Nutella Swirl Blondies Recipe

Hi. My name is Amanda. And I am totally addicted to Blondies.

Buttery and brown sugary, soft and chewy, rich and delicious- they’re squares of pure heaven. How can you go wrong with a combination like that? They’re super easy to make and you can totally customize them with your favorite drop-ins and add-ins. Blondies are definitely in my Top 5, all-time favorite desserts.

Nutella Swirl Blondies Recipe

Now, I usually make Blondies just plain- I am in love with this simple, original Blondie recipe- I want to marry it. But today I decided to add in a little extra chocolatety and hazelnutty goodness- yes, I am talking about those creamy, delightful swirls of Nutella. *swoon*

Here’s how I did it- along with some other suggestions of how you can customize these Blondies to make them totally your own! What would *you* add in to these Blond Bombshell Beauties?? :)

Description

These homemade Blondies are perfectly buttery, warm and delicious. They taste amazing with swirls of Nutella and without! You can add any of your favorite ingredients into this recipe and it’ll come out wonderful.

Scale

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups butter
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Nutella (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease an 8×8″ baking dish. (Line with foil, wax or parchment paper if desired. Grease the lining too.)
  2. Melt the butter in a medium, heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat; add both sugars and whisk until combined and sugar is melted, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Meanwhile, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl.
  4. Next, in a large bowl, whisk together the eggs and vanilla extract until combined. Slowly drizzle in the butter and sugar while whisking constantly. Then add the flour and whisk until just incorporated.
  5. Now, at this point you could fold in your favorite add-ins: chocolate chips, milk chocolate chunks, nuts, etc. Me? I like mine just plain, baby.

To make Nutella Swirl Blondies

  1. Pour the batter into the prepared dish, then drop spoonfuls of Nutella over the surface. (I did probably 9-10 spoonfuls) Swirl the batter in the pan making “S” shapes with a butter knife.

Other optional variations

  1. You could swirl in peanut butter or caramel. Or you could make a batch of cookie dough (my favorite would be peanut butter cookie dough or double chocolate chip cookie dough) and press chunks of cookie dough down into the batter. The options are limitless! :)
  2. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top cracks slightly and is firm to the touch and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist pieces clinging to it. Remove to a wire rack and let cool completely. Or until you can’t stand it any more and have to dig in!

I love these blondies and have been making this recipe for years, but the recipe needs to be fixed, it’s supposed to be 1 1/2 STICKS of butter not CUPS.

OMG, I have just made this recipe! These are so good! I doubled the recipe because I made them for a potluck. The only ingredient I didn’t double were the eggs, I used 3 versus 4 because I like them gooey :) the only thing I wish I’d done differently which is completely my fault is to let the butter / sugar mixture cool longer before adding my chocolate chips.., still, they are great. Thanks Amanda….., I also have your pulled pork recipe in the oven now for 13 hours and it looks great!

I’ve made these a few times and feel the blondies recipe is too greasy. I went back to my old blondies recipe that uses 1 stick of butter for the same size pan. But thank you for the nutella swirl idea. I use it atop brownies too.

I love your blog and your recipes. Thank you for sharing them. :) I came across this and it made me think of the Snickerdoodle Blondies I tried recently. I think you would definitely like them if you like blondies. :-D (there are a ton of recipes, you can just do a google search and the top ones will be good enough). Keep up the great work!

I made this today for a small family get together, I made the Nutella-swirled ones. They were Ahh-maaa-ziing!! The kids couldn’t quit eating them!

Made these this morning for our church bake sale. Cut them and put them in cute decorated sandwich bags. My daughter and I split only one to taste. Simply yummy. Now my daughter is mad that all are packaged for the bake sale and none set aside for home. I will make another batch after church and share with the family. Thanks for sharing this recipe. It’s a keeper for me. TC

I made these last night with whole wheat flour and the addition of walnuts. They were great! I served them for company with a huge scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Everyone loved them!

I made this for my husband because its one of our fave things to eat together and he is currently overseas….so this was a must to make for his birthday. Well & of course he loved it! But I made it again today for our church tomorrow and I’m sure it’ll be a hit again…thank you for sharing :)

Wow these picture look amazing and honestly made me want to go out immediately and purchase the ingredients to make these blondies! I love that you can make them a variety of different ways and customize them to your own preferences. I work with Better Recipes so I am always looking at recipes and I especially enjoy Dessert Recipes that can be altered to fit the particular of a party, for instance. Can’t wait to make these with walnut and chocolate chunks!

I made these for a family dinner at my sister’s house, they were so good that I when I went home, I made them again for my friends! So baked these twice in one day! Just delicious!

Oh yeah. In answer to a previous reviewer’s question, I substituted whole wheat for some of the flour (in a ratio of 3 A/P to 1 WW, I think) and it worked out fine. You can usually get away with this ratio w/t affecting texture…or so I’m told. Thought I’d overcooked them bcz I forgot to set timer and the dried spagetti came out very clean & dry, but they were crispy on top & sides while still moist inside. Perfect, I’d say. ;D Thanks again!

Made these for my 4-yr-old granddaughter today–our first blondies. We loved them! No Nutella but tried some other variations in same pan, by pouring a layer, then planting goodies, then covering with remaining dough. Her fav was choc chips (just made me wish for brownies). My favs were 1) dried sour cherries & cranberries (liked so much, next time I’ll just stir into the dough); and 2) slightly defrosted strawberries, which I planted down into the dough, one per slice. I found the sour and tang of these fruits really went well with these sweet treats, whereas the fresh rasp & blackberries just got lost in it. Forgot to try PB this time around, but my next experiment will probably be to brown the butter. Mmmm! Thanks, Amanda, for this delicious recipe! Really enjoy your site, which I discovered only recently.

I’ve done this one twice now and it’s a hit! I just made them plain at hubby’s request and he LOVES them. So do my in-laws and my parents. Next time I’ll add nutella I think… But first we must finish the double recipe I just made…

  15. Angie

YUM. I am going to the store RIGHT NOW! Thank you for sharing this!! Brownies are amazing. but throw in Nutella, and it’s a whole new ball game!

  16. Kayla

Hey Amanda! Looks like a great recipe, but before I make it….

I only have light brown sugar, not dark brown. Will it matter if I just use 1 1/2 cups of the light brown sugar?

    -Thanks!

  17. Cynthia McIntyre

I have never had a blondie but your recipe looks very easy. I will definately make them! Thanks for sharing the recipe.

My mom made this recipe all the time…but we always sprinkle chocolate chips on top. And, you don’t even have to mix the other ingredients in another bowl before adding. Just melt your butter, add your eggs, then put in your flour and dry ingredients. Mix all really well, pour in the pan and sprinkle with chocolate chips (or my fav – a mixture of choc. chips and white chips with walnuts). Yum! I absolutely love your website and my all time favorite recipe is the bacon cheesburger chicken!!! Love it! How about a good apple crisp recipe or cherry crisp?

Ok, where have I been? I’ve known about the “font” side of your blog but never the cooking side. I’m hooked! I found out about you through a commenter on my giveaway who said her favorite recipes are from here. Of course I had to check it out. Can’t wait to look around!

Thank you for wonderful recipe. I want to try the recipe but would like to know is it ok to substitute all purpose flour with whole wheat flour or mixture of all purpose and whole wheat?

  21. Rad

Your recipe worked very well for me, everything was perfect. I added walnuts because I was a bit worried that without any add-ons it might taste bland. But I need’nt have. It tasted heavenly and I was hooked as was my husband.

Could I pls request for a brownie recipe?

  22. cheryl

hey this recipe looks SO good! but i was wondering, how do you measure the ingredients? as in like, how many grams is 1 1/2 sticks of butter equal to, how many grams is 1 1/2 cups of flour equal to? etc. etc. love the website btw! :)

  23. Talita

Wow! This is delicious!! I already tried a blondie but I didn’t like. I’ll give another chance for it. This recipe looks really yummy!
