lunch one day and he commented how good the “new” yogurt was. When did they start putting that in the Costco package? I had to fess up and tell him that I was taking all the vanilla and giving him the blueberry and strawberry. : P We share now. Strawberry yogurt and apples are awesome with granola! I make my own granola. LOVE this recipe: http://www.davidlebovitz.com/2009/10/granola-recipe/. I add in flax seeds, raw, shelled pumpkin seeds, pecans, walnuts and just about anything that will give a good crunch. I just adjust the wet ingriedients accordingly.

Those are some awesome pics! What is the background you are using? I love how whatever the glasses are sitting on just fades right into the background. Please share your secret! PS: I love the new feature where we can click on the photo for more info. (but no background info is given, lol)

YUM! My mouth is watering now, thanks! Chick fil A’s yogurt parfaits are my favorite. Sooooooo good. Look forward to trying out this one at home though. Can’t wait!!

  13. Jenn S.

Oooo…that looks pretty perfect to me. I am in love with a similar snack, but instead of granola we use almonds. Oh.my. gosh. It really does a great job of satisfying that sweet tooth.

  14. Melanie

Hi Amanda! That parfait looks PERFECT! So yummy!!
I enjoy your blogs. For the last 4 days, I have been trying to work on my blog and I haven’t had much luck. I’ve read your tutorials over and over again and I honestly don’t know what I’m doing wrong! I can’t wait to sit down and be able to blog instead of trying to build my blog!!! I am a stay at home mom and army wife! I have 3 little ones under the age of 4 and I have a lot of blogging to do. I am also trying to start my “tutu totes” business. I have become pretty popular around my daughter’s ballet school but I don’t have a website to refer people to for orders, etc. I really need your help!! Please send me your email. I will explain in better detail what my problem areas are!! Thanks so much!!

  15. daneilia

yum! this is stuff we already eat in our house and its awesome. i definitely have to stick to this kind of eating habit because i run a lot.

  16. Adriana

Hi! I love your work and your blog. This is my first comment because I could not resist to this dessert :)) I cant’ wait to try it, and more important: to get a mug like that. Also I like to read everything from where u travel, the deserts u try, the food, the hotels…It’s like, I wish this screen could let me taste or at least smell the food :)))
And alsoooo the pictures :D . No words for that !
Good day, and give a big hug to Miley and Howey !

I am a “regular” fan and enjoy your blog very much. I am a 65 year old grandmother and have suggested your blog to my granddaughters, one is married and another in college, another in high school and another little missy in Jr. High. We all have a lot of fun and I find your blog very refreshing and it made me feel so important that I was the one to discover something so COOL!!!

You don’t have to tell me twice.Yogurt-Good+Strawberries-Good+Honey Nut Granola-Good.How could this be a bad thing?I’ll try it!Thanks.

  19. Aimee

This is one of my favorite snacks, too! But I have never tried it with Cascadian Farms granola, so I picked some up at the store awhile ago and I love it!!! I would love it if you posted more ideas for healthy meals/snacks. :)

  20. Janette Childs

Crazy enough, I picked up those EXACT things to eat for breakfast this week. Glad someone else is addicted to it to, it is super yummy!

  21. Sally

I love this too! I don’t know if I can find your brand of granola, but the recipe is a winner! :) And your photos are to die for!!

  22. BECKY

Yum…I love the ones from McDonald’s but will have to try this at home since gas is getting so expensive. Thanks. Hugs, Becky

  23. Tracy

It’s like you climbed into my pantry! I LOVE the vanilla light & fit with Cascadian Farm granola; it’s one of my favorite breakfasts ever. I can’t wait to add in strawberries!!

  24. Kimberly

This is one of my favorite go-tos also..I eat parfaits often for breakfast! I love me some Cascadian Farms Oats & Honey.I like to make it with mixed berries or strawberries and since we like to eat Greek yogurt, I use Chobani plain yogurt. Delish!

    1. Amanda

Thanks Sarah! I’m not sure! I received two of these mugs as a gift, but all they have on the bottom is the number 17??

  25. chinamommy

just watch out for the SUGAR in the McD’s & the yogurt…yikes! I have my hubbie on the lose the belly fat diet (jorge cruise) and once he (jorge) starts pointing out how much sugar is in stuff… Ok, NOT to rain on your beautiful parade though, it looks DELISH!!!
    xoxo

  26. Amy

It’s amazing how much more appetizing something healthy can look if you put it in a simple, clear mug. Looks delicious and refreshing!

  27. Ashley

mcdonald’s does have these, and i love them! i have never even thought about making them myself though, such a good idea!

  28. Holly L.

I am sitting at the computer looking through my emails when I happen to get to your blog to find that I am eating what looks to be the identical picture you posted.
This is also a favorite of mine! Simple, yet sooo delicious.

  29. Kristin Murdock

I love how the yogurt is spilling over the cup in your photo! Looks great, Amanda.

I think someone may have already mentioned this but Chick-fil-A has fruit and yogurt parfaits that come with a side of granola, and since Chick-fil-A is the greatest thing since sliced bread, I like to promote it anytime I can. :)

  30. Rebecca

I love the Cascadian Organic Granola, too. I especially like it because it’s from my home state of Washington, but I can get it at the commissary where we are posted in Germany. I tend to make my parfaits with blueberries, but yours looks fantastic, too.

    Enjoy!

  31. Janie Hyde

I serve this parfait up in glass parfait glasses and my kids think it is a very fancy dessert or brunch treat. I always keep frozen berries on hand in case we don’t have fresh ones. I will defrost them in the microwave and we are on our way to parfait heaven!

  32. Sweet Bella Roos

This would also be a great snack/breakfast/anytime treat for the kiddos! My daughter LOVES fruit and yogurt, and I think I could sneak some fun crunchy granola in there for her too

  33. Urban Wife

Cascadian Farm is by far, my favorite granola! I like using Greek Yogurt (Chobani) when I have a fruit parfait. Have a great weekend! :)

  34. JoyceB

Lite and Fit has long been one of my “staples”. Glad to see yet another way to make something delicious with it; thank you, Amanda.

    Wonderful pictures, as always.

  35. Christy

I love this idea and love the suggestions of others to use greek yogurt. I especially like Jenna’s suggestion of using Fiber One as I am trying to add more fiber to my diet too. I will have to whip this up for my AM snack this morning. Lovely pictures too by the way. I keep trying to get pics like this but living in the Northwest and in a West Facing apartment, we get NO natural light in our house. Any suggestions on taking pics without flash with that problem?

  36. Jessica

I also make these quite a bit. :) The Panera (in my market St. Louis Bread Co.) they have I think the best of all “fast food” parfaits. I also get the McD one and it is good too. I’ve never had the Starbucks version, but I’m sure it’s tasty.

I am so glad to hear that you listed this as a lunch because I have often times had the St.L Bread Co Strawberry for Parfait. It’s plenty and a very well balanced meal.

    Thanks for sharing!!!

  37. Rachael

Granola is really high in carbs so we even subsititute the granola for Uncle Sam’s Cereal (found in the cereal aisle). They even have low carb yogurt if you look for it. These changes are great for diabetics :)

  38. Rosemary Hayes

Chick-Fil-A has a Granola Parfait too and it’s really delish.

Where do you buy your granola? That looks like maybe a Target find. Is it in the cereal section or the healthy snack foods section?

    1. Regina

I found the granola in the cereal isle of Wal-Mart. This yogurt is by far my favorite! Thanks for sharing!

  39. Megan

I actually eat the same thing for lunch a lot!!! It’s delicious! :) I get either Greek or plain regular yogurt (I don’t do artificial sugars at all, so I stay away from the “light” types of yogurt). You should try Greek yogurt. The health benefits are a lot better than traditional yogurt. Many of them are sweetened with honey, which is better for you than sugar or artificial sugars.

  40. Robin S

Careful getting that at restaurants, though! Panera’s version of it has a whopping 310 calories, 12g fat and 41g carbs. That’s more than a BK Whopper Jr.!

    1. Amanda

True, and I appreciate how Panera prints the nutritional information and calorie count right on the cup. But keep in mind that 310 calories is a perfectly acceptable amount of calories for a lunch, plus it’s not loaded with fat and grease like a burger :)

  41. Brandy

I love making yogurt granola parfaits! Just an fyi, we found our favorite granola at Earth Fare in the fill your own bag section. It’s the pumpkin seed granola (I think) and the # is 15919. It is so yummy (better than Cascadia in my opinion) and only 140 calories for 1/2 cup.

  42. Kerry LeWarne

    Hey Amanda,
I love to see some ideas for healthy eating! I’m struggling coming up with light meals – this one is perfect. If you have any other ideas..keep them coming. Absolutely love your site!

  43. jana b

I just found your website through PW. :)
I love your photos, recipes, ideas, fonts, layout of your website, scarf video, etc. I am a graphic designer and already have enjoyed a couple of your fonts. And I really want to make your “frame earring holder”! THANK YOU!
BTW…..Dannon Vanilla Light & Fit is the best. yogurt. ever. seriously.

  44. Shannon

Ohhh…so, SO GOOD! I think I’ll be adding these things to my grocery list! I have an intense sweet tooth too, and that can get a little dangerous. Ha!

The McD parfait is super good, you should try it. And I think it’s only $1, which makes it even better! :)

  45. Jenna

OH my. This looks SO good right now. I’m in my third trimester with my third baby and my appetite has been picking up like crazy. This looks like a GREAT way to satisfy it.

I used to make something like this, except instead of the cascade farms I used the fiber one go lean crunch, it had less calories and more fiber. :)

  46. Jill

That yogurt is my absolute favorite!! I eat it EVERY single day! Have you tried the “coconut vanilla” flavor? If you like coconut cream pie, you have to try it. It’s delish!
I add Bran Buds to my yogurt for a nice little crunch, but granola is always a treat!

  47. Carrie Gamber

They do have the yogurt parfaits at McDonald’s and they are DELISH!!! The other thing I’M in LOVE with!!! McDonald’s Fruit and Maple Oatmeal. It is AWESOME! I can’t make it at home the way they do! I swear they grind the oats a bit to make them smaller because it’s sooo creamy! and only 290 calories with brown sugar or 260 without! I buy some and take them home and keep them in my fridge! It’s like a party in my mouth!

  48. Ali b.

The chick-fil-a ones are super yumm-O. Thanks for reminding me of this healthy snack – my sweet tooth has been in overdrive lately so this should be a good alternative!

  49. Tracey C

I love the ones at McDonalds but will try these items to make my own. Have you tried the Nature Valley granola thin squares? They are great alsl but they have chocolate on one side. . Chick-fil-a has a yogurt parfait too. Yummy.

  50. Irene

Definitively delicious AND guilt-free! Thanks for the inspiration:-)
I also liked the blog retrospective. I do like the new lighter feel. It really depends on our moods and needs, and even blog fashion!

  51. Stephanie

LOVE THIS! McDonald’s does have the fruit and yogurt parfait, and it is AMAZING! I’m addicted. I try to recreate it, but mine’s just not as good ; )

  52. Jessica @ How Sweet

This is one of my favorite snacks too. I also love fruit with yogurt and a crumbled warm muffin. It tastes like cake!

  53. Averie (LoveVeggiesAndYoga)

The parfait pics are beautiful, Amanda!

I used to LIVE off granola, yogurt, and fruit when I was pregnant. Like, I think i ate my weight in it and I have kinda forgotten about this combo…thanks for the reminder to get back into that groove!

  54. Liz (Little Bitty Bakes)

Yum, I love yogurt parfaits! They’re actually one of my favorite lunches. I like to use Greek yogurt if I can, to get some extra protein.

  55. Vanessa

I have a hyperactive sweet tooth and am currently on a diet so no cupcakes can be had. Parfaits are the only way I can stick to my diet without severe cravings for sweets. I will have to give that yogurt and granola a go. Wonderful post!! :)
